I couldn’t even finish reading the book and that is something I am loathe to do.
I truly enjoyed this book. You get to know the main characters fairly well, but there is always something about them that is kept out to surprise you. Very easy reading flows right along. You think you know “ who dunit “ from the very beginning but she always has a twist at the end you don’t see coming. This is the second in the series I’ve been fortunate enough to read.
I think you will enjoy it!
This is the second in this series that I have read. I love them. Ready to read another one!
I didn’t finish it. I’m sorry but it was boring and I found no interest in the characters.
This was a quick read and entertaining. A little oh my gosh and then some of the truth is not always what you want it to be.
This is stereotypical cozy mystery. It is easy to read, there are only a couple of typos/wrong words that got by the proofreading. If you like slow-moving cozies set in a small town you will probably like this – the violence is off-stage, the romance is very chaste, nothing explicit. It’s a safe read for those of you sensitive to swearing, sex, etc.
Personally, I am not a huge fan of cozies, they tend to be boring and a bit tedious; this was no exception, from my perspective. I downloaded it because it was set along the Oregon coast, a place I love, but I was disappointed that there was no real local color – it could be any coastal town anywhere USA. There is a large cast of local characters, largely indistinguishable from one another. It is part of a series so the author is developing the setting and community. If you like cozy series you may enjoy this slow build over many books. I like series, but am unlikely to follow this one .
However, that said, I applaud the writer for her efforts, the book is logically developed, the writing is straightforward and there are almost no errors to distract the reader. It is not my cup of tea, but it very well may be yours.
It was okay, it had a few twists, and was a sorta love/mystery story and a fast read. I felt the author did develop the characters and I liked it, but a bit too predictable for me.
Amanda runs a historic inn and helps police officer, James, solve crimes. The characters are all interesting and the plot is tricky. This is a small town mystery with small town get togethers and meetings.
I just finished this book, the second in the series. I can’t get enough of the delightful characters and small town charm!
Rating PG –
Children wouldn’t be interested.
No sex but references to one character suspected of rape.
Only one incidence, I think, of strong language.
Good presentations of characters needing to choose between what’s morally or ethically right and wanting to spare another’s feelings or avoid an uncomfortable confrontation.
The story loses one star because the first chapter rehashes, in a rather confusing way, too much of book #1 in the series, which I hadn’t read. Throughout the story, references to the first book may have spoiled that one for me. If I can borrow it for free on Amazon Prime, I may read it anyway.
Writing style: Mostly quite good, except occasionally when I wanted to hand the writer a thesaurus to help out with a sentence that might be similar to, “The sunset was really pretty.” Other times descriptions and dialog were faultless.
Plot – Well conceived. I’m not particularly good at guessing whodunit, and though the clues and foreshadowing were there, I did not guess.
Mystery (no spoiler here): Who would have had motive and opportunity to kill the person found out by the dock? How was it done?
Characters: Likable. I appreciate that the older characters were not presented as doddering or fairly incompetent, nor were the younger ones wide-eyed and naive. The main character was not the stereotypical amateur sleuth who sees and intuits more than the authorities.
I’d be willing to read another, but I’d sure be careful to read them in order!
Definitely light reading.
If you like cozy mysteries, you’ll probably like this one.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and others by this author that I have read. Interesting characters and good relationships between them. Nice break from action packed suspenseful shoot-em-ups. Highly recommended. Take break and relax!!!!
