A disfigured duke and a mysterious woman discover that love is where you least expect to find it…Get Book Two in the bestselling Dukes of Destiny series – read for FREE in Kindle Unlimited!Lord William Ainsworth, Duke of Ravenwood, never expected to be his family’s heir. A youngest son, he happily undertakes a doctor’s education. But when his brothers pass unexpectedly and their father follows, … and their father follows, Will finds himself thrust into a role he doesn’t want. Nonetheless, dutiful and serious, he assumes the title just before serving as a military doctor abroad in Spain.
Will does not return home unscathed. While trying to reach a wounded man, an explosion leaves his face disfigured and sight impaired. This leads to a rejection from his fiancée, who breaks their engagement. Mortified and scared, Will refuses to reenter the ton and isolates himself with just his widowed Aunt Jane for company. Because of his misfortune, locals start to call him the “Duke of Sorrow”—a dubious gesture of sympathy.
One night, while taking their customary walk through the village on his estate, Will and Jane stumble upon an injured young woman. With his old instinct to heal overriding his desire to remain solitary, Will decides to bring her back to his manor so that she can recover.
There’s just one problem—she won’t tell either of them who she is. Jane accepts this more readily than Will, who grows increasingly frustrated and besotted with the stranger. At a loss, he christens her “Miss Brooke”, a reference to the brookside where they originally found her. In truth, Miss Brooke is Miss Augusta Copperweld.
And Augusta is determined never to return to her abusive, drunk father.
Together, Jane and Will try to solve the mystery of the spirited Miss Brooke. Augusta is reluctant to divulge her true identity, but Jane has a hunch that these two souls are meant to make each other whole.
Can Augusta help Will return to himself and relinquish his fears? Is he going to regain his courage and kindness?

Duke Of Sorrow is a a phenomenal historical romance by Whitney Blake. Ms. Blake has provided readers with a well-written book populated with a stellar cast of characters. Will returns home after being injured in battle to be dumped by the woman he was to marry. Augusta fled from her father after a beating and was found by Will and his aunt. Augusta and Will’s story is loaded with drama, humor, action and suspense. I enjoyed every page of this book and look forward to reading more from Whitney Blake in the future. Duke Of Sorrow is book 2 of the Dukes of Destiny Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
A wounded and scarred hero, makes it back home, but nothing will ever be the same. Now having inherited the title of Duke of Ravenswood, Will had to face the breaking off of his engagement and his limitatons. After all, he was no longer the handsome man he was and did not have his full eyesight back. He has no desire to go out into society but he does have his wonderful Aunt Jane for company.
But fate was going to step in as he and his aunt were taking one of their nightly walks and came upon an injured woman.
She has been badly beaten it appears and is so thin that he decides to take her back to the estate to take care of her. But when she finally wakes up she will not tell them her name. Her name is Augusta who had escaped her violent father that almost killed her.
This is such a heartfelt story. The wounded hero and the mistreated heroine. They both needed healing of the body and spirit. Could they possibly help each other? Such a wonderful story that will make you believe that there is always a second chance at life and love..
I really enjoyed this story & the characters William Percy Ainsworth, Duke of Ravenwood & respected physician & Augusta “Gussie” Copperweld were both scarred inside & out. Will’s face suffered an explosion when he was a physician during the war & his whole upper part of his face was scarred & his vision had mostly come back after losing is completely. He has returned to be a scarred recluse with bitter temperament & he wishes to have no guests or go anywhere to see other people.
Gussie had been beaten by her father many times with his fists or riding crop leaving scars on her arms & neck.
While on their nightly walk, Will & his Aunt Jane found Gussie unconscious, with welts on her arms & Will takes her back to his manor so he may treat her & ascertain if there are any more her injuries he could not see in the dark.
This is where their love story begins & it is emotional, funny, deceitful, romantic (just kisses), love & Aunt Jane adds so much wonderful tidbits to the story. I highly recommend this to all historical romance readers.
