“When your whole world is shaken from all the risks we have taken, dance with me. Dance with me into the colors of dusk.” ~ Ben Harper.I’ve served my country, a man, and a cause. I’ve given my whole being while at the same time finding its true meaning. There was no way for me to know that the day I met the men who were to become my best friends they would introduce me to the love of my life. … my life.
Fiery, red hair and hypnotizing, emerald eyes caught my attention.
Creamy soft skin, a stark contrast to mine, seduced my body.
Strength, devotion, and determination stole my heart.
I am Reid Murray and I’ll kill without regret to once again dance in the dusk with my wife. This war has only begun. I won’t rest until it’s done.
From New York Times bestselling author comes a brand-new dark romance, DUSK, set in the dangerous world of the Chicago underground. It’s time to get caught up in this new and intriguing saga, Dangerous Web.
DUSK is book one of the DANGEROUS WEB trilogy that continues in DARK and concludes in DAWN.
Have you been Aleatha’d?

4.25 stars—DUSK is the first instalment in Aleatha Romig’s contemporary, adult DANGEROUS WEB romantic suspense trilogy set in the author’s Sparrow Webs world. This is Reid Murray and Lorna Pierce-Murray’s continuing story. DUSK can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous series is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the other series as the story line premise references things that have happened in the author trilogies.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the storyline premise, there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers.
SOME BACKGROUND: Close to twenty years earlier, Sterling Sparrow, Mason Pierce, Reid Murray, and Patrick Kelly served together in the US military, and have been one another’s best friend ever since. Upon university graduation, Sterling Sparrow took control of Chicago’s underground from his father Allister, and in the ensuing years, Sterling would gather his friends, in an effort to rid the world of human traffickers- in doing so he would become the sole ruler of Chicago’s underworld. These are their stories.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Lorna and Reid) using two timelines (present day and nine years in the past) DUSK follows in the aftermath of the abduction of Reid’s wife Lorna, and Sparrow’s wife Araneae. As Reid Murray and Lorna’s brother Mason Pierce struggle to make sense of the security breach at Sparrow’s Montana ranch, the possibilities and probabilities are endless as to the who, how and why of the women’s abduction. Meanwhile, Lorna and Araneae find themselves locked in a cell, facing a stranger who demands information that reveals the women are not the intended victims. Separated from one another, battered and bruised, Lorna and Araneae struggle with what happened, and the loss of memories during the time of their imprisonment.
DUSK is an emotional and intriguing story of secrets, lies, power and control. Aleatha Romig pulls the reader into a heart pounding and captivating tale of betrayal and vengeance wherein haunting dreams are the reality of life. DUSK ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.
Man o man…. I’ve waited for Reid… and waited and waited lol but it was soooooo worth the wait! The Sparrow world has got to be one of my favorites but Reid and Lorna take the cake. They’re so electric and so perfect I love it! Of course our queen, Aleatha, left us biting our nails but I’m ready!
Book 1 in a new trilogy from Aleatha, this is Lorna and Reid’s story!
This is easily read as a standalone for these two characters, but if you have read any of the other trilogies you will know that Lorna and Reid are married and totally in love. Reid is one of Sparrow’s main men, Lorna is the sister of Mason and in the Tower she acts as the housekeeper…. cooking, cleaning, looking after everyone.
This book is told in flashbacks where we learn the background story to Lorna and Reid’s relationship, how they hid it from everyone until they were found out. Lorna was from a poor family on the wrong side of the tracks and Mason brought her to the Tower for protection, but Sparrow was not too happy about it and thought she was a distraction.
Fast forward to the present and the story starts on a ranch with a kidnapping that has the men scrabbling around trying to find out just who had the smarts and the know how to take the women from them.
It’s a good suspenseful read, it was very easy to see Lorna and Reid’s connection and their love for one another and how she eventually learned to fit into the Sparrow enterprise. There are plenty of plot twists to keep you on your toes and some surprises towards the end that I didn’t see coming. Looking forward to reading the rest of this series.
This book captures your attention from the beginning. I think Reid and Lorna are my new favorite couple.
As usual from Aleatha, another great page-turner. A definite read.
My Rating:
Type: Trilogy Book 1
Genre: Contemporary Fiction Romance, Romantic Thriller, suspense
Primary Characters: Reid & Lorna
Secondary characters: Sterling Sparrow, Mason, Patrick, Araneae, Madeline and Laure
Narration: Dual POV
I have always been a fan of Aleatha’s Dark read series. This series is set in Sparrow World. I just couldn’t resist starting this sooner. The moment I started, I finished this in one go. This book is like her usual other books, captivating and intoxicating. You need not have to read other books in the series to start this series.
Sparrow is a Chicago kingpin. He rules that along with his 3 other friends. One of them is Reid Murphy. If you have read her other books in this world, you would have already met him and know that he is the man behind keys. He good at computers and can unearth all secrets.
Story toggles between past and present. This gives an enough backstory and background for the readers who are reading this series for first time. Now, with Lorna being kidnapped Reid is ready to take any steps to get her back. But the danger looming around them is not a passing simple cloud.
Best part of story is seeing the entire gang coming together to solve this mystery. Totally loved everyone’s involvement in this. All other couples were adorable. With a wonderful twist in the end, Author has left us wanting for more.
Only downside is some parts of book is repetitive for seasoned lovers of this series. Narration is clear like her other books. Plot moved in fast pace. Secondary characters are the best part of the book.
Overall, if you are a fan of Aleatha’s thrillers, then this is for you. If you are a new bee to her books, then I suggest reading some of her other wonderful series. Enticing end, can’t wait to see what’s in store of Lorna and Reid.

I cannot get enough of this world that this author has created; just when you think every secret has been uncovered and this story has nowhere left to go … BOOM!! Aleatha Romig pulls another cracker of a plot that had me questioning who? What? Where? And why? This has it all … romance, suspense, mystery, killer plot , four hot guys that just love their woman with every fibre of their being !!
Whilst the previous three trilogies move forward with the hero meeting and falling in love with the heroine , this book is slightly different . Lorna and Reid are already married but we are taken back in time to when they first fell in love and got married. Whilst these two characters have a presence in the previous books they don’t really play a big part so it’s great to finally get to know them. We soon learn that they truly are the backbone of the sparrow outfit!
What a cliffhanger, I am left aghast at the clever penmanship of Ms Romig and the ability to hook her readers into the pages from the very beginning!! I have once again been Aleatha’d !
5 out of 5 stars
When Reid comes back to the world after his time in the army , he and the men that he calls his friends become the company with Sparrow in charge . He has killed before with out regret and the moment his wife is taken he and the Sparrow men are on the hunt to bring her and Sterling’s wife back . The war is just beginning and the men won’t rest until it is done .
Ok I kind of fan girl squealed when I found out that Reid and Lorna were getting their own story. These characters are amazing I love Lorna she is very strong and can hold her own but she has a sweetness to her also that make you fall in love with her . She can be sassy when she wants to be but when with Reid she is sweet and loving and kind of bossy . She can put the men of Sparrow in their place when are acting up . Reid well lets talk about Reid he is oh so alpha male , sexy and powerful in so many ways . He is protective of his family and friends and when someone is hurting he is hurting along with them especially his wife . I absolutely love these two . They are the characters you really want in your corner when push comes to shove . Also Sterling, Patrick and the rest of the Sparrows are back and helping out . Love all these men so much .
Ok Ok , I am going to say this once , this story is amazing the characters are well written and complex from the get go. I truly love this authors style of writing . How she can meld stories together and combine series to have a well rounded series is a finesse . I will say that I loved this story and Reid and Lorna are by far my favourite characters . The author takes us on one emotional rollercoaster ride . I couldn’t put this book down I got sucked in by the end of the first chapter . I found myself getting swept away in the story and was on the edge of my seat most of the time . So if you want a great book for you winter reading this is the book for you check it out you will not be disappointed .
Finally, we are getting Reid and Laurel’s story, and it is so perfect. We initially met Reid and Laurel in Secrets, the first book in the Sparrow’s Web series. We learn of the tight-knit group Alistair Sparrow has placed around himself, who are family and employees. This powerful quartet is Alistair Sparrow, head of the Chicago underworld, Patrick Kelly, his right-hand business brain, Mason a computer genius, and Laurel’s brother, and Reid Murraycomputer engineering genius. Mason and Reid are the yin and yang of technology for the Sparrow organization. Through the Sparrow’s web series of trilogies, we have gotten to know this dynamic group of people, all so different but so bound together through friendship and brotherhood. Reid and Laurel have been the constants through all these books, but now things are changing.
While you don’t need to have read any of the previous books, I like that I have read them. However, as I read Dusk, I had no problem following the story, and it was not overwhelming with backstory either. I really loved how Aletha gave us a more detailed backstory of how Reid and Laurel came together. In Dusk, Laurel and Alistair’s wife, Araneae, have been kidnapped from Mason’s super-secure ranch in Montana. The suspense drives the story as Reid and the guys try to figure out how to get them back. POVs change between present-day Reid, present-day Laurel, and the past as both reflect on their time together. Their love is deep, and they are desperate to get back to each other.
We discover some of the motivation driving the kidnapping, and the shadowy bad guy has not been revealed fully. However, we learn there are connections to the past, unsolved mysteries from the past, and a future drug that could significantly impact the medical world. This story is packed with on the edge of your seat suspense, fabulous romance, and a cast of characters you want to know more. Having read the Sparrow’s Web series, I know the books will only get better as we go further in. As of right now, I am anxiously awaiting the next in the trilogy, and yes, I have been Aletha’d.
Wooo-hoooo! Another action-packed romantic suspense from Aleatha!
Oh wow!! Dusk will grab your attention from the first page and hold you tightly til the last one. We all met Reid and Lorna in the previous Sparrow books. I always hoped Aleatha would write their story and I think this trilogy will be my new favorite. Twists and turns, the whole Sparrow family dynamics, they all love and protect each other even if they’re not blood relatives, they are family. Can’t wait to read the rest of the trilogy.
I have been dying for Reid and Lorna’s story from the beginning. I loved that throughout Dusk we were taken back in time nine years ago when no one knew about their relationship and seeing how things progressed through the past to end up where they are now.
I love Lorna. She was the first woman that was in the Tower with the rest of the Sparrows. She is strong, a fighter and also very caring and loving. Reid is protective, he’s an alpha and the love his has for Lorna is truly beautiful. The chemistry between these two is intense and has defied the odds. I absolutely love their relationship. Without Lorna he is going crazy and will do anything he can to get the woman he loves more than anything back.
Dusk is full of mystery, suspense, twists and turns. The moment you start reading you will be sucked in and transported into the Sparrow world and not be able to put the book down. A MUST READ and I can’t wait to see how Reid and Lorna’s story continues.
The Queen, The Goddess, The Master of Cliffhangers has done it again, I’M DYING HERE I NEED DARK NOW!!!
From the very beginning I wondered if we would ever get Reid and Lorna’s story because they have been a married couple since the first book in the Sparrow Webs Connection. In Secrets we knew that Reid and Lorna were married and Lorna was Mason’s sister we knew a couple of other things but not much at all so I am so happy that we have gotten their story.
We are starting off this trilogy with a bang and are left with a whopper of a cliffhanger! I absolutely loved the way I got sucked into the Sparrow World again, Lorna and Reid are great together and I really enjoyed the flashbacks to when they first began dating nine years prior.
Reid is the tech specialist for Sparrow Enterprises and his training will come in handy now as it has in the past but for Reid there is even more on the line this time.
I’ve had questions for several books now, questions I didn’t think would ever get answered, I’m still wondering if they will but I am holding out hope that at some point I will know everything there is to know about Sparrow and all the men and women that surround him. Can I throw out there that I hope it doesn’t happen in this trilogy just so we get more of the Sparrow Webs because I am going to be very sad when this is all over.
You can grab Danger’s First Kiss which is the prequel of this trilogy and is currently free so you can see how Reid and Lorna meet, it’s a great quick read. If you enjoy Romantic Suspense this is definitely the trilogy for you, in fact I would recommend all of the Sparrow Web Trilogy’s because they were all amazing. You do not have to read those in order to enjoy this one but I believe once you meet Sterling, Mason, and Patrick you are going to want to know their stories as well.
Happy Reading!!!
4.25-4.5 STARS
Alternating between past and present, “Dusk” tells the tale of Lorna and Reid’s love story, all while the Sparrow crew are thrust into yet another life and death rescue situation. Right from the get-go, I was drawn into this intriguing start to Aleatha Romig’s Dangerous Web series, where so many questions are begging to be answered. As with all of Aleatha’s books, “Dusk” is a heart-pounding page-turner that has left me desperately craving more!
Oh my F!
This book!
I just finish it in one sitting and my jaw drop with all the Twist!
Get ready for the intense ride Aleatha will give you with Dusk!
Usually every couple have their story focus on them with Sparrow along side in each series, right.
But Lorna and Reid’s story have the whole Sparrow come together from the beginning.
Start with a bang chapter one. Dusk end with a big F word at the end!
I wanna tell you so many things but I hate giving spoiler!
Just be prepare to leave adulting life out the door the second you start reading this book. Cause it’s that intense! And the way Aleatha lured you in the mystery… Gaaaah SO FREAKIN GOOD!
Ugh I don’t know if I can wait for the next book, it is too far away. I was so drawn into this book that I don’t want to move on, I need to know what is happening next! Ms Romig snared me nice and early, the depth of the mystery, the worry, the love for a family chosen, the surprises that keep you thinking long after reading.
Lorna and Reid have been our quiet safe haven in the previous books. But their love and connection has been strong. Lorna mothering the group of men, cleaning and feeding them, helping where possible as they each found their love. Friending and helping the women adjust to he world of Sparrow and all it entails.
Reid likes to be behind the scenes helping in everyway he can. Always the voice of reason, until your reason is missing and worry takes over. It was good to see him fall apart a little bit, from Mr. calm cool and collected. He is determined to find his wife and get her back.
I loved how Ms Romig uses flashbacks to help us understand the relationship and how it was built. Not only remembering the happier times but some of the sad times that helped form the ties as well. I am on my see waiting very impatiently for the next installment.
*** Advanced copy provided in exchange for an honest review.***
Opening a book by Aleatha Romig is similar to tearing the wrapping paper off THE present at Christmas. You know it is going to be perfect and you have known it was just for you. You’ve been excited to finally get it, and once you see it, you cannot put it down. Dusk is that kind of book and that kind of present, and it does not leave you wanting to share it under any circumstances.
And just like that present, as you play/delve more into the intricate depths, you are drawn more into what makes it absolutely amazing. With Dusk you get it all. Dark Web matters, intrigue brought on by old enemies, answers to questions you did not want to ask, and heat from battle and from the bedroom. Yep, this one has it all and it is only book one in the series.
But then I would expect nothing less from this author. Her ability to draw me in has been a given since my first read and she never fails to live up to her name. Have you been Aleatha’d is not just a phrase, it should be her title! Well done Aleatha Romig with this wonder of a story, and all the stars I can give…you got’ em lady!
Lorna Pierce, now Reid’s wife, is kidnapped with Sterling’s wife, Araneae. She is the one that keeps both of them sane and positive with regards to waiting for help. She is brave and logical in the face of danger.
Reid Murray is part of the Sparrow clan with a specialty in computers and surveillance. He worked for Sterling Sparrow to secure his “seat” at Sparrow Enterprises after Sterling’s father’s reign. The book mentions Reid and Lorna’s first meeting a few times in the book. Readers can read their first meeting at Danger’s First Kiss – which I highly encouraged, and it is a great read!
Firstly, I have been a big fan of Romig since I read her Web of Sin Trilogy, which hooked me to the Sparrow Web Series. In Dusk, Sterling took charge of the Sparrows clan but in the process exposes his life and anyone around him to more danger. Unfortunately, I should have also finished the other characters’ stories BEFORE diving into Dusk since I was a bit lost with learning about the rest of “his team” and their respective partners. There were a lot of new names and events to be matched. Good thing Romig did a few “flashbacks” in between the present, which enables me to focus on Reid and Lorna and the critical parts in the book.
Thus, I recommend reading the Sparrow Webs series to fully appreciate and ensure that the characters and their backstories do not slow you down. I stopped a bit to reflect and connect what happened to whom.
The story is told from Reid’s and Lorna’s POV with necessary flashbacks to hone in critical objectives to the plot. The story flow is the right balance of uncertainty from Lorna’s side and race to find a rescue plan from Reid’s side.
As I read along, I got into it…really got into it. I remember how much I love Romig’s style of catching readers without them knowing it. Before long, I was half-way through, coiled up in suspense and worry for everyone – Reid planning the rescue and Lorna trying her best to survive with the situation. It was a nerve-wracking experience, but one that ended with a curious ending.
I loved how this book showed the side of Lorna as a brave woman. She is a Sparrow now. She protects and defends them through all the trials and tortures was thrown her way in captivity. She looked fear in the eye and defended her friends and family to the evil that wanted nothing more than to harm them.
There is a more significant, unforeseen threat to the Sparrows from the past. It is from another team member’s history but with the rest of the team’s loved ones at their mercy. There were many twists and heart-shattering moments that I had such an emotional spiral with what happened further with Araneae and Lorna as they try to survive.
I am always on-edge with cliffhangers. Coming into this trilogy, I know this book will get me worked up. I understand that this makes the book a worthy read because Romig gave each character and situation their unique importance. I love and appreciate this even more since I could not connect to Books 4-6 of the series. I recall what Lorna shared with Araneae when she was on the verge of giving up. Lorna’s story gave relief to an all-intense moment for readers. The length provided a fantastic backdrop for the series, and I was more settled to continue with the trilogy.
In summary, I like the book – a lot! I could not put the book down and kept telling myself to finish one more chapter and then another. Romig’s visuals and characters are as colorful and adventurous as how I remembered them to be. She is a skillful storyteller of suspense and mystery with a hint of danger that kept me on-the-edge-of-my-seat on each page. Before I knew it – it was all over! The story was left me having to wait for the next installment.
“There was no way for me to know that the day I met the men who were to become my best friends they would introduce me to the love of my life.”
From the beginning to end, I wanted to be inside this book. The amazing words popping from the pages of this romance! This was my first read by this obviously talented author, and since this is a series, it won’t be my last. And, right after this review is posted, guaranteed, I’m checking out her other novels!
This story was …a definite page-turner… I can’t wait to read the next installment!
I received an advanced reader copy, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
This is the first book in the Dangerous Web Series. We are introduced to Reid and Lorna here. They both appear in the other series, in this series we dive deep into their lives.
This book switches between the present and the past giving some insight into their lives which added a great touch to the story.
This book was a serious page-turner and it was something I was expecting. You are sucked deep into their world and want to know every possible thing about them. Lorna and Reid are the oldest couple there, and Lorna was the first female to enter into the Sparrow world, and she took on the role of house manager very well making sure everyone is fed and that the house is in proper order.
I really loved Lorna’s character how even though knowing the consequences of being a part of the Sparrow world did not leave or run away once things get tough.
This book was just as good as the other books and there are still a lot of unanswered questions which I am waiting for eagerly to be answered.
A really great and enjoyable read with the ending leaving you with a lot of questions running in your head.
