MACKENNAI have everything I need to live out my dream of being a reclusive songwriter—my guitar, my notebook, and blissful silence. At least, I did until Jimmy moved in next door. He’s got bad news written all over him. And last time I got with a bad boy, it ended with me pointing a gun and pulling the trigger.Talk about going out with a bang.Jimmy makes me want things I shouldn’t want, which means … shouldn’t want, which means I have two options: avoid him or piss him off. But no matter what I do he isn’t fazed, and I’m quickly realizing there’s more to Jimmy than I originally thought.
JIMMY
Over the past year, I’ve been called a lot of things. Slacker. Troublemaker. Party animal.
I thought I was on top of the world. Turns out, I was pretty close to rock bottom.
Now I have a new title: college dropout.
But I’ve got a chance to redeem myself—one summer of squeaky-clean behavior at Grandma Beverly’s. Two months to prove I’m not a complete f*ck-up.
And four rules to follow with the gorgeous girl next door. Rules aren’t exactly my forte, but I only plan on breaking one of them.
I want to get back to being one of the good guys.
Although Dropout is the third book in the Good Guys series, it can be enjoyed as a standalone.

Grabs your attention and holds it. He is the perfect boyfriend. Holy cow heartwarming and romantic. Oh and Hooottt!
I see I am in the minority here, but I did not love this book. It’s not the story so much as the execution. I’ve read Magic Man which was a real masterpiece so I know this author is capable of great romance writing, but this one I had problems with.
The basic story is nice—a very young man who discovers his passions in life which are his career and his girl, and he goes all in pursuing them both. The characters are really lovable and it’s satisfying to see them get their HEA. They are much better together than apart.
But there’s so much that is implausible in this story. As much as I like these characters it’s so easy to forget how young they are. They didn’t act like or speak like Gen Zers do. Jimmy in particular would have been more believable as a 25 year old rather than 19. There’s other stuff too that is not believable IMO. I won’t go into them here but suffice it to say that they were a distraction.
Structurally the first half of the story was ok although a bit slapsticky, but the second half totally fell apart into a hodge podge of excessive sex and drama.
Anyway, I’m not telling anybody they shouldn’t read this book. A lot of people really liked it, but personally I had a harder and harder time with it as the story went along. I hope it’s just a fluke because I plan to read Trucker next and I really want to like it. I haven’t given up on this author based on the excellence of Magic Man.

Such a great book. All the books in this series have been great. I can’t wait to read the others.
Mack and Jimmy are great together. A shy heroine and a lost hero. Both have cracks but not fully damaged that will help mend each other.
The plot was also great with lots of guessing and drama.
Well worth the read.
The best one in the series so far. Spending time with his grandmother for the summer and get past failing out of his first year of college should help to center Jimmy and decide on what direction his future should go in. His grandmother’s next door neighbor, Mackenna, who has her own cross to bear seems like the perfect distraction. What starts out as an annoyance moves to friendship and then into so much more. But can two broken people help put each other back together again? Will they both allow themselves to find happiness? With beautifully written characters and a storyline filled with a sense that you really can overcome your past this was a fabulous read.
Dropout is the third book in Jamie’s A Good Guys Series. It can be read as a stand alone if you haven’t had a chance to read the first two. This series is so sweet and steamy!!
Jimmy’s first year of college didn’t go as planned; studying took a back burner to all the partying. To try to get his life back on track, he takes the summer to help his grandma around the house. Little does he know his future may be closer than he thinks.
Mackenna is trying to get her life under control. An abusive ex boyfriend left her skittish and vulnerable. She is having a hard time relating to anyone but when she meets Jimmy, she can’t figure out why she is drawn to him. Will she allow herself to let him in or will her anxiety get the best of her??
So far all of the books in this series have been fun and sexy!! They will certainly put a smile on your face! Can’t wait to see what is up next!
Jimmy meets Mackenna his fist day living with his grandmother. She is their next door neighbor. Mack has had a rough few years. She was in an abusive relationship that ended with her shooting her ex. Now she is antisocial and mostly stays to herself, even working from home. Jimmy has had a rough year and is looking for redemption. Helping his Grandmother for the summer and giving up partying is his way to gain back what he has lost of himself. Will Mack and Jimmy find what they need in each other? Will Jimmy be able to break down the walls Mack has constructed around herself? I really enjoyed this book, and this entire series.
OH my heck, this was SO GOOD! Jimmy’s made some mistakes, but he owns up to them right away & the way he wears his heart on his sleeve (along w/ the awesome tattoos) is swoony goodness! And Mackenna… she’s a tough cookie.
Also, we get to visit w/ our favorite characters from Trucker & Dancer, and fall in love with the little town of Tolson right along w/ Jimmy & Mack. I absolutely ADORED this story – it’s a favorite & will join its brothers on my re-read shelf. : )
‘Dropout’ is the third book in ‘The good guys’ series and just like the other two books in this new adult book series I enjoyed this story very much. Jimmy was the perfect mix of a good guy with a bad boy look (with his tattoos and piercings) but with a gentle heart underneath and who also wasn’t afraid to fight to protect his love ones. He’s just a swooning combination of things that I love in a guy. Mackenna was more cautious, not very social but she also had a gentle heart, only that heart has been hurt in the past so it’s more guarded. So Jimmy had to try very hard for her to trust him.
I loved the interaction between Mackenna and Jimmy, how Jimmy tried to get a reaction out of Mackenna, what he did to try to gain her trust. And the side characters in the story certainly created a few funny moments (Jimmy’s grandmother Beverly was something special). For the readers who have read the previous books in this series, they will see some familiar faces again but if you haven’t read them, don’t worry. You don’t have to read them to read this book.
The story is told from both POV’s. ‘Dropout’ is an easy to read new adult story with very little drama in it. It does have a hunky good guy in it and a withdrawn girl who is waiting for that one guy that can show her that love doesn’t have to hurt but can be something wonderful.
I enjoyed this story and I’m looking forward to reading more stories in this series.
I loved this story so much!! It’s well-written, it is FUN, and it is SO good! I easily fell in love with these characters. Jimmy…tattoos, piercings, bad boy with a heart of gold?? Yes. Please. The chemistry between Mackenna and him was super hot and their banter was very entertaining.
I loved loved loved the appearances of the characters from books 1 & 2! Especially Beverly. Coolest Grandma ever. <3
So many laughs, lots of sexy moments, and a story that I won't forget. My favorite of the series! I highly recommend this book!
In this third book in this series, we follow Jimmy and Mackenna’s story. It is told in alternating POV which I absolutely love. I love the sweet, sexy, funny and sad moments in this story. I am falling in love with all the characters in this series. This is a great story and I love the development of the characters from start to finish. Definitely recommend this book and series.
LOVED this book!! Jamie did an amazing job!
This series just keeps getting better and better!
Jimmy said no girls for his summer helping his grandmother. He didn’t expect to meet the girl next door. Will all his plans to get back on track go up in flames?
Mackenna was happy keeping to herself. A visit to the neighbors house has her meeting piercings….errr Jimmy. 😉 Will Mackenna be able to keep her quiet life or will she fall for the guy next door?
<3 <3 Can not wait to see what is next to come from Jamie and her Good Guys!!
First and foremost it must be said… Jimmy is mine and I don’t share. Sorry not sorry, but even Jamie agrees that Jimmy belongs to me.
To say I enjoyed Dropout would be an understatement. When it landed on my kindle, I just couldn’t wait to start this next book in the Good Guy series. And Jamie doesn’t let us down with this stunning book with its spellbinding storyline, strong heroine, and sexy hero. Right from the start I knew I wouldn’t be able to put this book down.
The chemistry between Jimmy and Mackenna is tremendous. I love how Jimmy works his way into Mackenna’s heart a little at a time. He senses there is more to her than what she wants to show him. It just goes to show that Jimmy is most definitely a good guy.
Giving everything that has happened to Mackenna in her past, I admire her ability to carry one. She’s a lot stronger then she gives herself credit for.
And boy does Jamie bring the sexiness! It gets hot, hot, hot! Jimmy always delivers every dirty, naughty promise he whispers in your ear. I all flushed just remembering it all.
Dropout is by far my favorite book from Jamie thus far. It’s brilliantly written filling with friendship, hope, love, heart, and soul. And I highly recommend you read this phenomenal book, however while you are swooning for Jimmy, don’t forget that Jimmy is mine.
