Assassin’s Blade is Book 1 in the Dragonriders of Fiorenza series by Melinda R. Cordell. This is a beautifully written story with lots of action, world building is excellent, characters well developed, and best of all Dragons. Fia (MFC) is being married off by her father to a tyrant who will not allow Fia to maintain her business of transporting people on her dragon for a fee. Her father is kidnapped, the ransom demanded is too high for her family to pay so Fia goes to her grandmother, a former assassin, for help. These are two tough ladies. Read this book. Loved this book, kept turning pages until wee hours of the morning needing to know what came next. Am anxious for the next in series to see what the author has in store for these characters. I highly recommend it. Received a copy from Booksprout and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Our heroine’s father is kidnapped and the only one she can turn to for help is her grandmother, who used to be an assassin. I would not want to be the kidnappers…
This is a fantasy story set in medieval Italy but with dragons. This was a fascinating read for multiple reasons. First, the story is well written and the setting is quite detailed and well crafted. Second, I don’t know a lot about medieval Italy, so getting know more about the setting and politics, even through this fantasy veil, was quite intriguing. And lastly, I loved our heroine and her grandmother. Those are two tough ladies. Combining all these elements created a story that drew me in and wouldn’t let go. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to more from this author.
Highly recommended

Friendship and war
I enjoyed reading this book. The two main characters (Fia and Neva) grow up and develop in different ways because of the war that separates them. There are many great characters like Fia’s grandparents. Each person is unique. The plot flows well. The book has a lot of action. I’d recommend this book to those looking for a fantasy book with magic and dragon characters.
Fia’s grandfather dies protecting Neva when her people attack Fiorenza. Fia’s father makes Neva’s family leave and then burns down their home. He does many things that are not nice to try and reunite Fiorenza. He gets kidnapped by the rebels. Fia learns to fight so that she can rescue him. In the meantime, her betrothed’s father makes Fia’s life miserable. The men rule and make changes as they go. They eventually try to steal her dragon and she flees.

Exciting Dragon Adventure!
Excellent reading. This is the first book in the series and I love Fia, the feisty heroine, her dragon Ryelleth and Teita, her grandmama and former assassin. A wonderful combination of history, fantasy and magic all wrapped up in a fast paced drama full of suspense, intrigue, drama, twists, dragons, and villains with some heartwarming characters and romance thrown in. However it does have a cliffhanger ending. I look forward to reading more. Enjoy!

What an amazing adventure! In a time where women are considered property, Fia does what she wants. She flies a dragon, she rehabilitated, collects money for rides and spoke up during her marriage contract meeting. I just LOVED this book. Fia is an awesome heroine whom is also human in her feelings. She cares for so many people. When her grandmother offered to teach her assassin skills, I was so excited. If dragons were alive today, I would love to have one of my own. Patriarchy has always been such a oppression of women, yet it never seems to be able to be stopped. In my opinion, that is why novels like this one do so well with readers. Women would love to be able to be in charge of their own destiny.
This was a fast paced story and a great start of the series. It was well written and I really enjoyed the characters. I’m looking forward to the next book!

I don’t know how women in this type of society can suppress themselves and live under the rule of the males as if they have no brain to think or do anything on their own. I think Fia would have been smarter to let the kidnappers keep her father who set her up to marry a spineless man who won’t allow her to continue the successful business Fia has set up to support her family. Using her dragon, Ryelleth, she transports people around the various cities for a fee. It lets her see her world and help her family. For some reason, that isn’t acceptable to the men. Her marriage will mean giving up her dragon! Anyway . . .
Fia’s father gets kidnapped and the ransom is more than the family could ever pay. Fia does the only thing left to her – she contacts her grandmother who used to be an assassin. She and her grandmother go after the kidnappers to rescue her dad. Will they find him in time? Will it make a difference to him about forcing her to marry if she rescues him? Something more nefarious seems to be going on, though. Will Fia be prepared to take on what’s coming?
The story was very intriguing and the characters were portrayed well. And anything with dragons in it is an excellent reading choice! Grab your copy and enjoy!
This book was nothing like I thought it would be from the title. It is filled with dragons instead of assassins. The females in this world are not allowed to ride dragons or be much more than chattel. An indulgent father, a true love, an arranged
marriage, a war looming on the horizon, and a war dragon who is her best friend, are all catalysts to the development of Fia’s very independent nature. The end of the book is a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to see what happens next. I would recommend this book as it was a very good read.

Awesome read with treachery abounding as political parties are intertwined throughout the saga as factions both with dragons fight to overthrow the other while magic is used to win the wars with kidnapping and struggles of being a female in one of the realms.
I received this novel from Booksprouts an as ARC. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This novel was an enjoyable read. It is a time where women have no power, for they are controlled by the men in their family. Many women accept this role, but some fight tooth and nail for the freedoms they should have. Fia has a dragon and earns her own money, which is frowned upon since women should not ride dragons. Fia’s father engages her to a man who cannot stand up to his own father and that said father seems to have a hidden agenda. Fia wants to keep her independence even after she is married, but is denied by the men. Fia becomes angry with her father, but then he is kidnapped and she feels responsible. Fia finds her grandmother, a former assassin, to help her rescue her father. Fia receives training in weapons and magic, and desires revenge. However, things are not always as they seem and there appears to be a deadlier plot in the works. Fia will need all the help she can get to save her father and stop the trouble that is brewing.
I love the descriptive nature of this book! I feel like I am in the story!
