Book Two in the Magnificent Dune Chronicles—the Bestselling Science Fiction Adventure of All TimeDune Messiah continues the story of Paul Atreides, better known—and feared—as the man christened Muad’Dib. As Emperor of the known universe, he possesses more power than a single man was ever meant to wield. Worshipped as a religious icon by the fanatical Fremen, Paul faces the enmity of the political … the enmity of the political houses he displaced when he assumed the throne—and a conspiracy conducted within his own sphere of influence.
And even as House Atreides begins to crumble around him from the machinations of his enemies, the true threat to Paul comes to his lover, Chani, and the unborn heir to his family’s dynasty…

Dune Messiah, I also needed to re-read to understand.
Another thought provoking science fiction book from Frank Herbert.
I read this in hard cover and would love to buyo it in kindle version, but
Dune is an exciting sci-fi version of the hero’s journey, but there are hints that maybe that our hero isn’t so inherently noble. It’s implied that Paul Atreides is intentionally misleading the Fremen by weaponizing their religion. In Paul’s visions he sees a devastating jihad carried out in his name. Dune Messiah brings that to the forefront of the text as it argues against hero worship. This is essential to my enjoyment of the original Dune.
very good science fiction and historical theory — relevant today
The second installment of the best SciFi series ever written — hands down.
Probably the greatest sci fi book of all time!
This is the best Si fi book ever written. There are a bunch of prequels written by his son and they are very good. They explain every question form this story. A must read!
If you loved Dune, this follow up book is for you too!
Frank Herbert developed and wrote the most amazing science fiction. I stand in awe of it. Dune Messiah is the natural follow up novel after Dune. He continues to mesmerize the reader with all the twists and turns involved in the follow up story.
Love SF
It is a classic! I first read it years ago and read again every so many years. One for pure enjoyment and two – how insightful Frank Herbert was of society and governmental entities.
I read this book so long ago that I just read it again. I came away with different visual because of the movies but still some of the best writing i have encountered. Few modern writers can compare to this quality of writing.
I read this book several years ago, and don’t remember it well enough to do a proper review, but I generally liked Frank Herbert’s first few books in this series, especially the original “Dune”.
Not up to the original – but still a good sci-fi tale
This is a slow read that requires concentration, but it is also a great metaphor for our current political strife.
NOTHING LIKE FRANK HERBERT FOR DUNE. THIS IS BOOK TWO OF A TRILOGY. THE FINAL THREE WRITTEN BY FRANK ARE WORTH THE TIME AND EFFORT TOO, BEING VERY CEREBRAL AND NOT YOUR AVERAGE SCI-FI. HIS SON BRIAN TRIED BUT FAILED MISERABLY TO EQUAL THE ORIGINAL FIVE BOOKS. IF YOU LIKE TO THINK WHILE BEING ENTERTAINED, THEN CHECK THESE OUT.
Not nearly as good as Dune and in my opinion, unnecessary.
I love the whole Dune series. It is a remarkable piece of work!
The entire Dune series is a must read for sci-fi buffs.
Really enjoyed the first book. The third book not so much.
