Another great book from Collette Cameron! And she always has some little words specific to the time period that make me laugh!
Duchess of His Heart is book six in the Seductive Scoundrels series by Collette Cameron. This is a fairly short book that is engaging and heart-tugging. Regine Maberly is a likable heroine who has sacrificed herself for the good of her family. Probably a situation not uncommon in the Regency era. The hero James Brentwood appears briefly in several of the preceding books in this series. I liked that he is not a peer, but rather a successful solicitor. In typical Cameron fashion, there are a few laugh out loud moments. Overall a delightful story in this series. I was given a copy of this book.
A well written novella that has you.rooting for second chances. Regine and James were childhood sweethearts until she had to marry a Duke so that her family was taken care of financially. After her husband’s as well as her mothers deaths, she goes to London with her youngest sister Juliet. There she runs into James who is now a partner in a law firm. Despite their past, there is still a connection between them. Will her stepson let her find happiness or will it be ruined?
James Brentwood and Regine Edenshaw had been friends and sweethearts since childhood. Eight years ago they were very much in love and were to be married as soon as she was out of mourning for her father, but she broke his heart when she married an elderly (wealthy) duke. She tries to explain her reasons to him, but young, angry, and hurt, James refuses to listen. When her mother dies, Regine, now a widow, returns to London with her younger sister Juliette. She and James meet accidentally and talk. The feelings are still there, but will it make a difference? This is a lovely Valentine’s Day story. James and Regine are wonderful characters and so much alike. They are both dedicated to and protective of those they love. It might not be easy to get past their broken hearts, but their sisters and friends are determined to help them find a second chance at happiness. I enjoyed this heartwarming story. It is a truly Happy Valentine.
A second chance at love that weaves a spell around you Collette Cameron is famous for with her wonderful words and characters. Having been young and in love, only wanting to marry, Regine and James had that torn from them. She had made the decision to marry for money since she, her mother and sister were left with horrible debt at the death of her father. Of course it had broken her heart but James would not even give her the chance to explain.
Now back in London, eight years later she sees him sitting in a coffee shop. She knew she should walk on put “Piffle and twaddle. Regine wasn’t a shrinking violet. Never had been. A swift Hello and, How are you? ought to suffice.”
Needless to say, she could not take her eyes off him and sitting down at his table he could only give her an icy stare.
Is there hope for these two? He had always been close in her thoughts. What had he felt?
Really enjoyed this story as all of this series and cannot wait for more!
Loved the story of Regine and James! I would have loved to see more happen to the villain in the end, but it was still satisfactory! Thank you for the advanced copy to read!
The Duchess of Heartwaite, Regine has returned to London. She cares for her sister Juliet and one morning she sees the love of her life, James Brentwood (brother to Theadosia ~Duchess of Sutcliffe Book 2 and Jessica~ Duchess of Brainbridge Book 5) the man she has always wanted to marry. Certain circumstances forced her to marry a elderly Duke and now that he has passed she can live comfortably. James a successful solicitor sees Regine and realizes he still loves her. Now with her hateful stepson after her inheritance and her body she needs James more than ever. James sets out to help her Legally and maybe even rekindle the love they once shared!
James has needed his story told since, book 2 Only A Duke Would Dare, and certainly after his commanding presence in Wooed By A Wicked Duke. I’m a little disappointed that the story was so short, I feel his character deserved a more exciting tale. He is somewhat of a hero in book 2 and 5, his sisters stories. I was truly surprised the book ended when it did.
Overall though, I still enjoyed reading this book, and I’m sure others will as well. I did receive an ARC. I choose to leave my honest opinion of the story I just read.
Prepare to fall in love with the characters in this latest addition to Collette Cameron’s Seductive Scoundrels series. Regine sacrificed herself several years earlier when she married an aged Duke after her father died and left her mother, sisters and herself debt-ridden. She gave up the love of her life to do so. They meet again after she is widowed and James, her former sweetheart, has successfully established himself as a lawyer. This novella-length, well written, second chance at love work held my interest from the beginning until the last page was read. I had a smile on my face throughout. A sweet, clean romance with a mild heat level. A perfect read for Valentines’ Day or anytime. I was provided an advance copy of this work and offer this voluntary review. All opinions stated are my own.
Duchess of His Heart was given to me as an ARC by the fabulous author, Collette Cameron. This is a spectacular, quick moving story that captivates the reader and makes it impossible to stop reading.
Regine is a widowed Duchess who was madly head over heels in love with James, a solicitor in the making 8 years ago.
“Trip over love, you can get up. Fall in love and you fall forever. Anyone can catch your eye, but it takes someone special to catch your heart.” a quote by Shakespeare in the story.
The two accidentally meet once again on a cold, rainy day and their love re-ignites. Unfortunately, their meeting also reminds James of how Regine left him for a title and wealth and his misunderstandings make him wonder why he still holds a tendre for her. “People might move on, but wounds, just as joyous events, left indelible marks that never, never completely vanished.”
Another wonderful book by Collette Cameron! This is a stand alone read but I feel you would enjoy reading the complete series in chronological order.
James Brentwood is a handsome rogue, solicitor & a partner in a law firm. He has worked himself from the lowest employee to partner over several years – he is an exceptional lawyer with exclusive clients & his fees are quite high. He has chosen his profession as his mistress, after being jilted by Regine, his only love, eight years ago..
Regine Maberly, Duchess of Heartwaite, is beautiful, a widow of 2 years & has returned to London. She had married Heartwaite, almost 50 years her senior, to save her ailing mother & 3 sisters after the death of her father & the mountain of debt he left. Heartwaite agreed on a generous annual income, settled her family in a home & paid her father’s debts.
Now, when James & Regine see each other for the first time in 8 years, they both still feel the love the had lost. Dangerous legal circumstances from the new Heartwaite heir threaten Regine’s inheritance & she asks James for his help. Can they get past all of the hurt, can he forgive her, will she survive the legal accusations placed on her? The character were so kind & loving plus Regine’s younger sister was a very welcomed addition to the story!
I highly recommend this read & the only reason I only gave it 4 Stars was the length – it was just too short – I wanted it to get to know the characters better & have more time to recover, forgive, understand what happened eight years ago. I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.

My review :
When two childhood sweethearts rekindle, can they set aside why they were torn apart to decide if they might have a future together …
I have only one complaint, it was too short!
I would have loved to read a little longer about James and Regine than Mrs Collette Cameron offers here.
Regine has chosen what has been seen as betrayal in order to save her family. In the process, she has deeply wounded her former betrothed and herself.
Now height years later, she still feels like an impostor and when faced with James, despite everything between them, she can’t shake him out of her skin.
James survived Regine’s betrayal but at a heavy cost. Now he is a successful solicitor, still seeing her again reawaken feelings only superficially buried. Then a single unexpected word makes him rethink everything he thought during those eight years apart, he understands he might have missed something important so many years ago by not listening to her.
It is a sweet and clean story, but as they are very lovable characters, this shortened novella leaves me asking for more from and about them.
4 stars
The cover is gorgeous.
I was granted an advance copy by the author.
Here is my true and unbiased opinion.

James and Regine’s story is a perfect Valentine’s Day romance. Ten years earlier, they were in love and planned to wed. However, when Regine’s father died, she married a much older duke in order to save her family from destitution. Now, Regine has returned to London as a widow and with her younger sister in tow. She happens to run into James in a coffee house and not only are old wounds opened but the passion and longing are reignited.
This touching story of second-chance love is great for an afternoon read, curled up with a cup of tea. I wish the story had been longer – I so loved the characters! Please let Juliet have her own story when she is a few years older! Although friends and relatives from other books appear in this story, it can be read as a stand-alone without any difficulties.
Whether you are familiar with Ms. Cameron’s books or this is your first book, you are in for a treat. I received an advanced copy from the author but I happily and voluntarily left my review.
I really loved this nice sweat story, it put a smile on my face and made me feel good. The story is about James and Regine who were in love when they were younger. Regine broke James heart when she left him and married an older Duke to save her family. Years later Regine becomes a Widow and moves back to London. Once they meet their feelings can not be stopped. Collette Cameron writes in a way you feel and understand all the emotions the characters are going through. I love her writing style.
