Passion burns hot in Dragonfire, the next Dark Kings novel from New York Times bestseller Donna Grant. It was a soul-deep longing, one that got into his bones and settled there, sending whispers of desire through him. The need, the hunger, grew tenfold with every breath. . . . As a Dragon King, Roman is sworn to protect all mortals–even though they no longer believe in dragons. But deep in … they no longer believe in dragons. But deep in the Carpathian Mountains, he discovers a beautiful and mysterious gypsy who possesses the power to see into his very soul. To reignite the fire in his heart. And to help him find the long-lost sword that could save the dragons forever…
Sabina remembers the stories her grandmother told her. Legends of dragons and kings, fire and ice. And she’s never forgotten the dark prophecy that filled her ancestors with fear–a fate they tried to prevent by stealing a Dragon King’s sword. Sabina knows that helping Roman is dangerous. He is a dragon betrayed, and more powerful than any man. He could destroy her in a single fiery embrace. But how can she resist the longing in his eyes–or the feelings in her heart–when their destinies are bound by desire?

My Thoughts – 5 out of 5 Unicorns – I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I think I want to collect this series in paperback!!
The cover has a beautiful light blue dragon.
This is the 14th book in the series. I wish I have read them all, but this is the 3rd one I’ve read. It is for adults only due to the steamy content.
All of my favorite characters were in this book, and some new ones were added. Rhi and Eilish are awesome women. They are snarky and awesome. Sabina is just as awesome. There is mystery and adventure about the Others in this book that adds to the ever growing questions and what the Kings have to deal with. Sabina and Roman and put through the paces, and Sabina’s brother is sweet and has some amazing gifts. Roman and V are trying to find V’s sword, and they found some help with Sabina and her brother. As always with the Kings, there is a lot going on which keeps you engaged in their story. Sabina and Roman are going through a lot trying to get through the obstacles put in place by the Others.
Donna Grant does a fabulous job to engaging you in the mystery and adventure to find V’s sword. I love that gypsies are part of the story, and they have gifts that they are using to help the Kings. She does a fantastic job with the dramatic parts where Sabina is involved.
I highly recommend any of the Dark Kings books because they have adventure, shifters, romance, fae, Druids, and so much more!
Roman and V set put for Romania to find V’s sword. Once there they come across Sabina and Camlo who have their own kind of abilities. Sabina quickly realizes they are Kings and V is the one from the story her grandmother told her. Sabina and Camlo join forces with the Kings to locate the sword and right the wrong done by their ancestors.
Roman and Sabina work together through dangerous magic to find V’s sword. Along the way they finally admit their feelings. They also uncovered more of the plot against the Kings.
The story is really ramping up and I can’t wait to see what is uncovered next.
Another great book from the series. A book full of mystery, unexpected events and searching for answers. Roman is helping V with finding his sword and their journey is leading them to Sabina and her brother who have a special sight. Sabina’s grandmother had warned her about dragons but her gut and her brother action make her decide to help V and Roman. A journey full of unknown, finding of the past, searching for an answer, finding love and passion. Really great interesting read. Both Sabina and Roman likable characters who make reading even more interesting.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly
I totally enjoy each line of her writing. I love the characters, the plots the many different levels, the romance, the passion. The suspense and just everything about them! I will say this is a series that is definitely a keeper and one to enjoy over and over again.

Donna Grant
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
Oh how I love this series by Donna Grant. Dragons have always been mysterious. I loved watching a cartoon about one as a child. So it doesn’t surprise me that I would enjoy reading about them now, as an adult.
This particular edition focuses on Roman and Sabina. Sabina is a Seer, if you will. Her family roam Europe as Gypsy’s because staying in one place is too dangerous for them. The beginning of the novel has Sabina’s Gran telling her about dragons and her place to protect a secret.
The dragons are looking for a sword that was stolen from one (Vlad) of the two many eons ago. Roman is a friend of Vlad’s and is helping him find the sword. His attraction to Sabina is noted right away. Though he tries to ignore it since that isn’t what he’s on a mission to find.
This story is pretty bumpy in it’s findings. There’s a lot going on with the dragons and the involvement of Sabina and her family. The author doesn’t disappoint in her writing and I loved how she incorporated the other paranormal’s into the story to help figure out what’s happening to the dragons and why. It’s one of the many reasons I enjoy reading this series. I hope you do too!
Donna Grant does it again. The world of the Dragon Kings is addictive! I feel personally involved – I laugh, I tear up, I smile….I can’t wait for the next so I’m rereading the ones before to find clues that may answer questions! Totally immersive! I see the world she has created & care about all those in it.
Dragonfire by Donna Grant
Dark Kings #14
The first book I read in this paranormal fantasy world was in the Reapers series and I have managed to read all of them except the second. I came into the Dark Kings series on book 10 and missed the book that preceded this one. I have to say that though it was an exciting action-packed thrilling read I did have times I got bogged down in wondering who some of the characters were from what seems to be a “world” I am not totally conversant with. That said, I wouldn’t mind one day starting at the beginning and reading through the books in order.
In this book we hear of many characters in the realm(s) but the main focus is on finding dragon kind Vlad’s sword. Roman, another dragon king, is going along with him to search for the sword that has been missing for uncountable years and is so necessary to the dragons.
While in Romania they come across Sabina and her brother who are much needed on their sword-quest. They travel, encounter magic, have problems to overcome and eventually manage to accomplish what they set out to do…although at the end of the book there are still many loose threads to be dealt with before the series can be completed.
For some reason this book did not hold my attention like some in the past have. I am not sure why but think it has to do with not having read enough in this specific sub-series to keep all the characters from all the various groups 100% straight.
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I like to read more in this series? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
3-4 Stars
Dragon Kings V and Roman are on a quest to find V’s stolen sword. Due to V’s amnesia of the incident, they travel to V’s territory hoping to find clues when they arrive. The duo meets Camlo and Sabina while on their search. V and Roman discover that the brother and sister, who are descendants of the clan V protected, have information relating to V’s curse and his lost weapon. V and Camlo work together to uncover V’s memories, while Roman and Sabina, the couple of the story, descend inside a mountain for V’s sword.
The path to retrieve the Dragon King sword was tense, and fast paced. At the climax of the story, I was bouncing in my seat. Roman’s clever Dragon power lends to his artistic tendencies. Sabina’s creativity, although different in expression than Roman’s, gives the couple a common interest. Roman’s dominance induces fantastic desire during their intimacies. The spark between the pair is potent, which is a common thing with Donna Grant novels.
I make it no secret that I am a huge fan of the Dark World series. The subplots continue to grab my attention. At this point, the recurring characters are as much of a focus for me as the main couples are. Dragonfire is the first novel since Ulrik’s redemption. He played a minor, but crucial, part here. I believe his presence will be game-changing, especially for Con. I see Con reaching his breaking point, and that could be a very good, or a very bad thing.
Every Dark King book is a comfort, and a curse, all rolled into one. There is an overwhelming sense that resolution is just around the corner, and I am eager for the good versus evil showdown. But at the same time, I do not want them to end. Dragonfire by Donna Grant was given to me by Saint Martin’s Press, through NetGalley, for my honest opinion.
Legends and events foretold collide when Roman happens across the beautiful gypsy, Sabina, and her brother. Powers are maneuvering everyone like pieces on a chessboard and it’ll take some creative thinking and pure determination to get through the trials set before them. Along the way they’ll find the fire of passion in one another, soothing a deep ache and yearning that neither were anticipating. Events are leading them all to a confrontation like no other and it’ll take all of their gifts to sort out their path and embrace the courage to travel it.
Roman is soulful, a thinker, and very controlled. He also feels very deeply. His life has tossed him from abandonment to loss and back again and the Others aren’t through with him. I liked his quiet manner, his dislike for lying and misleading, and his caring concern for Sabina and her brother. There’s an immediate feeling I get when I “met” him that he needed to be wrapped up in a big hug and never let go. Roman is a strong and supportive partner to anyone he’s working with and the beginning of him and Sabina is no exception.
Sabina may have neglected her gift because of the way she grew up but she never lost her respect for or belief in her heritage and gifts. I enjoyed how smart, determined, and strong she was. Her forthright honesty was probably my favorite thing about her. She never felt the need to deceive for any purpose and it often led to humorous or passionate moments that lightened the overall mood of those scenes. She is really an ideal partner for any of the Dragon Kings but it’s the way she sees into Roman and knows on a basic level that she was meant for him. While it takes a bit for her to recognize that, she never shies away from that knowledge once she’s aware of it.
Puzzle pieces are being shifted into place and more are being revealed and each is more pivotal than the last. The story is getting more and more exciting, heading for a big confrontation and I find myself breathing faster, reading faster, and speculating more and more about what will happen next, whose mate will be the catalyst for the “final” maneuver that brings about a possible war… There’s so much to enjoy about this series and this book in particular embodies everything that’s awesome about it.
A dragon king on a mission to find an enchanted sword. A mysterious gypsy with the gift of sight and a legend. This story has it all for PNR fans. Although the 14th book in the series (of which I have read none), I was able to follow along with the storyline and the ancillary characters. Roman never expected to find such strong feelings for this gypsy woman. It once again proves that we are put into places and situations that we were intended. This was a fast paced read.
I luuurrrvvvere dragons!!! So, I really don’t have anything bad to say here. Like I’ve stated on reviews before I’ve read a lot of Donna Grant’s books in her different series, and the Dragon Kings are my favorite so far and they don’t disappoint! This is Roman and Sabina’s story and though I felt the chemistry was a little lacking, I still loved it. Why? Because its DRAGONS!!!! Lol. Love me so dragons!
The only problem I have is that I am all over the place with this series and I really need to buckle down and play catch up. Lol. Another great read. 4 solid stars!!!

Up All Night w/ Books Blog< Dragonfire by Donna Grant is a suspenseful adventure with just enough romance, angst, and mystery all wrapped up in a pair of breathtaking dragons wings. The vivid details pull you into the story. I am in awe. This is just magic. Sabina and her younger brother Camlo are gypsy descendants. They each have a gift that they have hidden from the world. Sabina has been warned since childhood about the Dragon Kings wanting to take out her kind and because of this, she has kept a low profile. Until Vlad and Roman show up. Roman and Vlad are the two main Dragon Kings in this book and are just sinfully delicious. Vlad's flippant sense of humor had me laughing out loud several times and Roman, oh Roman, he will just melt your heart. These two are on a quest looking for Vlads sword that was stolen years ago and they stumble upon Camlo in the forest. Some reason there is a pull to Camlo and Sabina but they cannot figure out what or why. The first book I have read by Donna Grant and I am a FAN FOR LIFE! I just devoured Dragonfire and I wanted to cry!! I did not want it to end, THANK goodness this is a series and I am going to start from the beginning. I am just blown away, where has Donna Grant been all my life? I have been in the wrong cave! I completely geeked out with this book. You had me at Carpathian Mountains, Romania, Ms. Grant.
A lot happens in this book. There is very little romance in this book. Yes Roman and Sabine end up together and there is a little romance but mostly this book is about the bigger story. We find out so much in this book and also have way more questions. We find out who their enemies are sort of. I think Camlo is one of my favorite new characters in this series. I do hope we see more of him in the following books. I look forward to reading more because I am no more curious on whats going to happen and why.
*I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.
So this was a very interesting and entertaining read and even though this was the first book I have read from this series there were plenty of backstory for me to be able to follow along. I’m definitely will be checking out the other books in this series. Overall a enjoyable read with plenty of action, suspense, and intrigue. Also so much twists and turns that you didn’t see coming. I received free copy via Netgalley I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.
Nice continuation of the Dark Kings series. It’s heavy on characters, dangerous situations, and angst but light on the romance….which was fine with me. I thought Roman and Sabina were good together.
This book is considered a stand alone, however, I’ve read the last few books in this series, and knew most of the characters, but I still got a little lost a time or two….although it did not take away from my enjoyment of this book.
All in all, I thought this was an excellent addition to the series and recommend it and the Dark King (and the companion Reapers) series.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias.
DRAGONFIRE is the fourteenth full-length instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult DARK KINGS paranormal/fantasy romance series focusing on the Dragon Kings and the women they love. This is Light Blue Dragon King Roman, and jewellery maker /Romani gypsy Sabina Gabor. DRAGONFIRE should not be read as a stand alone as the current story lines continue to follow an ongoing series arc.
SOME BACKGROUND: The DARK KINGS is a spinoff from Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. The Dark Fae and their King Taraeth, along with the Silver Dragon Mikkel have declared war on the Dragon Kings by exposing the dragon’s existence to humankind. The last wars between man and the world of the paranormal saw a great loss of life on all sides but someone or something is determined to push the Dragons back into another war: Queen Usaeil of the Light Fae has set her sights on claiming King Constantine as her mate, and the Dark Fae want the Dragon’s hidden weapon in order to rule Scotland and the rest of the world. With the recent introduction of the Fae executioners known as the Reapers, the number of interconnected series continues to expand.
Told from several third person perspectives including Sabina and Roman, DRAGONFIRE follows Light Blue Dragon King Roman, and Dragon King Vlad aka V, as they go in search of Vlad’s missing sword, stolen thousands of year earlier while V slept in the Carpathian Mountains. Drawn to Romania in search of Vlad’s past, Roman will come face to face with his future-Romani gypsy and jewellery designer Sabina Gabor. What ensues is the slow building relationship between Roman and Sabina, and the fall-out as their search for the sword reveals past events linking Sabina’s family and Vlad, and the powerful magic meant to destroy them all.
DRAGONFIRE is a detailed and revealing story of magic, betrayal, vengeance and hope. With each instalment Donna Grant reveals a little more backstory and slowly exposes the conspiracy surrounding the fate of the Dragons, and the potential for war with the Fae, the Druids, and mankind. The gradual but deliberately slow, evolving series continues to expand, introducing new players and potential dangers as it meanders numerous paths taking the reader along for the ride. Light Fae Rhi continues to lament the rejection of the Dragon King she will always love; and Balladyn, now King of the Dark Fae, is determined to make Rhi his queen.
The Dark King series matures and expands with each subsequent addition. For followers of the series Ulrik and Con have made amends forcing the series to venture into another direction as the Dragon Kings face an old enemy that is determined to control them all. The romance takes a back seat to the increasing prospect of another Fae/Dragon war-a war of which the world may not survive.
Ready for another one from this author she delivers big time with this one. Using Roman to send the warmth flowing to get us started along with Sabina you are whisked away with this one. Entering into this world you satisfy the need for magic and love along with the adventure that unfolds. Trust and seeing what love can do is demonstrated to the fullest in this. It will set a yearning at times for such a relationship as this that builds. From the moment you enter into this one until the last word you are given more than a treat to satisfy the need.
Dragonfire is Roman’s story in the continuing saga of the Dragon Kings coming in at a solid 4.5 stars (rounded up). Roman is determined to help V reclaim his Dragon King sword after watching the suffering and pain V has endured for centuries. Sabina ‘s mother took her from the Gypsy family when she was a young child but she has always carried the oral history of her people and the dragon Vlad. Spending her days caring for her childlike brother, Bina never expected to stumble upon not one but two dragons in her valley. Attraction draws Roman and Bina together and promises to become something more as Bina and her brother help the dragon’s find the sword. Danger and mystery abound as Bina’s powers reveal an unexpected link in their past. The Others’ magic keeps upping the game and threatening the quest and their lives. This story is a page in a long running series and would be best read if the reader has read at least part of the series. The heat level is not too hot with just the right amount of spice to keep the pages turning. Bina and Roman get a semi-HEA that is sweet but left with the cliffhanger of the Others’endgame still unresolved. Dragonfire is an action packed and magical story full of sexy dragons in a series that will always keep you coming back for more.
This is the latest in the long line of series on dragon kings, but the series continues to be interesting. I tried reading from the beginning of the series, but couldn’t catch up to the current storyline. Regardless, the story was not confusing despite not having read all the prior books although there are some parts of the story that can be a little slow if you don’t understand all the prior books that’s gone by. The story is not super steamy, but full of action and intrigue. The dragon kings are little vague as they are supposed to be larger than life, but female character is fairly interesting. I wouldn’t say it was most engrossing book I’ve read in last few months, but definitely kept my attention.
Voluntary and honest review after receiving ARC (advanced reader copy).
This is Book 14 in the Dark Kings series. The way the book starts, you think it’s going to be Vlad’s story but it’s Roman’s story. It tells the background about Vlad but Roman takes over the story. Sabina has the Sight and her grandmother tells her the story that has been passed down through her family about the Dragon Kings. Now she, along with her brother, Camlo, get to meet Roman and Vlad, who are both Dragon Kings. But she wonders about the truth of that carried down tale and whether its really been told correctly. This book has so much exciting drama happening in it. It kept me on the edge of my chair as I read it. Now I’m going back to catch up on the first of the Dragon Kings! I voluntarily read and reviewed this book that I received from Netgalley.
