An agent broken
MI6 agent Damon Knight prided himself on always being in control. His missions were executed with cold, calculating precision. His club, The Garden, was run with an equally ordered and detached decadence. But his perfect world was shattered by one bullet, fired from the gun of his former partner. That betrayal almost cost him his life and ruined his career. His handlers want him … handlers want him to retire, threatening to revoke his license to kill if he doesn’t drop his obsession with a shadowy organization called The Collective. To earn their trust, he has to prove himself on a unique assignment with an equally unusual partner.
A woman tempted
Penelope Cash has spent her whole life wanting more. More passion. More adventure. But duty has forced her to live a quiet life. Her only excitement is watching the agents of MI6 as they save England and the world. Despite her training, she’s only an analyst. The closest she is allowed to danger and intrigue is in her dreams, which are often filled with one Damon Knight. But everything changes when the woman assigned to pose as Damon’s submissive on his latest mission is incapacitated. Penny is suddenly faced with a decision. Stay in her safe little world or risk her life, and her heart, for Queen and country.
An enemy revealed
With the McKay-Taggart team at their side, Damon and Penny hunt an international terrorist across the great cities of Northern Europe. Playing the part of her Master, Damon begins to learn that under Penny’s mousy exterior is a passionate submissive, one who just might lay claim to his cold heart. But when Damon’s true enemy is brought out of the shadows, it might be Penny who pays the ultimate price.

In this story we get taken to England and learn more about Damon Knight. While he’s recovered from being shot by his friend and co-worker, he does have some physical limitations now. This is very difficult for him since he prides himself on his control. And when his next mission necessitates an undercover submissive, things only get more interesting. Penelope Cash isn’t trained as a submissive and she has a mind of her own and doesn’t just blindly obey Damon. After all, even if she hasn’t been in the field, she is a trained agent.
There was so much to love about this story – the back and forth between Damon and Penelope, the humor, backup support by some members of McKay-Taggart, the suspense, and the twists along the way.
Lexi Blake always delivers!
OMG, Damon and Penelope are such an AMAZING couple.. They kinda remind me of Charlotte and Ian… Penelope was just this little shy thing until Damon showed her that she could be so much more and all though Damon would probably never had admit it but he fell in love with Penelope the first night that he fucked her
I enjoy listening to this series. This is Damon and Penelope’s story. Once again, you have a couple where he says something and she hears something else. Then she says something, and he hears something different. Makes for a lot of angst, confusion, and apologies.
Damon and Penny were ok, but they didn’t do much for me. I didn’t get the sense of a real connection between them.
The Taggert McCay team is so much more entertaining. Ian and Char still top my list as the best couple. Simon, Jesse, Alex, and Jake are truly witty. Eve, Avery, Serena were not an active part of this book. We got to see Chelsea’s walls coming down just a bit. She wasn’t quite as obnoxious as she was in the previous book.
I could not decide if Penelope ever picked up on the fact that Bash was a crazy stalker and if he couldn’t have Damon, no one would; or, did she just think the mission was some type of competition Bash wanted to have with Damon? I underst old Penelope was concerned about Bash killing Damon, but she seemed to chalk it all up to the mission.
The narration was good. Once again we were treated to several different accents.
I honestly was hoping that Penny got another chance to run her new relationship into her relatives faces. Or, I wish we had gotten a little more story about Damon and Penelope after the mission was all said and done.o
There was plenty of action, suspense, some romance, and sexy times. There were a couple of situations I thought were not completely resolved, but maybe it was just me. Oh well, in to Simon and Chelsea’s book.
A straight-laced MI6 agent is paired with an inexperienced innocent to hunt a lethal killer and the organization he represents! Damon Knight loses his cool demeanor and finds the innocent Penny to be the woman he didn’t know he needed! The MacKay-Taggert crew assist when Penny is injured. They always add a dimension of fun, with a dose of get-er-done attitude!
This entire series is awesome. Read them all,
Broken and great
Another great book in this series. This is about a broken man afraid to be left again and a woman afraid to believe she can be loved.
No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
Good dialogues
The characters is developed in to realistic personalities that made me feel like I knew them
Beautiful love scenes and steamy scenes
Some suspense made it more nerve wrecking
Love this series, 5 stars
If you haven’t read the Masters and Mercenaries series, start right now. Lexi Blake is the queen of romantic suspense. All of her books are page turners, funny, sexy, and they have a great plot.
Love this whole series!!!!
Whenever I start a Masters and Mercenaries book I always smile because I know I am guaranteed a fast paced, action packed, intriguing, romance with edge of your seat moments and laugh out loud moments that keep me turning the page. This was love story set against an international threat of bio-terrorism that involved not only McKay-Taggart but SIS, CIA and the German secret service.
Damon Knight has lost everyone who ever mattered to him so when it came time that he needed a female operative as a partner he tried everything he could think of to keep Penelope Cash from taking the job. Penelope could not fathom that a man such as Damon would want anything to do with her. He was so far out of her league. It’s not all smooth sailing and ends up being incredibly dangerous but Penelope understands her man and Damon gets his woman.
This is Damon’s book and the setting is London based. Damon Knight is a MI6 agent and is recovering from a gunshot wound to his lung by his partner. He also owns a BDSM Club called The Garden. He needs a female partner to go undercover with him and chooses an interpreter named Penelope Cash. He has had an eye on her for a while but he does do relationships. Penelope has had a crush on Damon and is light to his dark. Damon calls in Ian and Charlotte Taggart and their crew to help him out and the fun begins. Of course Damon’s former partner shows up and he’s jealous of Penny. Lots of great spy stuff and action and steamy hot scenes.
‘Dungeon Royals,’ was an incredibly sexy and intriguing read. Damon and Penelope were brilliant together. And it was refreshing to see how easily words can be misinterpreted and cause all sorts of drama. I can’t wait to read more of our Aussie friend, Brody!
