After discovering her father was a dragon, Rowan figures it can’t be any worse than being related to the Celts. That’s the thing about assumptions, though. They come round and bite you in the ass.The second book in a magic-laced, fast-paced, fantasy trilogy. With dragons.I’d rather fight than study, but I’m stuck poring over dusty scrolls. I promised I’d learn about the dragon part of my magic, … dragon part of my magic, but I’m having a hell of a hard time believing there’s some concealed strain of power just waiting for me to kindle it. Meanwhile, my friends the witches are playing fast and loose with remaining hidden.
My Celtic kin won’t bother them anymore—at least I don’t think they will. But far worse things rove Earth than the Celtic gods. The Breaking has developed an energy all its own. The longer it runs wild, the harder it will be to contain.
Soon, very soon, no magic in the Nine Worlds will be enough to counteract it. Once that happens, the few remaining mortals will go first, but the rest of us won’t be far behind them.

I was so excited when Bjorn and Rowan got together! With the way their magic complimented each other so seamlessly I knew there was more for them to come. It is sometimes hard for me to write a good review for books I absolutely love. I get so excited about the story I forget and talk about spoilers. The dragons have always known who Rowan was but never said or did anything. Same for gods. Well, the gods didn’t know about her father, but otherwise she wasn’t important until now. With the Breaking getting worse it’s going to take everything and everyone to hopefully stop the end of the Nine Worlds and Yggdrasil. I love the way Rowan’s cat, Mort, has claimed ownership of Bjorn too. There is so much for Rowan and Bjorn to handle with the Norse and Celtic gods, dragons, giants, searching for allies and fighting all kinds of evil creatures every time they turn around. That doesn’t include keeping an eye on both of the witches dwellings to help keep them safe. It’s a good thing they both have bonded dragons, Zelli and Quade. Plus, Rowan’s crazy dragon father is in cahoots with Loki and instrumental in the Breaking spell with Ceridwen. These books grabbed me from the first page and I didn’t get much sleep until the end. I know I say that this is the best series yet, but that is true with every series I have read by this author. I requested an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.
Dragon’s Blood, book 2 in Ann Gimpel’s Dragon Heir series, jumps right in and never stops rolling! The storyline is fast-paced, filled with danger, intrique, back-stabbing, magic and hayhem, romance and revelations that rock both Rowan and Bjorn’s world. What they decide to do with this new knowledge could change the nine-worlds. Heady with power they are both ready to tackle their tasks. Tasked by dragons, Norse and Celt gods they truly have their hands full trying to make eveybody happy while attempting to take care of their new bond.
If you like dragons, Norse gods, Celt Gods, and a lot of inter fighting amongst the three, you’ll love Dragon’s Blood. But it is more that that. It is a novel filled with an exciting energy, great quests and absolutely wonderful characters. It’s a story of personal growth for both Rowan and Bjorn. I can’t wait to see what book 3 brings!
Once again, Ann doesn’t disappoint! Rowan is slowly coming to terms with being a dragon heir, but she hates spending all of her time studying dusty lore books & training with dragons learning to fight. Bjorn is helping her try to find a way to fix the Breaking. They know they need help from both the Norse & Celtic Gods, but getting them to agree to work together is not going to be easy. They are also going to need help from inhabitants from all of the Nine Worlds. In the midst of all of this, Rowan finally realizes that she can’t fight her feelings for Bjorn. Rowan has been trying to find out which dragon is her father, but she gets a shock when she finally finds out.
Rowan & Bjorn are great together. They don’t only complement each other magically, but they make a great set of characters. The dragons add a great dimension to the story & it’s fun to see all of the Gods/Goddesses & their interactions with everyone. This story has lots of action, great characters, suspense, intrigue, & ends with a HEA.
This one takes this series to a new level. The surprising revelations & shocking twist just sweeten the pot in what is one of the most detailed and intense fantasy series that I have ever read. I am also super glad that Rowan finally made a decision, so much so that I am actually okay with how the author decided to end this book, it builds up my anticipation for the next one. I had several jaw-dropping moments and enjoyed the learning along with the characters moments. Adventurous plot continues to be very inviting to the imagination and sucked me right into their world full of dragons plus…I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author.
Rowan and Bjorn are still finding their way through all the stuff going on. Now they also have to deal with her training with the dragons. More secrets are revealed and Rowan finds out who fathered her. They come up with a plan but then have to make some quick changes. I really enjoyed how much Rowan refused to just meekly allow everyone to push her around. Mort is awesome, and I love the scenes with him in them. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
This was one that caused a happy dance when I entered in. This world is one so full of adventure and characters that give it life. Loving my dragons this is the perfect fix for my craving. Rowan has much more to learn and do but through it we go along with her. Then there is Bjorn that competes for you attention and he can hold it, oh lets not forget the cat Mort. This is the perfect example of so much ot do and so little time. With that being said that can give you a hint of why this fantasy has the staying power to keep a reader planted in its world. I have now left a bigger piece here waiting for the next one.
Exciting from beginning to end, the main characters I swear are even better than they were in the first book. I’m assuming that with the dragons out of the bag, per se, it made the story deeper and able to go in so many surprising ways. I love the dragons no-nonsense attitude, but still showing flashes of caring for their charges. With their help will they be able to save earth? Then, with Rowan and Bjorn finally making time for each other, well speaking for myself, it just puts the cherry on the top. I have to mention that it’s really hard trying to kill an immortal dragon but that event was grrreat. This book is filled with twist and turns and so much excitement, that I’m wondering how the author is going to top it in Book 3.
