How you turned my world you precious thing. Review of Droknina.
I would first like to thank BOOKSIRENS.COM as well as the author for providing me a free advanced copy of this book in exchange for a voluntary review.
In this second installment of the Ghondatha saga where the first ended. Sophora has agreed to be Gideon’s consort and accepts Lord Gideon’s “Kiss” to regain his memories. The ceremony begins and Lord Gideon gives Sophorna his “Kiss” however, it begins to go terribly wrong for Sophorna when she realizes Gideon is not stopping. He can not stop and has been physically pulled away by his guests from Sophorna before she is empty of blood and dies. Lord Gideon realizes what he has done and is ashamed. He locks himself away and refuses to feed on Sophorna again which leads to him hurting himself. You will have to read the learn more.lol. This book is a little slow starting at first however, not for long. It zips along soon after making it just as good as the first. I love this book though. I love that it picked it right were Ghondatha ended making the transition easy and smooth. The characters were just as great and interesting. I love the slow-burn romance. I loved how Lord Gideon’s and Sophorna’s love evolves into something beautiful and so pure. It made me cry. I can not wait to read the third. I will be looking out for it on AMAZON.COM. I wish I had more stars to give it. Lol.
It wasn’t really a surprise that I’d enjoy this one after how much I liked reading the first. What I didn’t realize is just how interesting the story was about to get! I love the author’s ability to get into her characters’ heads and really bring their thoughts and emotions to life on the page! I loved seeing Saphrona and Gideon connection strengthen in this one, as well as seeing the challenges they faced from the other characters and forces in play.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
As the book opens, we see Saphrona prepare for her upcoming consort ceremony where she will receive the first Kiss that will allow her and Gideon to recover his memories. If you read the first book, you know that Saphrona faces opposition with some of the higher-ups of the Vampiri. Before the ritual begins, she decides that she must make a stand as a part of it and speaks bluntly but truthfully to them. Unfortunately for her, a seemingly entranced Gideon overfeeds during the Kiss, and she is nearly killed, for which he feels much guilt. But during the experience, she had a profound connection to him that she enjoyed despite what was happening to her body. In this special embrace, they both relive some of Qyva and Gideon’s past. Saphrona comes to understand better his Need for her.
What form will this new relationship take? Of what significance is the past that is revealed to them through it? What secrets is Gideon still keeping? What will happen with the dissent within the Vampiri?
As I did of the first book, I enjoyed reading this rich and complex world created by the author. She does a fantastic job getting into Saphrona’s head. You feel like you can truly comprehend her disorientation, her fear, and her desire to stay connected during the first Kiss. Similarly, we can truly sense Gideon’s fear, self-loathing, and desires throughout the book.
This second book of the series should be read after the first; I would not consider it a standalone. If you enjoyed that book, you will most likely like this one as well, as it gives you further information not only about the future of the characters but answer questions that were posed in the last book.
