Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, heir to a noble family tasked with ruling an inhospitable world where the only thing of value is the “spice” melange, a drug capable of extending life and enhancing consciousness. Coveted across the known universe, melange is a prize worth killing for….
When House Atreides is betrayed, the destruction of Paul’s family will set the boy on a journey toward a destiny greater than he could ever have imagined. And as he evolves into the mysterious man known as Muad’Dib, he will bring to fruition humankind’s most ancient and unattainable dream.
A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction.

The best sci-fi book that I have ever read. I also read the rest of he Dune series books and was always impressed.
No matter how many times I read it…Frank Herbert’s classic never disappoints!
Truly one of the great stories.
What an amazing future Hubert created. Not light reading but worth it.
I’m slowly working my way back through the classic sci fi novels and Dune resides right at or near the top.
A science fiction classic.
Don’t miss this. Among the best science fiction books written. In those days, it was long but irresistible. It defines epic science fiction. Now people write epic length books all the time – but they are rarely worth it.
Best scifi I have ever read.
One of the great sci-fi novels of all time. This is my 3rd or 4th reading since it was published.
Classic Science Fiction — a landmark novel. If you haven’t read it yet, do so.
One of my favorite books EVER. Read it when first published and every few years since. Herbert created a truly original set of worlds and people and while he extended the story through many books, the first is the best. It stands on its own, or as a gateway to a very long, exciting tapestry.
This is one of my favorite books of all time. Wonderful story. It’s also the only book I have ever read with appendixes on ecology, geneology, and religion along with a glossary and a map. Yes – it’s that complex. While considered “science fiction”, it’s more a book about politics, history, faith, tribe and justice.
I’ve read the entire series 6 times. Very captivating. Excellent depth.
Classic syfy very entertaining!
A classic of sci fi. I loved this the first time I read it and it still is a wonderful story, a real keeper.
Brilliantly depicts a time and place that is so remote and yet so familiar. Draws much from Middle-Eastern story and legend, the Silk Road, and the culture clash of Orient & Occident circa the Islamic Golden Age and the Crusades. True storytelling magic!
I have read Dune 8times and I don’ t actually like SYFY. THE WRITER Is a genius and hides what is actually about: ecology and what is done to a planet that has become a Dune a desert and water is priced so only the wealthy can afford it. Drugs/ Spice. It describes today, even wars etc.
On 1 level it is a masterpiece SyFy but on 2-3 levels it describes our world today. Like I wrote Every time I read I understand another level. The plot will grab you and it is written by a genius. If you enjoy reading a book that challenges you to think this book will open you to a new experience
Dune is a science fiction classic that everyone should read.
THE science fiction novel by which all others are judged. DUNE is huge in scope, detailed in character and world building, and minute in its examination of the human experience. You cannot consider yourself a well-read person unless you’ve read DUNE.
What can I say that hasn’t been said a thousand times before? One of the greatest sci-fi novels of all time. A must read.
