Set in 1818 the Earl of St. Clair had an accident on his horse with a carriage in the middle of a storm and late at night. He found the carriage and all but 1 were killed. The survivor was Lady Caroline Sloane who was gravely injured. He helped her as best he could, but he was also injured. It took a week for anyone to find them. Hopefully she was not ruined as they were engaged, but not to each other.

This book is a wonderful story! Full of trepidation and love it is beyond amazing.
I own a copy of this book.
Caroline and Alan meet in an unusual way, the end up trapped in a cabin until outside help can rescue them. They each take care of one another, whether it’s cleaning up cuts and scrapes, cooking or hunting for food. They get to know each other as the days pass by and end up talking about things they normally would not.
When rescue comes, they know that what they experienced opened up their feelings, however, nothing can come of it, since someone else has been promised to each of them.
Ms. Sookoo writes from the heart, you can feel the emotions come through in the writing, her characters are both heartwarming and loved how she took the storyline to the ending of the book. You can tell how much research is done because of how the details come to life.
I was biting my nails getting to the end of the story, how was this going to work out, well this author did an amazing job getting us there, and no I won’t spoil it, you’ll have to read it for yourself.
This is the first book in a new series and it is off to a great start! I have recently discovered Sandra Sookoo’s books and I was excited when she came out with this new series. It is such a lovely story. Alan and Caroline are such an endearing couple, you can’t help but fall in love with them. Despite being injured himself, Alan takes such good care of Caroline after an accident until she regains consciousness. They start to develop a beautiful friendship which blossoms into love, however, they are already promised to others. This is a story that will definitely pull at your heartstrings and you will surely need a box of tissues while reading this! You will definitely be reading this one well into the night wanting to find out how it ends. Great book and wonderful start to a new series!

Sandra took a “trapped in a cabin” story and put a twist on it because they were also fighting for survival and complete strangers tossed together. I was emotional from the start with the carriage accident since we got to know all the passengers and the details of it were haunting. They not only learn about each other while trapped but also about themselves. The spark between them is always there and you can see it getting hotter with each passing day until it finally ignites and then you will need a fan for those scenes. They are such as passionate couple and I was actually sad when they were rescued because the emotions of going back to their lives were so raw.
I cried when everything came full circle and their families’ true intentions showed. The wedding scene had me balling my eyes out because the emotions from everyone were nothing like I expected. I didn’t want it to end and had a major book hangover. This book will stay with me forever.
Caroline is my twin and all-time favorite heroine. Her tongue has a mind of its own and she says many wicked things. She doesn’t hesitate when she decides what she wants and grows into such a strong woman throughout the story. I loved that she didn’t play games or act silly about things.
Alan is one of those heroes that to the outside world he is a rake and hides his feelings, but with Caroline the true Alan shines through. He has such an upbeat attitude that could come off as not caring to some, but you have to love him. Even when he made a mess of things you still will love him. I loved how easily he opened up to her and how strong he became. He reminds me so much of my boyfriend.
I can’t wait for the next book in this series and see it becoming a favorite series!
Relaxing Read
The storyline was well written, the plot flowed smoothly from page to page and the characters were created with such great detail and depth that I was totally engaged throughout the entire book!
England 1818
“This is the most insufferable trip I’ve ever undertaken.” Thus were the thoughts of Miss Caroline Sloane as she looked out the window of the mail coach with the rain pouring. She was on her way to be married to a man she did not know. Little did she know that trip was about to become an adventure. Well, maybe not at first but….
Alan, the Earl of St Clair was trying to deal with being forced to marry or be cut off by is father. Lady Mary Tennant would help merge their estates and his father had decided it would be her. But Alan found himself contemplating a marriage without love. With the death of his mother, he had never felt that feeling from others. It was a lonely life but knew that was what he was bred for…. He had been at a house party with his good friend Rutledge but he had to leave for London. With the foul weather he decided riding a fast house would be better than a carriage.
What happens next really broke my heart. With it being so dark and muddy, the carriage collided with Alan on his horse and they all ended up going over the ravine.
I think this may be one of Sandra Sookoo’s best stories yet as far as intense and soul searching, although with that said, I have truly enjoyed her writing from the first story I ever read.
These two souls met to help heal each other and the basics of Alan’s life was laid bare. Such an emotional, wonderfully satisfying story. Cannot wait for more!
This is the 1st book I’ve read written by Sandra Sookoo; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the chemistry between the characters.

Is this a love that will blossom as they learn to survive or will it wilt as time passes? They each have to step out of their comfort zones if they want to be able to nurture a possible relationship.

What a Story!!
It is not often that I say this, but this is a very unusual Regency. But in a good way! It certainly brought all the feels. Those of us who love the subgenre usually appreciate that the stories are often similar. We love the silly tropes typical to Regency; we love to immerse ourselves in a world so wholly different from our own. I knew from reading the book description that this would be one of those “caught in a cabin” stories. I have read a number of those over the years, but this was one of the more unusual of that ilk. They weren’t merely stuck in a cabin. They were fighting for survival after a terrible accident. The author has done a good job showing what was precisely happening for the hero and heroine before the accident. In fact, we got to know the carriage passengers rather well, which made the accident itself an emotional experience. We cared about these characters and wanted them to get to their destination and on to the rest of their lives. The hero and heroine were both greatly injured in the accident, and it took fortitude and hard work on both their parts just to survive. Yes, this is definitely a book where you need a tissue or two as you read along. The time in the cabin is romantic, even while they are trying to survive and mend from their injuries. They certainly learn a lot about each other in this forced time together. When things aren’t looking so good for them in the end, I couldn’t help but want them to figure out how to be together. I found the ending to be satisfying on several levels, and I hope the captain gets his own book because I think he will make a great hero. If you enjoy different Regency romances that pull at the heartstrings, you may very well enjoy this book.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Book one in the Colors of Scandal series a well written story that I know I will be reading again. A product of his station.
Alan is 35, has a mistress and is still very much under his father’s thumb. He’s only now beginning to question his worth. He’s very much a product of his station. Oh, the problems of a male in the ton. Oh, and he fully expects to keep his mistress after he weds the spoilt girl his father picked out for him.
Caroline’s father was cut off after he wed below his station. Now her grandfather wants to marry her off to a sea captain.
Their course is changed after a coach accident and they are forced in a situation where they have to rely on each other with only what they have. So, extenuating circumstances. That’ll reveal their real personalities.
Dressed in White is the first book in the Colors of Scandal series and is a wonderful Regency romance.
This is a beautiful story with characters who capture your heart with the hope that they can be together even though they are each betrothed to another. They go through a tragic accident, injuries, surviving in a cottage in Cornwall, and must return to reality torn apart by duty.
I loved this book and can’t wait for the next one in the series!
I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
This is the story of Caroline and Alan. They are both destined for an arranged marriage that neither of them wants. They’ve only met their betrotheds once a long time ago. On their way for the arrangement, a terrible accident happens that will change both of them. I enjoyed this historical romance. I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Lady Caroline is on her way to her grandfather’s house because of the arranged marriage he made with a sea captain when the carriage she was in collided with a horse rider killing everyone expect her and Alan, Earl of St. Clair, which is on his way to meet the woman his father arranged his marriage with. They are both injured and find shelter from the storm in a abandoned cottage. This their sweet story and how the relationship developed. Will they manage to wed each other or will they be bound by the arrangement their family made?
I have come to eagerly anticipate reading any book from Sandra Sookoo!! Her characters have so much depth and personality to them that they actually seem to come to life within the pages! The depiction of the horrible accident between a mail-coach and a rider on his horse coming from the opposite direction during a blinding rainstorm was so incredibly vivid!! I had always wondered somewhat, just how people could be severely injured or even die instantly in a carriage accident, but Ms. Sookoo brings us a portrayal of just such an accident and I was able to visualize it and now understand how things easily happened in that time period! I loved both characters and their strengths during their days of survival while waiting to be rescued, or find their own way out and back to civilization! Both Caroline and Alan were immediately likable and I was rooting for them both to find the joy of a HEA! Preferably with each other!! They both have impending marriages to individuals that they have only briefly met, much less actually know! What a dilemma! How is everything worked out in the end? Read and find out!!
The only thing that seemed too far fetched was the ability that Alan seemed to have to do all of the physically taxing things he did with a heavily sprained ankle and the virtual overnight recovery made by Caroline after having been punctured in the abdomen by a piece of debris during the carriage accident while also never displaying any repercussions from a head injury that had been severe enough to give her a concussion! Then there was the use of medical terminology and procedures that are common to us in this day and age but were not at all understood in any detail if they had even been discovered by then in that time period! Those were minor issues though and did not spoil my overall enjoyment of this book!!

What fate can bring together with Mother Nature help.
What a dismal trip for Caroline rain day after day and what does she have to look forward to but an arranged marriage to a sea captain. Alan Blackmore, the Earl of St. Clair is also on a journey having been summoned to the Devon estate by his father the duke. Neither of these characters are happy souls. Then fate stepped in and things got dangerous, interesting, engaging, and it made for a hard to put down tale. I loved the ending tears and smiles truly this was an enjoyable book. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This is a great historical romance. Caroline and Alan are in a terrible accident that has other fatalities. Forced to survive until help arrives what will happen between the two?
