Thieves aren’t known for doing other people favors, but a unicorn is a treasure of a whole different color. Winter was on her way out of town anyway, so what’s a little baggage? Never mind that fleeing Anton with a barely weaned unicorn could get her killed or thrown in prison if she is caught.Winter is a skilled thief. It should have been an easy job. She wasn’t counting on a dragon with … with postpartum depression, the dragon’s unhatched egg or the injured wizard with a shakier past than her own.
The plan was to depart town for greener pastures and easier purses to snatch. Too bad leaving requires pulling off the biggest heist of all.

Maria Schneider had me with the first sentence. This delightful book starts with a proverb about a thief needing to forgo friendship. It then goes on to chronical true friendship among an unlikely crowd engaged on an unselfish mission. Along the way we are treated to more proverbs and adventure. This is a terrific book for adults but my guess is that YA readers would love it as well.
I love Maria Schneider’s writing regardless of genre. This one lives up to the already high standards she has set for herself with the rest of her books. If you have yet to read every single last one of them, I envy you. I have, and now I must wait for Ms Schneider to write some more. But trust me, it’s worth the wait.
I love all of Maria Schneider’s books and her latest one surpasses expectations. I love that each of the books in this series while focusing on a new character include characters from previous books integrating them wonderfully into the story.
Maria’s imagination and story telling knows no bounds!
This is the fourth in the Dragons of Wendal series and, I think, the best one yet.
Ms. Schneider has a talent for creating fun and interesting magical creatures in each of these books and this one is no exception. Zelda is a spider that weaves portals between worlds but I don’t think I should tell you more about her. Then there is Storm, the shape-shifting unicorn. I don’t think I should tell you more about him, either. Why spoil the fun?
Winter is a young thief (she would say an excellent thief) and budding healer (which she would deny). Winter steals Storm in an attempt to save him from a master criminal and smuggles him out of the city in a coffin. She’s in an adjoining coffin and all goes well, until a man crawls into her coffin and then the fun really begins.
Several characters appear from previous books in the series, but you don’t necessarily have to have read them to enjoy Dragon’s Egg. But why miss out? The first three books come in a boxed set.
This latest in the Dragons of Wendal series is my favorite. I love all the characters from previous books but Winter and Storm may be my favorites. The story starts out going fast and doesn’t let you off the ride until the end.
This one, like the others has a sweet romance as a subplot but it doesn’t overpower the main story in which Storm and Winter and the helpers they pick up on the way travel to an ailing dragon…but I’m not going to spoil the story. Just know that they’ll have a few hiccups on the journey, and the story doesn’t stop once they arrive. You’ll laugh and cheer on the group on their honorable mission.
I enjoyed the heck out of this story and think you will too.
“Dragon’s Egg” by Maria E Schneider is a fabulously entertaining fantasy novel. An intriguing quest plus engaging characters is solidly underpinned by excellent world building. Too many fantasy books are skeletons – all plot and little fleshing out of the world and characters. “Dragon’s Egg” provides the details and quirks of its world’s system of magic and the idiosyncrasies of its characters to give the novel depth. Great reading! Watch out for Zelda 🙂
