When a Jane Doe is found in a suitcase, amateur sleuth Baxley Powell tries to identify the woman and her killer. A local woman vanishes, and Baxley fears the kidnapped woman will end up in a suitcase. Using normal and paranormal senses, Baxley matches wits with a cunning adversary.
This was my first introduction to Dreamwalker series and it was nice to jump in without feeling left out. The story delivered depth of character, believable magical realism, along with a stellar plot. I’m a new and dedicated fan.
“…’He values his honor over truth’…’Honor is very important in my culture as well’…’This career and my heritage have taught me another lesson…There are many colors of truth.”…’So it’s OK to rationalize if we make poor decisions?’ ‘That’s not okay. Honor is about being true to your beliefs. Wayne believes in you. He wants to keep you around. He made the call to protect you…’”
Baxley Powell, owner of Pets and Plants, single mother, dreamwalker. In this, the sixth in the series, Baxley and Sam Mayes- her boyfriend- find themselves coming out of a dreamwalk [that I certainly hope is talked about in book 5 because it sounds like it was something] and the “perpetrator”-Rose: Bax’s contact in the spirit realm, can’t be found to ask why. Quickly, they find themselves in the middle of “the suitcase Murders” and the work Baxley does could not only find the killer but save his latest victim.
Dreamwalker novels such as this one, (and the Mae Martin series of author Amber Foxx) fascinate me, especially when they are written so well. I could have easily “binged” my way through this book which I won in a giveaway a few months ago, but instead, tried to take my time reading it, and enjoyed every minute. This may be my first Maggie Toussaint, but it will not be my last. Highly Recommended 5/5

A thrilling mystery written so real you can believe anything is possible.
Dreamwalking is so much more than being psychic. For Baxley Powell and now boyfriend, Deputy Sam Mayes, things are soon to become more strange and involved as things happen quickly and a larger groups of crimes and law enforcement groups become involved. There is a serial killer on the loose, or could it be copy-cats? Can they find a killer and prevent more deaths? What is going on with Rose, Bax’s other worldly guide and tormentor?
You won’t figure out how all the puzzle pieces fit until the end… but wait! There is more.
I very much enjoy this series.
It is just enough “out there” while still being grounded in a familiar reality.
The characters are developing nicely (believably) with each story.
This one was particularly creepy with so many women being the victims and the manner of their deaths.
The final countdown was hair raising.
Baxley Powell and her boyfriend, Sam Mayes, face a new case that tests their future together. A suitcase serial killer is on the loose, and a young woman is missing. Are the incidents related? Baxley’s Dreamwalker powers help her see through the girl’s eyes. Kitty is still alive but in a fragile condition. Can they find her in time before the killer’s plan comes to its chilling conclusion? Meanwhile, Baxley and Mayes have a secret of their own to hide from local law enforcement. As time goes by, they risk exposure even as they race to recover Kitty before she becomes the killer’s next victim. Dreamed It is a suspenseful page-turner that you won’t be able to put down.
