Don’t miss the thrilling novel from undisputed King of Horror and #1 New York Times bestselling author Stephen King about what happens when the barrier between our world and that of the supernatural is breached… No more than a dark pencil line on a blank page. A horizon line, maybe. But also a slot for blackness to pour through… A terrible construction site accident takes Edgar Freemantle’s … accident takes Edgar Freemantle’s right arm and scrambles his memory and his mind, leaving him with little but rage as he begins the ordeal of rehabilitation. A marriage that produced two lovely daughters suddenly ends, and Edgar begins to wish he hadn’t survived the injuries that could have killed him. He wants out. His psychologist, Dr. Kamen, suggests a “geographic cure,” a new life distant from the Twin Cities and the building business Edgar grew from scratch. And Kamen suggests something else.
“Edgar, does anything make you happy?”
“I used to sketch.”
“Take it up again. You need hedges…hedges against the night.”
Edgar leaves Minnesota for a rented house on Duma Key, a stunningly beautiful, eerily undeveloped splinter of the Florida coast. The sun setting into the Gulf of Mexico and the tidal rattling of shells on the beach call out to him, and Edgar draws. A visit from Ilse, the daughter he dotes on, starts his movement out of solitude. He meets a kindred spirit in Wireman, a man reluctant to reveal his own wounds, and then Elizabeth Eastlake, a sick old woman whose roots are tangled deep in Duma Key. Now Edgar paints, sometimes feverishly, his exploding talent both a wonder and a weapon. Many of his paintings have a power that cannot be controlled. When Elizabeth’s past unfolds and the ghosts of her childhood begin to appear, the damage of which they are capable is truly devastating.
The tenacity of love, the perils of creativity, the mysteries of memory, and the nature of the supernatural–Stephen King gives us yet another novel as fascinating as it is gripping and terrifying.more
As an artist as well as a writer, I loved this book as it captured my imagination on the power of creating art. The combination of that and as usual, an excellent fast-paced thriller that pulls you on was captivating.
This is in my Top 10 most favorite books to date. I haven’t ever been to the Florida Keys, but after reading this epic Stephen King novel, I almost feel like I have. Incredible story telling rich with description I hope to one day emulate myself.Stephen King
I loved this book!!!!
Awesome story.
Duma Key is one of those rare gems that take the reader on a roller coaster ride through practically every emotion, sometimes simultaneously. The supernatural events that King wrote about will keep you turning the pages. Once again, Stephen King has outdone himself.
An exceptional book by Stephen King. I opened the book, didn’t blink, and I was done. Loved it…
Intelligently written with fully fleshed characters – warts and all.
Writing in a way that pulls you in with rich characters, Stephen King shows you a world about art, loss, obsession, and more.
Loved this book, one of his best!
I really liked ranch dressing until I read this book. Thanks, Steven King. Thanks a lot.
As good as any and all of Big Steve’s work. Just takes place in FL this time.
This story had a lot to it and was so different. Moved along pretty quickly.
Not one of his better books
One of King’s best, in my opinion. He really grabs you and takes you for a ride into his inventive and haunted, talented mind of writing! I’ve read this book at least three times and I RARELY reread books…but this one is well, well worth it!!!!!
love this book I am rereading it now
This is one of my favorite Stephen King novels. I have not read it in years but it a must read.
Maybe not one of King’s great books, but still a pretty solid one.
Absolutely loved it
So many different emotions in this story. Loved it.
Probably my favorite King book to date. Very descriptive ~ surprisingly funny!
My favorite book of this author. Not his typical horror story – more supernatural in tone. Would like to see the author write more stories like this. Highly recommend!
