Romance with all the swoon, sweetness to die for, and a deliciously sexy alpha Drift has all that and more. Right from the prologue that had me gasping and through every page this book kept me hooked start to finish. I melted at the sweetness. I was swept off my feet by Carter and his love for Billie. I just really freaking loved this book. Carter and Billie have one of those loves that is immediate. The kind that comes out of nowhere and changes their whole worlds. The kind that takes you away while your reading and feels your heart with happiness. That kind of instalove goodness all packed into a book with a gripping story.
Carter is a man that will have everyone screaming “MINE!” This bada*$ security provider also hides a gentle heart behind his tragic past. The second he lays eyes on Billie he’s a goner. Billie is a sweetheart with a tragic past of her own. Determined to make her dreams come true and make her mother proud she works her butt off never giving up. To say these two were perfect together is an understatement. Like two halves of a whole they fit together so beautifully.
Drift is the 2nd book in the Guarding Her Series. It looks like there are going to be 5 books in this series. Each of these books can be read as a standalone. This is the second book that I have read by Anna Brooks and I think she likes writing insta-love romances. Because Drift is another insta-love book.
Billie’s mother sent Billie away from her home because her dad beat on her and her mother. Her mother stayed behind because that was the only way she could save Billie.
Billie has now been surviving for a few years now and she meets Carter. I hate to say more because then I would be giving more of the story away.
Drift is an enjoyable book to read. I can’t wait to read more in the Guarding Her Series. I give Drift 4 stars.
Carter puts the A in Alpha
When Anna Brookes brings you an Alpha, she doesn’t hold back lol…
Carter Cane is a former surfer boy turned security guard and holy hell does he bring Alpha to a whole new level! The boy harbors a lot of guilt over the death of his last girlfriend and he is just not in the place to give himself to anyone. That is until Billie Bishop comes walking into his life, then all bets are off. The moment he sets eyes on her, he knows she is different, and he has to have her. And have her he does…..
Billie is a sweet, naive girl who has had an awful life until she got away. She is just living her life the best she can, never taking her second chance for granted. Then out of nowhere Carter Cane steam rolls his way into her heart and the girl is just done for. I love the way Carter loves on Billie and takes care of her!
These two were a great addition to this series and I loved them! If you love insta love with a dash of drama and some angst, this is the read for you. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Brookes brings to us next.
Drift by Anna Brooks is book Two in the Guarding Her series. This is the story of Billie Bishop and Carter Cane. I have read the previous book but feel this was easily a standalone book.
Billie grew up in abusive home where her mother did what she could but Billie became able to take care of herself. When her mother helped her to leave she did so and is still taking care of herself while trying to break into acting. Carter has a instant attraction to Billie just as she does. Billie does have a hard time giving her trust after the life she has. Carter is a man that loves to take care of his women and protect her.
I enjoyed reading their story and hope to read more books in this series!
Absolutely LOVED this book. I had been hesitant starting the first book in the series, but was hooked by the end. This book perfectly portrayed a ‘Broken Alpha’ who bounced back by the end. SO well written. New favorite author!
KU. DNF. I barely gave “Surface” 3 stars, but thought I’d continue and that maybe it was “first in the series” issues AND was looking to get to “Roam” with Noble/Brinley. . But it’s apparent this author isn’t really for me. There’s insta-lust, alpha-because-I-say-so, naive ultra young heroines… and it most of it feels like I’m being told instead of shown.
Maybe I’ll just skip to Roam and see if my love for May/December makes up for an author’s style mismatch.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about this author. So I was excited to be able to finally read a book by her. Unfortunately, that excitement didn’t last too long.
Billie comes from a rough childhood and seems to find trouble every which way she turns. Carter on the other hand had a devastating experience a couple of years ago that shaped who he is today. It seems as if it is love at first sight for both characters. But Billie being who she is, is skeptical. Over time there relationship blooms and so does their love.
The book left me wanting more and not in a good way. I felt as if the story-line was rushed and I couldn’t really connect with the characters. I didn’t feel invested in the story like I normally am. The major climaxes in the book felt like little humps instead of being made to be big issues like they are in the real world. I encourage everyone to read the book and to form their own opinions. But for me this book was just not for me. – By Vanessa
