“What would happen if I just kept driving?”
Moms aren’t supposed to have a life of their own, at least that’s what Becca Thompson believes. Between dealing with her youngest’s never ending tantrums, her teenager’s attitude and her ailing father’s rapidly failing memory, Becca doesn’t have time to worry about who she used to be.
Deep down, Becca knows she wants more than the daily chaos and the … daily chaos and the quick fixes her self-help books have to offer, but when her husband starts demanding more, the pressure proves to be too much. On the way to pick up her daughter, she makes the split second decision to take a different exit off the freeway and drives towards the mountains leaving her crumbling life in the rear-view mirror.
Fleeing to a remote mountain town, Becca knows she must rediscover her spirit, even if reconnecting with herself comes at the expense of everything she left behind.

It was an easy to read book, but it kept my interest. It didn’t turn out quite how I thought, which is fine. Overall I could identify with the woman and liked the book
too close to home with grandsons being too selfish
I could not stand the main character. I wanted to slap her for what I saw as selfish when she could have easily made it so much better. Lots of us have many responsibilities but there has to be a balance for one’s sanity.
This book is something I believe most mothers would agree with but maybe not out loud. You have a husband working all the time, dealing with a female teenager and then a young 5 year old that seems to do nothing but scream. Becca has gained weight over the years and has a horrible imagine of herself so she doesn’t want sex with her husband even …
This is a fairly good book, but some of the story I felt was not very believable. I think the author is good and I will try another book to see.
Very relatable feelings any mother can go through. There were many times I wanted to run away. Ending was unexpected and I didn’t find closure
Real life in your face. Slow to get into, but worth reading.
Interesting story line, good read
amidst the chaos of daily living, it is important to find time for yourself.
A little annoying at times, due to bratty kids and clueless husband, but enjoyable seeing how things progressed.
I didn’t care for the plot. It seemed unrealistic to me.
The characters were very well written. Although I didn’t like the premise of the book and didn’t agree with the main character’s actions I did enjoy reading the book. The whole time I was reading I kept wishing Becca would have made different choices. Different roads for different folks I guess.
I loved this book and can’t wait to read more from this author.
Imagine running away, the dream of many young mothers, but when you do, life takes on strange twists and eye opening experiences. The was an original and a must read.
We all have days where we think about just getting in the car and driving. Whether it’s just to sort out our life, get away from the rat race or to follow a dream. I did a similar adventure only my family knew about it (and weren’t too happy about it). I also didn’t drive, I boarded a plane and left the country. I came back a stronger person. …
Loved it
Such a realistic portrayal of an exhausted mom dealing with kids and losing herself in the midst of it all.
Great escape
Easy read. Some character rapid transition from stable to outrage seemed a stretch as well as dialog between main character and others. Repeated dialog may have been included to reinforce intent but completely unnecessary and made me wonder who edited the book.
Very difficult to get through but well worth the effort and the tissues.
