Herberts classic, one of the Sci-Fi genre’s best. If you have never read DUNE you must add it to your “must-Read” list!
Dune is the quintessential science fiction epic. It should be required reading for all sci-fi fans. Warning to all Dune readers, though, once you begin the journey you will not want to stop. After you finish Herbert’s masterpieces, there are prequels, sequels, and numerous discussions to feed the imagination.
A classic tale of dynasty, religious fanaticism, intrigue and betrayal. Highly recommended for science fiction fans
A classic. The film couldn’t begin to capture the complexity and nuances of the book. I didn’t care for the sequels, but I reread Dune several times and loved it more with each reading.
Great book. It is a strange read. Favorite quote ( tears are water for the dead )
The great start to a classic series, the books don’t stay as good, but never get bad
Classic
A sci-fi book that at the time I read it, was one of the most sought after. I would’ve given it a 5-star rating then. After re-reading, it gets a 4. Not one of my favorites as the action jumps around and get quite confusing at times.
Read it at least 5 times since Frank Herbert published it. Was one of the best science fiction books ever.
If you are a sci fi reader it is a big of a must read as Lord of the Rings is to adventure!
One of the easiest sci-fi books I’ve ever read – re-reading it never fails to delight.
This is perhaps my favorite novel of all time. I have read it at least three times and have all the connected books, including the prequels and sequels by Herbert’s son Brian (in collaboration with Kevin Anderson. The characters in the follow-ups are so well drawn that I am convinced the DUNE characters must have been talked about around the dinner table so much that the Herbert children knew them like aunts and uncles and grandparents.
Original but a little slow in parts
One of the best SF novels ever written. Have read it many times over the decades and will continue to do so until the day I pass. A universe so well thought out and described. Better than it’s many sequels overall.
Great SF world building.
I read this book a few decades ago, and remember really enjoying it, but at this point, I can’t say why. It’s a classic, though, and worth reading.
One of the books that forms the basis of the science fiction genre. Must read.
Dune is a classic for many reasons and if you love SF, but have never read Dune by Frank Herbert, you need a pinch of Spice added to your life. 😉
I’m not much of a science fiction reader, but I really enjoyed this book. The premise was intriguing , and as a friend of mine likes to say “light on the science, heavy on the fiction”. I was definitely rooting for House Atreides, and I couldn’t put the book down!
Culture clash, politics of empire and commerce, psychic witches–what more could you want?
