NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Chang Chen, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem.Frank Herbert’s classic masterpiece—a triumph of the imagination and one of the bestselling science fiction novels of all time.Set on … the bestselling science fiction novels of all time.
Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, heir to a noble family tasked with ruling an inhospitable world where the only thing of value is the “spice” melange, a drug capable of extending life and enhancing consciousness. Coveted across the known universe, melange is a prize worth killing for….
When House Atreides is betrayed, the destruction of Paul’s family will set the boy on a journey toward a destiny greater than he could ever have imagined. And as he evolves into the mysterious man known as Muad’Dib, he will bring to fruition humankind’s most ancient and unattainable dream.
A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction.

One of the all time classics of science fiction. Unique creation of an alternative world and culture
All time classic, well earned.
I have enjoyed reading this book and really enjoyed it.
Best of the series.
Thought provoking
Extraordinary work of art in story form. Dune is a must-read for sci-fi fans.
Love this book I try to read it at least once a year
Best sci fi of the last 50 years
A classic. All the sequels were as good as the first.
If you want to get the most of the Dune series, start with the “House” books first (House Harkonen, House Atreides, etc.) You will then understand much more of the politics and motivations of the characters.
I recommend the entire series.
This is one of the best science fiction novels I have read. I would say and this is rare for me that this first book of the Dune series is flawless. I find nothing wrong with it. It is a brilliant critique of organized religion, also an interesting take on multinationals becoming oligarchies which rule the galaxy over generations. There are strong female characters and a wonderful “coming of age” journey for the main character. The reader can watch the formation and birth of an avatar, i.e. messiah. Read it!
A Classic!!
I love the series.
classic sci-fi created own world
A good read with a unique story line, but a little long.
Very 1st Science fiction book I ever read. The best!
Please let me be the millionth person to recommend Dune by Frank Herbert. This Sci Fi classic was one of the first world building epic stories to be put down on paper. The characters are well developed and interesting without becoming stereotypes. The plot is an epic hero’s journey but the interweaving of the setting makes the planet of Dune another character. Herbert does a masterful job of setting out the plot points and twisting each one to a new direction. There is a reason this book has been considered a masterpiece for thirty plus years. I hope a whole new generation of fans can wrap up Harry Potter and pick up the story of Paul Atredies and find new adventures to go on.
I first read this in the Analog Science Fiction magazine where it was serialized. I’ve read it a couple of times since. Really a neat premise and good characters. He really makes Dune seem like a real planet. Can’t go wrong with it.
Vantastic !!!
