I love reading Old West novels. I had a hard time putting the book down when I needed to.
Drifting from Deadwood by Ramona Flightner is the final book in The Pioneer Brides of Rattlesnake Ridge series. I thought is was well-written and it progressed at a nice steady pace which made for an easy to read and engaging book. It can be read as a standalone if you have not had a chance to read the rest of the books in the series. I liked that Eleanor was a strong woman with an independent streak. She has a ranch to run and two young boys to raise. Eleanor is thankful to have her friend, Zeke O’Neill as the foreman, but he is getting on in years and unable to make the needed repairs to the ranch. Unfortunately, thanks to a gossipmonger in town, there are rumors that Zeke is more than a friend and is the actual person running Broken Pine Ranch. Lance Gallagher is a man running from the past (that never works). He responds to Eleanor’s ad for help and quickly begins making much needed repairs. Eleanor’s two sons, Peter and Simon instantly take to Lance who begins instructing them. Lance and Eleanor each have issues that are holding them back. They will have to overcome them if they are to get their happily-ever-after. I was happy to see an epilogue that nicely wrapped up the story. This was the first book I have read by Ramona Flightner and I look forward to reading more of her works in the future. Drifting from Deadwood is a sweet historical romance with drama, action, romance and humor.
Eleanor’s ranch is struggling because some men won’t work for a woman and there are rumors that she cheated on her husband and caused his death. Lance is a drifter who lost his wife and child. He’s looking for work and a place to belong when he signs on to be her ranch hand. A neighbor makes thing difficult by hiring off her worker, damming up her river, and causing other troubles around her ranch to try to force her to marry him. Her two boys got into pranks and mischief, but they were willing to help out once she let them. This was a second chance at love for both Eleanor and Lance.
A wonderful story!

This was such a wonderful story and Ramona is a new author to me! I enjoyed the book tremendously and this entire series! I feel like I know this little town and it’s interesting people! I don’t remember reading about the newspaperman’s marriage, so I hope that’s in a future book!
It truly amazes me how some people survived during this time frame.. We should be grateful for our modern inventions and not complain about what we don’t have. I can’t imagine getting stitches in my head without being numbed, this coming from a mother of 3 boys n having had stitches in my head myself. Peter was lucky, but YIKES the pain! Thank goodness for Doc Gracie!Peter’s accident scared his little brother Simon who was with him, boys will be boys, as their mama Eleanor learns, even or especially with her life experiences.
With help from Mrs. Watson, Zachariah, eventually towns folk from Rattlesnake Ridge (dang I just love Reverend and Mrs Brown), the awesome Lance, life still has it’s ups and downs, but together they get thru day by day.
This story contains suspense, hope, danger, learning to depend on someone and of course romance.
It is a book that you can’t put down.
The characters are so well written and multifaceted.
The plot has numerous twists and turns that make it an amazing story.
Drifting From Deadwood is the last in the series The Pioneer Brides from Rattlesnake Ridge and an exciting story. Eleanor Fergerson is a widow with tow young sons running a ranch her gambling husband won in a card game. Lance Gallagher a drifter willing to work for room and board is hired to help on the ranch and encourages Eleanor’s sons to help on the ranch. The boys are delightful, sweet and love the male influence. The neighboring ranch owner wants Eleanor’s ranch and takes to courting her but doesn’t take no for an answer. This is an exciting suspenseful story with a HEA ending. I received this book as an arc for an honest review of it.
Plagued by malicious gossip and pursued by a determined man who wants her ranch, Eleanor has to overcome emotional obstacles beyond the ordinary difficulties of running a ranch as a widow with two small boys. Her foreman and good friend stands by her, but that just adds fuel to the fire. Lance Gallagher’s arrival at her ranch brings a new level of hope, that is after she has settled her mistrust for the stranger. This well-written romance brings to life the difficulties of running a ranch as well as being a woman on her own. Regardless of the era, the same difficulties have persisted through the ages. I loved Lance as the hero of this novel as he recognised Eleanor’s need for affirmation and he showed her the respect she needed. However, he wasn’t blind to the fact that she needed a hand with both the ranch and the upbringing of her two small boys. Eleanor’s determination almost cost her a second shot at finding love, however, a potential tragedy opens her eyes to the truth. I have enjoyed all the books in this series and this clean, standalone romance is no exception. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
I received an ARC and the opinions and views are my own. What a wonderful quick read with an excellent plot and good characters. Eleanor must learn to trust again but then so does Lance, they both have their secrets and sorrows. I enjoyed when Zachariah and Lance throw Sterling Hayden off the property. Would recommend this book to all who love historical western romances.
Feel good story about a woman trying to hang onto her ranch after her gambler husband dies. She gets help from Lance Gallagher, who is kind to her 2 boys. He is wandering after the death of his wife and child. Time and trust are what is need for these two to get together
Eleanor is trying to save her ranch when a drifter answers her ad for the job. This was such a wonderful story and I loved that the female is the one who is in need of help and the man comes in to help. I really enjoyed this author and her writing and it made the series that much more special.
I really enjoyed this last book in this series. This is the first book I have read by Ramona Flightner and I enjoyed her writing style.
I liked how this book focused on hope, love, and second chances. Elanor Ferguson’s husband died two years ago while gambling. Eleanor’s character for this time period was a great part of the story and why I enjoyed the story so much. I liked that she ran the ranch that her husband had won and if it were not for her he would have gambled the ranch away.
I also really liked Lance. It was interesting to find out about his life prior to arriving in Rattlesnake Ridge, Nevada. The book was full of action and tense moments and heartache. It is a great story that I would enjoy reading again. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Eleonor Fergusson is struggling with her Ranch after her husband death. She has her friend Zachariah, her two sons and Mrs Wagner to help her with everything, it it’s not enough. When she advertise in the newspaper that an aide is needed, Lance Gallagher, a lonely cowboy take the job to reshape the Ranch and probably reshape their lives in order to find happiness and love again.
Drifting from Deadwood (The Pioneer Brides of Rattlesnake Ridge Book 6) by Ramona Flightner
Through the author’s skillful writing ability, Ramona Flightner transports us back to the historical western town of Rattlesnake Ridge, Nevada, in 1887.
The well-developed characters come alive as we meet the local town residents including the town’s founder and mayor, the general store owner, the deputy sheriff and his wife, and the reverend and his wife. The funniest character is the reverend’s wife. When upset with someone at church, she invites them to tea and talks. The talks are straight to the point!!
A widow, Eleanor Ferguson, with the help of her ranch foreman Zac and her cook Mrs. Wagner, is struggling to keep her ranch. She is raising her two boys alone.
Lance Gallagher, a roaming cowboy sees her ad for a ranch hand. He is hired and through his skills with horses and the ability to make needed repairs improves the ranch greatly.
As they work together will Eleanor and Lance become more than just friends?
This book series (The Brides of Rattlesnake Ridge) is quite interesting as each book has been written by a different author. They have all used the town and its different characters introducing them in the various books and continuing their stories in the town in other books. I have found this series most enjoyable. I have received this as an ARC read. I have given my opinion and review as most favorable on this book.
Drifting from Deadwood is a story of recovery from past disappointments and pain.
Eleanor, is a wonderful strong character, even though her life has been anything but easy. Betrayed by her husband, then left a widow with two young sons, she feels she will never know love again. Then Lance arrives on the scene and joins on as her ranch hand. Lance and Eleanor have a growing attraction which both of them try to deny. Lance is carrying around his own pain from his haunting past.
The characters were very believable, and I connected with them right away. The young boys were spunky and humorous at times. They were typical boys full of energy and pranks.
The storyline was immersed with forgiveness, new found trust and love. The ending was great. Can’t wait to read the next one.
I received a copy from Net Galley and voluntarily chose to review it.
A wonderful second chance story of a widow fighting to keep her ranch and the drifter answering her ad for work. Amid gossip in town, an uncouth neighbor vying for her hand in marriage to get her land, her boys and she fall in love with Luke. Luke needs to open up and share his feelings with Eleanor and allow a relationship to blossom. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
This book gives us new friends and reacquaints us with ones we already know. I love Romana Flightner’s characters. She depicts both the good and the bad sides of people. Everyone has a little of both and she is able to bring strong female characters without emasculating the men in her book. This is the first book I’ve read by her and I am looking forward to others.
This is the final book in the series. They are all good stories. This one was happy, sad, and hold your breath exciting. I wish there were more coming and I am not a reader of historicals. I will look for more from all these authors.
I enjoyed Eleanor and Lance story a lot.
The story is well written.
Amazing book!! Full of mishaps and adventures that unexpected. Kept me on edge of seat. Joy to read!!!
