He was sent to destroy her and everyone like her…but can he?Emily heard the stories of the Paragon survivors and their encounters with the strange alien race, but she never thought she would meet one herself. After all, she’s just a bored artist working as a store clerk to make ends meet, hoping for the adventure of the lifetime. She gets more than she bargained for, however, when a normal day … when a normal day off turns into the most unexpected, terrifying day of her life.
Perhaps the greatest militant Elder in A’li-uud history, Du’ciact (Duke) is eager to join the Albaterran warriors on their mission to destroy humanity. It’s cold and bloodthirsty, but he will do anything to protect his planet and its people. Within minutes of landing on Earth, he discovers the voluptuous, inquisitive Emily and is instantly struck by an inescapable passion that changes everything.
No matter how interested in the stony alien she is, Emily cannot forget he’s there to eliminate everything she holds so dear—including her own life. She must reconcile her desire to stay with him with her need to save herself, along with anyone else she can. Duke finds himself torn, as well, between his dedication to his race and his seemingly unbreakable connection to Emily. When their decisions are wrenched from their hands, however, they are forced to succumb to their instincts…even if that means leaving each other behind.
Will Emily and Duke rely on their logic in a time of war, or will their hearts win out?

I have to confess I did not enjoy this book as much as the previous in this series, maybe it is the premise of the book, but I will endeavor to remain unbiased in my review.
This is the sequel to Rex, but it is written as a standalone. The author uses the opening scene where all the Elders are called into Forum. During the proceedings, the background of book one is covered. Now the questions before the Elders is whether or not to do something since the humans are now aware of their existance. Then the newest member to the council suggest that in addition to trying to protect themselves, they should do hand to hand combat so that the planet is not destroyed and can be colonized by them. Needless to say, there are quite a few Elders that didn’t think of that and the possibility of it excites them since there are several resources on the planet that humans are not aware how valuable they are yet. After the vote is taken the majority votes for war and a total annihilation of the human race to protect Albaterra and provide a place for them to colonize.
Du’ciant Et’Petrum Montem’tribus is the Elder for the mountainous region of Montemba. Right before the Forum was called he had a dream where him and his brother, Dane, were fighting a battle with humans and Dane was killed. So he is very much in favor of the upcoming attack and plans to go with them, the only Elder that does. Emily Milton has lived a bohemian type of lifestyle for years where she would travel and try to sell her art. For the last few years she has been working in a mystical shop in Las Vegas. Her boss is a little strange and will frequently provide readings to patrons of her shop, but Emily knows it has to be a con. After the ship Epitome returned from space and informed the world about the existance of aliens, Emily has been obsessed with the idea of them and tries to read and watch everything she can. One day two women walk into the shop and discuss the news conference that was held to discuss the US and potential other countries forming a coalition to defend the world against the aliens if they decide to attack. Right after they left Emily’s boss is asking her about her feelings towards the aliens and then calmly informs her that there will be war soon. For some reason this sticks with her and just forms a ball of angst in her stomach that she can’t get rid of. At about the same time, the fighters for Duke are loading into their planes, along with the other regions of Albaterra, to travel to earth.
Emily finally gets a day off and decides to go the Mojave Desert to paint. After she gets set up, she hears a loud noise and dust is being kicked up. She covers her ears the best she can and looks up to see a large ship land some distance away. It appears the aliens have arrived just like her boss said … I am going to stop there so I don’t provide any of the spoilers.
Overall, this is a very well written book. I spotted two grammatical errors and the author kept the storyline such as it is in order and flowing smoothly. There is a little bit of adult language, a very erotic intimate scene and a lot of violence, so if you find these things offensive then this may not be the book for you.
I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book
I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t this. I don’t want to say anything about the plot, so it’s making it more difficult to write this, but it was such an original take on the alien romance. I found the plot refreshing. The story is full of emotion and action. I was immediately drawn to Emily, I knew Duke from the first book in the series, and their romance was lovely. I enjoyed this story so much! Ashley Hunt writes romance that is more than just sex scenes. The story would be just as strong without them, and just as enjoyable I think. I can’t wait to continue this series!
The story is a stand alone romance, but it picks up right after Rex and the next book in this series, Dane, picks up right after this one ends. I would recommend reading these in order so you get the full scope of everything.
