Wonderfully descriptive and entertaining! Can’t wait for next book!
A series worth following!
It’s probably a really bad idea to accept a dare when inebriated at any time and it’s even less wise to do so when pirates, sea monsters and a maniacal Mage are in the mix.
Plenty of nerve-wracking action, humour, likeable, engaging characters and enough magic, mayhem and monsters to keep the pages rapidly flipping over.
Darek is a likeable teenage boy from Red claw clan. His mother abandoned him when he was younger. He lives on an island and sailing is a normal part of their lives. He enters a race and comes in second place to a girl named Clara. He and his friends celebrate and get drunk. Then they dare him to sail to Dragonclaw and bring back part of a wrecked ship. He takes their dare and his life changes drastically. He has many adventures and his life is at risk multiple times. He makes some new friends by saving the life of a teenage boy from the rival black claw clan. Darek discovers he has a new talent that shows up out of the blue and not when he wants it.

“Anyone can win on any day, depending on the winds and chance.”
A daring and strong personality of the main character takes us on a journey through turbulent seas and unexpected outcomes, full of intrepid and nerve wrecking actions.
With a story every bit as intricate and entertaining as the personalities who fill it.
Thoroughly enjoyable Prelude to a new fantasy series.
This is a really interesting new fantasy series. I really enjoyed reading this one and am eagerly anticipating the next book in the series!

The descriptive prose gives the reader the feeling of being present in the story. Action on the sea abounds and one can almost feel the salt spray in the activity on the water. The story moved quickly as the boy/man hero makes his way into trouble with pirates. With no chance to escape, he becomes the beneficiary of assistance from an unexpected quarter. This text is an easy read, and hard to put down. The unexpected ending left the reader wanting more.

This short story prequel has my interest piqued for the rest of the series. I had a little trouble getting in to the story, but by the time I finished the first chapter I was really interested. Definitely a departure from my usual genres, this is well written and exciting. The characters are interesting and the protagonist is quite likeable.

ARGH! Pirates and warring factions combine for excitement in this prequel to the Dragon Sea Chronicles. A quick read with lots of heart stopping thrills!
I enjoyed this story very much. It ended a bit abruptly, but it is a precursor to another book. It did what it was supposed to do and captured my imagination so that I want to read the next book. The characters were very good. I was able to imagine soaring along on the waves with them. I would recommend this if you like adventure stories.

Dragon Sea Chronicles
A very good introduction to Dragon Sea. It does not spend/waste a lot of time setting up the world but gives just enough background in the story to know what is going on. It starts out as a simple boys being boys story and goes from there. I liked the mix of fantasy, magic, and high seas adventure that was rolled int a fun story that makes me want to read the series to find out what happens next in this world The hints that are dropped and the twist at the end set the series up. Kept me entertained throughout the story to see what would happen next.
A young man, Darek, finds out the hard way that it is never a smart move to take a dare. He turns a drunken night of innocent revelry into a momentous fight for his life, all because he wanted to show off. When Darek sails in a stolen sloop to the home waters of the Black Claw Clan, he runs into trouble by rescuing a prisoner from the clutches of a wizard who is trying to control/train a sea serpent. Escaping from the wizard soon forces the young men into the hands of a band of pirates. The daughter of the Pirate captain takes a liking to Darek, and things soon grow progressively worse.
I liked this prequel to the SEA DRAGONS: MAGE RISING. I would have given it a higher score except that I kept losing the flow of the story when the author used too many pirate or nautical terms. I felt that could have been cleaned up better to make the story easier to follow.

Good book for YA and those who like this type of coming of age fantasy. It does end in a cliff hanger. The characters were fairly fleshed out and the action moved along quickly.
This book gets right into the action and just keeps going. The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger leaving the reader wanting more.Great read.
Sea dragons, pirates, wizards, serpents–what more do you need. A fun and entertaining read with an original and action-packed new take on dragons and mages. I recommend this book as the start to the epic Dragon Sea world.
