“Dune” is one of those books that you have to force yourself to read. Many like large volume stories, and to be honest, I enjoy them at times. I put this in the “romantic SF” line.
Loved it! So much better than the movie.
One of the greatest novels ever written, Dune changed Science Fiction forever and brought character driven SF to the mainstream reading public. Written 53 years ago, it has stood the test of time!
If you haven’ Read this classic you have missed a great book.
A sci-if classic. I could read this book again and again.
one of the best original world and story
Always enjoy reading this book.
A classic!
loved the original Dune the first book, the sequels lost some of the original appeal
One of the best!!!
Great classic book!!!!!
I have read the complete series and enjoyed all of them.
This book spawned a lifetime of reading for generations. Herbert created a dynasty. This is a book that has been attempted to be filmed numerous times and it still has never been well done….YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK!!!!
This is Herbert’s science fiction classic. I think every SF fan — and every fan of great literature, as a matter of fact — really should read this because it’s iconic. As a book on its own, though, I really don’t like it. None of the characters are sympathetic. There’s a way to write unsympathetic characters and not create a book that’s simply vile, but Herbert didnt seem to have that skill. Also, while this was groundbreaking for its time, the entire system of the empire is so sexist, it’s really disgusting, especially to a female reader, like me. I’d really hope that humanity would be able to achieve an equal society, thousands of years in the future, especially since advanced technology would erase the physical differences in strength between the sexes. To Herbert, it was perfectly normal that the Bene Gesserit were waiting for a male savior but that concept is just odious to me. It’s iconic, it’s a classic but it’s very dated.
A sci fi classic.
if you saw the movie, forget everything in it – the book is a classic and deservedly so. i re-read it at least once or twice every year just because it is that good.
This book remains a classic in my view. Still timely in its understanding and observation of human nature.
A great political, science fiction, adventure novel.
This is my all time favorite book. Anyone who likes a little sci fi with their sociology will find it interesting.
The world building in this book is incredible. Read this as a teen and several times since!
