In the latest installment of Craig Johnson’s New York Times bestselling Longmire series, Wyoming’s beloved lawman takes on his coldest case yet When Jen, the largest, most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton ever found surfaces in Sherriff Walt Longmire’s jurisdiction, it appears to be a windfall for the High Plains Dinosaur Museum—until Danny Lone Elk, the Cheyenne rancher on whose property … Cheyenne rancher on whose property the remains were discovered, turns up dead, floating face down in a turtle pond. With millions of dollars at stake, a number of groups step forward to claim her, including Danny’s family, the tribe, and the federal government. As Wyoming’s Acting Deputy Attorney and a cadre of FBI officers descend on the town, Walt is determined to find out who would benefit from Danny’s death, enlisting old friends Lucian Connolly and Omar Rhoades, along with Dog and best friend Henry Standing Bear, to trawl the vast Lone Elk ranch looking for answers to a sixty-five million year old cold case that’s heating up fast.

Humor goes a long way in helping a mystery capture my attention. Johnson added just enough to make me laugh out loud. This was my second reading but just as good as the first time around.
Craig Johnson delivers again.
Walt and all the usual entertaining cast of characters try to determine who can claim the bones of a prehistoric creature in this outing. With help and comfort from the Cheyenne Nation, Walt has a personal tragedy to deal with. Speaking of comfort, Vic offers that and more. Color me shocked. Naughty Walt.
As with all of Craig Johnson’s books, I enjoyed Dry Bones immensely. He is such a gifted writer.
Always enjoy Longmire stories!
great series
Excellent series
Gotta love Walt. Great stories and humor.
If you enjoyed Walt and team on the Longmire TV series , cancelled WAY too soon, be prepared to enjoy this series. Same folks with slightly different ‘personas’ – but still the mystery and modern West law enforcement I loved from that show. Thanks to the show for introducing me to the books!
Good police procedural set in the Walt Longmire world. Never a dull moment with some unexpected personal tradgedy thrown in with the title case.
Love the Longmire series. It is among the very best in contemporary westerns and I recommend both the books and the television series.
Great characters. The Longmire series is always a great read.
What can you say – all of the Longmire books are great reads… I love the characters –
I loved the Longmire television series and fairly recently started reading these books. Most of the characters are the same as the tv series, so it was an easy switch to the written version. The main character is not the brilliant Superman as many authors portray their stars, but a believable realistic modern western Wyoming sherrif. I’ll be …
Part of the Longmire series and a favorite of mine Hero Walt is the heart of the series and Standing Bear is its soul. Good read.
I like this book as well as I liked the “Longmire” Series on TV. It was a little different but more realistic. I have purchased several more of the series.
Great read, Longmire is one of my favorites.
Love reading the Longmire books. Got hooked watching the show now reading the books.
I thoroughly enjoy the Longmire series. The cast of characters are an interesting and entertaining lot. The time period is modern with the “Old West” vibe. Recommend trying this series of books.
All of the Longmire books are excellent books. The storylines are compelling and the author has a talent for making the reader feel a part of the story.
