I’m a cutter.I cut because I find solace in it.I cut because it helps calm my frantic mind.I cut because the voices inside my head tell me to.I cut because this is the only way I know how to handle life.
WOW! There really is nothing I can say that can or ever will do this book justice. For anyone that is familiar to Margaret McHeyzer’s work knows that she is one EVIL AUTHOR (nah jokes). Margaret is no stranger to writing books about hard topics, so don’t expect her to stray in this book. If there was a World Guinness Record for the most emotions felt while reading a book this would have to be the book to hold the record. This book will have you crying (no real shock there lol), laughing, screaming at the characters in frustration, pride, sorrow, heartache, joy, happiness, just to prepare you for. I feel like every time I read one of Margaret’s books I need to have shares in Kleenex.
Drowning is going to cause your heart to break to pieces, then it will put itself back together just to get broken all over again.
A few of my favourite quotes would have to be these:
“You know, you’re really pushy for a guy.”
“Your grandmother has a motorcycle?” Dad asks. “Yeah, she’s the one who taught me how to ride.”
“I’ll send you some Vaseline.”

“The hour will come when we all must face our demons. Sometimes those demons are real, and sometimes only you can see and hear them. Strength will prevail, as long as you can hold on for one more moment. Because it’s in these moments when courage, loyalty, love and strength will triumph”
Drowning is a novel so very dear to my heart and I know my words aren’t going to do it justice. Mental illness is something so many of us struggle with, and yet often not spoken about. Often it’s lonely world, shrouded in darkness because nobody is willing to talk about it. It almost feels as though its taboo and misunderstood. I should know, I suffer from a mental illness, hence why my connection to Drowning is so very intense.
Margaret McHeyzer has written a novel that tackles a range of extremely hard subjects, but has done it in such a way that you can feel every emotion, every inch of the darkness that confines both Ivy and Tobias.
Two teenagers with so many secrets.
Two teenagers with so much darkness within them that it’s suffocating.
Two teenagers existing, not living.
Two teenagers brought together by chance.
Two broken souls.
Two teenagers that have a voice through Drowning.
I am at a complete loss to even articulate into words how much love I have for this novel. For me it’s a novel that should be shared with every teenager growing up. It should be shared so all sufferers can see that often when we feel like drowning, there is hope. It should be shared because this is reality as we know it. It should be shared because mental illness should never be hidden, and for those who suffer should never feel ashamed, or feel alone.
To Ivy and Tobias….My heart will be with you both always.
Guys I implore you, please read Drowning. Please don’t cower away from this. It’s a highly emotional and confronting read, but it needs to be read.
I can’t rate this novel high enough.

5 Love You Stars!
This is a story that needs to be read by everyone. Doesn’t matter if you are a young adult or a seasoned adult. What an eye-opening story that gives you a better understanding behind what types of demons people battle with each and every day.
Ivy and Tobias both have demons they are battling with. Both embarrassed to open up to anyone about what they are going through. It’s a tough road that we see deeply inside of with Ivy. It’s not until a tragic event happens that causes Ivy to spiral into the spinning that you are unable to overcome.
With love and the aide of family and a wonderful psychiatrist, Ivy gets the help she much needs and is able to move on and attend college. But trust me in saying that getting to where she is today, hasn’t been an easy road to travel.
It’s when Tobias finally opens up and reveals his demons, my heart cracked. But finding out how his father was dealt with, I will admit, I fist bumped to my kindle!
Margaret McHeyzer can pen a book related to taboo situations that people steer clear of. She opens our eyes to see that even though mental illness is a disease, its one that there are resources available for all. Never think you are alone. It just takes the courage to have your voice be heard. Make that phone call, tell a loved one, talk to someone. Never try to battle the demons on your own. Everyone deserves to be loved!!

This Story will stay with me for a long time to come. It is thought provoking roller coaster of a book. It does deals with mental health issues and other issues that are both pretty close to my own heart. This book a beautifully written, the story is great, the feelings are so powerful.
It is emotional raw and heart breaking.
I loved Ivy and Tobias they are two broken souls both fighting their own demons in the only way they think they can… I loved Jared her best friend… The side characters are so good as well, Tobias grandmother I loved her she is so cool. I loved how she dealt with a certain person he only got what he deserved, A baseball bat<<<< that was brilliant. This will make sense when you read the book. Ivy and Tobias fought their demons came out stronger. However, sadly not everyone can fight his or her demons
All I will say is have loads of tissues to hand I went through a lot reading this book but so worth it. I love the message. . Therefore, please if you are dealing with one of the issues in this book or any mental health issues please speak out, there is someone out there willing to help or even listen.
There is no real way of describing this book to be able to do it justice. Margaret amazes me every time with her story telling. This book will be one of my favourite books, definitely one I will never forget.
