“In science fiction there is only a handful of books that stretch the mind—and this is one of them.”—Arthur C. Clarke In a moving story of sacrifice and triumph, human scientists establish a relationship with intelligent lifeforms—the cheela—living on Dragon’s Egg, a neutron star where one Earth hour is equivalent to hundreds of their years. The cheela culturally evolve from savagery to the … from savagery to the discovery of science, and for a brief time, men are their diligent teachers.
Praise for Dragon’s Egg
“Bob Forward writes in the tradition of Hal Clement’s Mission of Gravity and carries it a giant step (how else?) forward.”—Isaac Asimov
“Dragon’s Egg is superb. I couldn’t have written it; it required too much real physics.”—Larry Niven
“This is one for the real science-fiction fan.”—Frank Herbert
“Robert L. Forward tells a good story and asks a profound question. If we run into a race of creatures who live a hundred years while we live an hour, what can they say to us or we to them?”—Freeman J. Dyson
“Forward has impeccable scientific credentials, and . . . big, original, speculative ideas.”—The Washington Post

I was hoping everyone would shared equally .Was well done.I have recommend the book,to others.
Amazing storytelling. … just read it.
A wonderful SciFi of another world (a neutron star) with intelligent life evolving very quickly due to the presence for earthlings.
Dragon Egg was nothing of what I expected it to be, and I think that’s what made it so amazing. The world building of the development of the Cheela society is excellent and I think the author must have spent some time studying some of the key elements of the development of a civilization.
I strongly recommend this book for those who enjoy Hard …
Dragons egg is quite an amazing book that entails first contact between humans and an Alien species. No matter what you have in mind when you think about aliens, these are not it. The book is very technically written, excellent fast-moving story, excellent characters. It probably has the most original alien species that you can imagine. But you …
Very original concept and the science is very informative. Loved this book
Excellent hard science sci-fi. Robert Forward is a bona fide scientist and his story is full of plausible, if far out ideas. It’ll probably make the most sense to someone with a background in physics but any sci-fi fan can enjoy and learn from this story.
This book covers an odd situation that could possibly occur in the distant future. No one really knows how we would respond to first contact with a group from another planet. In this book there is what might be what could be called a turn of events. If you want to know what I mean then buy and read the book. I very much liked it.
An excellent read. Very thought-provoking while being entertaining and interesting. if I had had the time I probably would have read it in one sitting.
I’m not all that experienced at writing reviews, but will have a go for this book. I am a Robert L. Forward fan so buying this was a no brainer for me. The premise of the story is that two wildly different cultures meet in what might be the biggest cosmic coincidence ever. The alien culture that is discovered lives at a million times faster rate …
Forward’s writing can be somewhat dry but the concepts he deals with are pure Hard Science Fiction! If you want to know what life on a neutron star might be like, read this book 🙂
This is what great Science Fiction can be.
Boring. Very technical. Not much of a story.
Very thought-provoking. This is by far the best treatment of non-carbon-based life that I can recall reading. I wish I was well-versed enough in physics to have a better grasp on how plausible such life actually would be. Fascinating read.
This is why I love sci-fi. I like a well written galactic good against evil story but this book is my favorite type. It makes you think outside the box, and I love it.
I first read this book many years ago. It was very enjoyable then and, in my opinion, it still is. Some have called it unbelievable but isn’t that what science fiction is all about?
Great classic, hard sci find. a must read.
It is a really interesting concept. A little slow and takes a while to see where it is heading. When it gets going the end comes too soon.
Wonderful imaginative alien species, very different from humans. Very little anthropomorphizing. Complex and relatable.
Fabulous story with heavy science content by a world-class practitioner.
