Welcome to Callan.I might be Level 99, but I’m still a noob. That’s Zane’s permanent nickname for me and he doesn’t seem keen on changing anytime soon. Murry is his snarky self and Sam is a bright-eyed thief ready to take on the world. My team has gotten us this far and we have a mystery to solve, and a psycho Game Master to outrun. Maurice is on our tail and he’s followed us into the bowels of … followed us into the bowels of the Vampire Abode. When we run into not one, not two, but four Game Masters, we’re in for the fight of our lives.
Sacrifices will be made. Lives will be lost. And in the end, the universe code is at stake.
This is an adventure that I will win. This is a game that I will not lose.

I loved this story. The author did a great job with these characters. A story of a group who were trying to outrun their enemies. Full of snarky banter, epic battles with great creatures and of course some cunning villians. A story you won’t want to put down.
This was my first experience with Aurora Weiss’ work and it was fun. I enjoyed it quite a lot. There was a lot of action involved. There were times where I laughed out loud at the antics and snarky comments of the characters. I was intrigued by the machinations of the Game Masters. I recommend this story and I’m interested in the next book in the series. Travis Baldree’s narration was excellent. He provided different voices for the characters. His delivery and expressiveness added to the audiobook’s entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.
After reading Dungeon Worlds: A Reborn Online LitRPG Adventure , I definitely was left wanting more of this world, so here we are. And once again, the vivid descriptions are epic; I feel as though I’ve been dropped into Epoch myself and find myself marveling at its beauty.
This one’s exciting right away, and I do recommend reading it after having already read book 1 in the series for a clearer understanding on the world and return characters.
4 stars.
Note:
I read the Audiobook; the narrator sounds great, very pleasant voice and scene-appropriate emotions, and different voices for different characters. A fun listen, 4-star performance.
This is a did not finish from me. The first issue is partially my fault. I didn’t realize it was a sequel when I requested it as a review copy. Though it also wasn’t indicated in any way.
The second issue is the genre. This is the second (third? The other was a book 1, parts 1 and 2) LitRPG I’ve read. There are certain aspects of this genre I find utterly obnoxious. The biggest annoyance (in audiobook form) is the robotic voice reading off a bunch of stats and numbers. Those things never meant a thing to me even when I did play videogames. Trying to remember that nonsense while in the middle of a story just isn’t going to happen.
I wouldn’t call this a bad book by any stretch of the imagination. I enjoyed the characters, world-building. The character interactions were all excellent. It feels like a well fleshed out world. I just couldn’t follow along with the lack of context.
The narrator is all kinds of insufferable. First, he says o like it’s a number. That insufferable as all hell bit aside, he’s one of those people who puts way too much extra emphasis on wh sounds. Saying things like hhhhhhhwhen, hhhwheeled, hhhhhhwheze. People who talk like that are insufferable enough. But he’s not even consistent about it. He said while and where normally, which makes me wonder if he’s just being annoying by choice.
Had it not been for the insufferable narrator, I’d have given this a second listen with my modicum of context. That or had I at least the context of part one. Unfortunately, I don’t have any Audible credits and I already have a book on my wish list.
I think if you’re into literary RPGs, this will be right up your alley. At times it feels like a fantasy RPG and other times it feels like a narrated D&D campaign or something. It’s not bad, it’s just not my thing.
NOTE: This copy was provided to me free of charge as a digital review copy. The opinions stated in this review are mine and mine alone, I was not paid or requested to give this book a certain rating, suggestion, or approval.
Really enjoyed this one and the narration only added to it!
Amazing, beautiful scenes!
