Sierra has always been the person who was fascinated by movie monsters of a bygone era. So much so that as she got older she’d gotten tattoo’s of many of those. For some reason Sierra, almost connected to them in more then just flesh. This is NOT a boring book, there are times that your right along side of the characters in this book and this was terrifying to me. She had dreams as a young girl/woman of things that a person could say “go bump in the night” But something changes while working on a boat sailing with others and the weather changes. From then on the point of view is from Sierra and another. But please please please give this book a real chance to hook you and pull you into it, because it will do that.
Reading this book gave me Jurassic Park meets Twilight Zone meets all my favorite type of B-rated horror movies type of vibes.
I won’t lie, the beginning part of this was hard to get into. It did seem to drag. But trust me, keep going. The beginning is necessary to build up just who Sierra aka Monster Girl is.
10 year old Sierra is an adventurous kind of girl who has fallen in love with monsters, whether they’re one’s she’s read in books or bringing to life the towns mythological monster. At a young age she fell in love with Boylan’s monsters that he brought to life and is determined to create her own personal monster.
As the story progresses and Sierra is now a 20/21 year old she’s still a monster love and just as adventurous. While on the island, Sierra discovers her destiny and powers she hadn’t known she had.
The story progresses quite amazing and the descriptions and world building this author is able to portray is an amazing feat and makes for a great reading experience.
Sierra is 10 years old and is obsessed all things monsters. Books or movies she’s reading or watching it. Will her knowledge of these little buggers who are real be enough to survive?
I’ll admit it took me a bit to get through this book than normal. I had to take breaks. I do read a few Sci-fi books and they can be tedious and sometimes over my head. I wouldnt say this was over my head but a little with the technical jargon. For anyone who doesn’t read Sci-fi would probably have difficulty and not be able to finish out of frustration…no offense. There were a bit that confused me and thats the only part that made it not great for me. Thats just something authors need to take into account to draw in readers but its their work and they ultimately choose how it comes together. Otherwise, it was written really well. I enjoyed it and its very unique which I like…just dont necessarily need the fancy words I more than likely dont know :).
