We survived the land of the Witch’s Reign, that much is true. But our arrival home is far from welcome. My idiot brother has taken it upon himself to ride off in search of a mythical healer, someone who might help him walk again. Assuming she doesn’t eat him first. Because she’s a dragon and happens to reside in the deepest reaches of the Dragon’s Ground. Like I said, idiot.I’d go after him … go after him myself, but his leave-taking is not the only problem I face. My mentor has forbidden me to leave the safety of the Stockyards. Her reasoning?
That I am too weak to weather the coming storms.
With my pride wounded in more ways than one, I must gather the few allies’ I have left. My ex-husband’s new girlfriend at the top of the list and a goat bleating Satyr.
FML.
If I’m lucky I’ll find a small dragon and a Jinn whose blue eyes still haunt my dreams along the way.
Buckle up, buttercup, this ride is about to take a seriously unforeseen twist.

Dragon’s Ground starts a few days after the end of Witch’s Reign. Zam, Lila, and Maks are together again for more supernatural thrills, action, and adventure.
Zam, pulls me towards her character and I can relate to her. She’s the under dog, not feeling like she fits in, and fighting even when everyone says she can’t win. Her courage, her will, and her foul mouth just add to the story.
The world building is wonderful. We get depth and dimension. As for the story their is no shortage of danger. We get daring escapes, a few rescues, and a hunt for Zam’s brother and the jewel. The characters continue to develop and what happens will surprise you. The action is non-stop, the emotions are all over the place on this one, and we are treated to some very powerful moments for our heroine. I cried at the end.
Dragon’s Ground pulled me in and didn’t let go. I went out and picked up the next book in the series. Urban Fantasy fans will enjoy this unique world and characters.
Rated: 4 Stars
Shannon Mayer is one of my favorite authors. I’ve read everything that she’s written. I think this may be my favorite. I could barely put the book down. It is very action packed. As this is the second book in the series, we get to know the characters a little more. Yet there is still much we don’t know. Zam and Lila discover new aspects about themselves. There a few new characters that are introduced. This book holds more emotion for me than the first. It has stayed with me long after finishing it. I eagerly await the next installment.
Dragon’s Ground is the Second book in the Desert Cursed Series. It does a great job of progressing the series and making you love the characters you met in Witches Reign.
Shannon Mayer is such a great world builder, that you feel like you are there. And might want to stay. I don’t want to leave any spoilers, just know that all the favorites, those you loved and those you didn’t are there, and acting according to their nature. And have a Kleenex handy for the ending. Just Saying.
I love all things Shannon, but this series is her best work yet. Looking forward to the third installment.
We find Zamira chaffing at the bit to be off on this next adventure, and with Shannons love of story telling, she drags us into her next book, not kicking and screaming, but grinning with delight at what we know is going to make us laugh, cry, snort and have a hard time falling asleep, as we will not want to put this book down!
Shannon Mayer did it again. She always manages to surprise me with her books. I will think they are going one way and it changes direction. I love that Zam went after Bryce and he helped her. Lila was hilarious as usual. I love how protective Maks is but also lets her be what she needs to be. Zam is awesome with her creative cursing.
Tiny dragons, feline shifters, and boys making everything harder than it should be. Totally hooked on this series.
Just finished this 2nd book. If it wasn’t for the fact that my kindle is now worn out from reading Witches Reign and this one back to back, I’d already be into the 3rd! This book carries on in the fast paced, unpredictable fashion as the first, with many questions answered and new ones arising – like what is Zam, really? I’m ready for the 3rd book!
If the first book in the series hooked you, you’re in for a wild ride in Dragon’s Ground! After a short time in the beginning, all your favorite characters return, and it never ceases to amaze me how much depth Mayer can give her characters in a short period of time. The twists and turns in the second book keep you guessing till the very end. There’s so much mystery and intrigue that I truly wonder how everything will end when the series is wrapped up. There’s plenty of room for Mayer to take us through several paths to reach the conclusion, which keeps me that much more interested in this series when I wasn’t interested at all when hearing the original blurb and promotional catchphrases. We finally see more in what happened to Zam and also Max (to a degree), there’s more to Lila than meets the eye, and hope shines for Bryce for the first time in a decade. It truly is a high-flying adventure and I’m excited to see what comes next!
This book grabs you from the get go. ‘‘This is the 2nd book in the series but can be read as a stand alone. If you love dragons then this is a book you’ll love. Zamira, Maks and Lila are of different breeds (species) and as a trio they are a kicking butt team. Travel with them as they confront all forms of evil and vile adventures to achieve their goal of stealing from the dragons a priceless item. The first page is full of action and doesn’t change pace until the last page. Or does it?
I read the first book in this series a few months ago, and even though I liked it and liked the direction it was going, I didn’t love it. That all changed with this second book in the series. So many questions from the first book are answered, but still many more remain. But this book turned this series into a must read for me, it was full of action, twists and turns and allies coming from the most unusual places. There are new allies and new enemies, and Zam along with Maks, Lila and Balder will be in the thick of it again.
World building and character development is much stronger and the action scenes were non-stop. The author has tossed in a few twists that I didn’t see coming. If you didn’t fall in love with this trio in the first book, you may fall in this one. I can honestly say that I laughed, screamed (OK, not loud) and cried in this book and I can guarantee it won’t take me a few months to read book three.
I am blown away! I love how this book kept me on my toes from the very beginning. Zam goes through so many things, and learns so much about herself. I love how these characters are developing, I can’t wait to read/ listen to the next book! Lauren Fortgang’s performance is fantastic! I listened to the book on audible.
This second book is even more fun to read than the first. You really start to find out the deeper hidden truths. Zam finally starts to realize that everything she had been conditioned to think isn’t the whole truth. And Lila’s playful personality keeps you entertained.
Another great world by Shannon…I try to ration myself…because they go so quickly…I never get enough
Absolutely AMAZING action packed rollercoaster read!!! There’s no words enough to say how much I loved this second book of the fantastic series! Such a powerful inspirating story of supernatural world but so close to home! Love Zam, Lila and Maks!
It’s definitely a must read!
This poor girl does nothing but run from one mess to another. Shannon needs to give her a rest. Makes a great book, other then the passing of the lion. Shannon gives your heart lots of twists and turns. A must read series.
Good follow up to the first book in the series. Fast-paced, plenty of action, and great characters. Zamira takes off after her brother who is searching for a dragon healer to help him walk again. Great for fantasy lovers. Reading the first book in the series helps in understanding the story line and characters. Plus it’s a great book also!
Audiobook review: Oh my gosh this book is freaking awesome! Expect to be blown away when you’re pulled into Mayer’s amazing world created in the Desert Cursed series. Book 2, Dragon’s Ground, is packed with non-stop action with danger, obstacles, and questionable loyalties around every corner. The characters are fierce and the language is salty! I found myself laughing at scenes and yelling at characters as I traversed the exciting rollercoaster of a book. You’ll wish you could listen to the book in one setting. Ms. Fortgang did an excellent on narrating as always!

Ms. Mayer has another amazing series on her hands. If you are a fan of some of her other series: Venom, Rylee and Phoenix series then you will love this new series too. If you are new to Ms Mayer then this is a great place to start. Follow along in this alternate reality where gods, dragons, Jinn, and other things that go bang in the dark fight each other and the great wall that divides them from the rest of the world. You will laugh, cry, and scream. You will not want to put this book down.
Technical/Formatting: I read the book in the Mobi/Kindle version and found no issues with the formatting.
Story Line: Original with humor, action, one liners and heart pounding intrigue.
Character Development: With a great cast of characters and creatures you will quickly fall in love with these people and cheer for Zam and her team.
Grammar and Other Nit Picking: I found only a few spelling error and they were not so bad as to stop the story flow.
I cannot wait the next book in this series and in Ms Mayer’s future creations. Truly a great author.

I loved reading Dragon’s Ground… Zam is the most bravest of all the characters, then there is Lila.. the small and brave little dragon and Zam’s friend.
There is lots of adventure and surprises… After reading 1 page I as pulled into the plot of the story and enjoying Zam’s adventure to find her brother. Zam learns many secrets about the woman who took her and her brother in after pride were killed…
all in all is an awesome book to read.. in order to know what is happening you need to read the first book Witches Reign. Both are awesome reads…
I look forward to reading the next book that will complete Zam’s story…
Zamira is back and heading into trouble and danger once again. Ish has begun to change. That much was apparent when she returned after saving her friend Darcy, but didn’t reveal her possession of the sapphire she had reclaimed. Ish seems to be being driven by the very jewels that she sends them out to recover. When Zam learns that her brother Bryce has left to find a legendary healer she is floored and afraid. Why would he do this? He can barely get around on his own. Zamira is determined to go and rescue him but her despicable ex-husband is intent on keeping her from going with him. Regrettably, he’s not alone in this as Zamira quickly finds out. But if you think that’s going to stop her then you don’t know Zam. With the aid of a familiar weapon, sheer stubbornness and determination Zamira will break free and head to the Dragon’s Ground to save her brother, reclaim a gem and come into her own.
Dragon’s Ground is an epic triumph for Shannon Mayer in this second installment of the Desert Cursed Series. Zam is outstanding and she continues to grow as a character and I love it. She’s strong and she does make some dumb decisions here and there, but I’m glad that she has great friends to help her through. I have to say that I am loving this series. These books are so hard to put down! I mean, why would you even want to put these books down?! The storyline is amazing. The world-building is fantastic and you get a great mix of characters! Zam is absolutely the underdog and it’s heartbreaking to see all that she has to fight through in order to become whom she is meant to be. Honestly, there are a couple different ones I’d love to just smack. I love that characters who walked away are back. The author gives us more backstory and I absolutely ate it up. Of course she still is keeping a lot of secrets, but I don’t mind. The books are totally worth it.
There is nothing I hate about this book. I just hate that the author literally makes me burst into tears. Yeah, I cried. You will too. So grab some kleenex and keep them handy. You’ll thank me later. You’ll cry, then you’ll be riveted to the book and then you’ll cry some more. I couldn’t stand the heartbreak. Don’t worry it just helps to elevate the story and make it even more enjoyable. I have to say the author really puts Zam through the paces in this book. The curses that surround her are no joke.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book is fantastic! It’s a great story and if you read and enjoyed the first book you’ll love this one. Just don’t mind Steve. He’s still a dumb idiot. I’m honestly waiting on Karma to get him. Hahaha! The world building, story development is absolutely fantastic. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll cringe when you see Ish continue to fall. This book is fantastic and a must get for your library. I’ll absolutely be adding to mine!
