This is a book that I suggest everyone read this book at some point in their life. It is a book about philosophy, a book about religion, about humanity, about the complicated war between good and evil and about the strength and reach of human potential.
A great start for a fabulous series – MUCH better than the movie. I read all the Dune books – quickly.
This book is a true classic, and I highly recommend that everyone read it at least once.
Loved all of the Dune series!
Dune is the best Sci Fi ever written.
Better than I remembered. My first reading was years ago, and I liked it even better this time.
If you haven’t read “Dune” and you like worlds uniquely different from our own, you’ll “Dune”. If you liked the intrigue of “Game of Thrones”, you’ll like “Dune”. Dune is so richly detailed and such an unforgettable world, you’re sure it must be exist somewhere out there in the stars.
The Dune and its following books are describing a strange world about sand worms, narcotics and interstellar intriques. Little more phantasy as real sci-fi. Huge books, nothing to read stepwise in the bed. Easy to lose the storyline, the zillions of characters.
I read this book years ago, in the 1960s. It was very original at the time, and turned out to be the best of the series by Herbert. I recommend it highly, something I can’t do for the books later in the series. A great read.
Great philosophical science fiction.
It is much better than the rest of the trilogy.
One of my all time favorites.A must read.
meh, I waded my way through the entire series out of pure cussedness. I wanted to know what the deal was about the cinnamon sand and the worms…I found the story a monumental waste of time and energy but I was determined to find out what the deal was with the worms. I found out. This is not a book I’ll ever pick up again nor will I recommend it to anyone.
Read this book the first time when I was in 6th grade. My teacher didn’t believe me, and gave me a quiz on it after I wrote a book report. Have read it several times before – and after the movie. MUST READ.
A completely different world created especially for us. It took me forever to read this first book only because I had to keep going to the dictionary in the back to learn all the new words and people and, and, and…… BUT, once you get that under your skin, this book will own you! I read them so long ago that there were only 3! I guess now would be a good time to re-read and pick up all the sequels! Don’t go by any movies you’ve seen. Read them-you won’t regret it.
One of the best sci-fi books I’ve ever read! Very imaginative and it draws you in with how humans may exist live in the future after space travel.
A classic original story that was wrapped in a convoluted plot in an all too real universe. Powerful, complex characters, most of them were easy to love to hate, and complicated plot twists, all lead to a satisfying conclusion. The only problem with Frank Hebert’s creation was that it became a series in which each subsequent title was less satisfying than the previous in which complication seemed to become the only redeeming quality.
Dune was made into a movie. However, in the movie, they added a line that was not in the book and wasn’t in the original concept of Dune.
Dune is an intricate book with different layers. It could be referring to modern day issues but from a science fiction point of view.
The main character is developed and there are other characters. I liked it the originality of the setting and the many characters.
Great series
One of the finest science fiction novels ever written.
