The stories say that the dragons saved humanity, but all they left were ashes, cinder, and a new breed of human. Welcome to the Outlands, where nobody cares if you scream.Rogue, Fighter, survivor. I have many roles, but my only purpose is to protect my loved ones and make a better life for them. It’ll take one more job to make my dream a reality. But fate, the uncooperative bitch, stands ready to … make my dream a reality.
But fate, the uncooperative bitch, stands ready to twist the knife.
Taken by Dragon bloods, the better-looking result of human and dragon unions, I’m caged and forced to fight in the arena for their amusement.
They want me to bleed, but I’ll be damned if I’ll kiss the sand for them
But there is more to the Arena’s purpose than meets the eye, and I’m beginning to believe that all the stories I’ve been told may be nothing more than fiction. With the help of a man with eyes like flame, and his arrogant, incorrigible brother, I may just survive to find out the truth.
The Bloods are close to executing an awful plan, and the only way to stop them is to escape. My family wait for me. My dream awaits, and freedom will be mine.
A kick-ass fantasy with a slow burn whychoose romance. Fans of Rise of the Iliri and War of the Gods will love The Dragon Guard series.

A completely different take on dragons that had me on the edge of my sofa the entire time. A magical read that left me wanting more. Can’t wait to dive further into this new world Debbie Cassidy has created.
I first read this book when it was part of an Anthology early in 2019 and i loved it then but i also loved it so much on the re-read and really need book 2 now.
Anya is tough but vulnerable brilliant female MC – Helgi is her best friend and a wonderful wing woman and the banter is brilliant.
Set in a fantasy world with Dragon shifters, Humans and Skins ( Half Breeds ) Anya is forced to fight in an Arena for her survival.
Teaming up with Dante in the arena for survival things are not what they seem and after they escape Anya is handed over to Vesper who is super broody and sexy.
There are lots of twists and turns to keep you interested. Angst and Intrigue a plenty plus a brilliant storey that will captivate you.
Really string storey full of action and definately worth a read.
This was an amazing start to a new and exciting series! The world building was great and I love the fresh take on the offspring of dragon and human pairings. Anya is an interesting FMC and I can’t wait to continue her story to see how she deals with everything that is coming her way. This is a must read for anyone who loves dragons!
One of my all-time-favourite Dragon series’ and this is only book ONE!
Debbie Cassidy is the type of Author, that once you find her work, you will devour everything, and this book is definitely no exception.
Seriously, click the link and grab a copy of this ASAP. The only downside is the wait for book two. 😉
A thrilling mix of fantasy and technology
Anya, a dragon/human hybrid, is doing everything she can to help her father and younger siblings survive; even if it falls into a grey area of life. As the story progresses a trap is sprung, her skills are put to the test, and determining friend from foe will be the only way for her to live. Debbie Cassidy’s Dragon Trial is a thrilling mix of fantasy and technology that will leave you wanting more. This book does end in a cliffhanger, so you will have to wait for the series to play out at the whim of the author’s muse.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
Dragon Trial (Dragon Guard Series Book 1) by Debbie Cassidy is an amazing start to a brand new series for me to read. This is book number one and I can not wait to read the next book in this amazing series. I highly recommend this story to all who love reading about dragons.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
who doesn’t love dragons?! this new series is fabulous!!
The dragons are coming!!!
If Gladiator and Game of Thrones had a baby, this would be it!! Must read!! dragons are coming and Anya must help to save the world! Enemies to friends and hopefully romance later . Get ready, round two is around the corner!
Loved this start to a new series. Of course I love anything with dragons. This story is definitely unique. Anya is a strong, independent character. I loved her spunk and willingness to keep fighting. The story just got better the more I read.
What did I just read??!! Probably one of the best books of my life! I was so on edge the entire book, barely breathing as I read through the action to see what happened next. Fantastic doesn’t cover it. Phenomenal is a drastic understatement. If you don’t read this book you are missing out on a life changing adventure.
Finally a good read in the fantasy, RH, kick ass women books that has a great female relationship! Dragon Trial finally shows us a bad ass warrior can be a “normal” figured woman and not your typical “goddess” vibe hero. Like stated before, my favorite relationship was that of Anya and her best friend Helgi. While I can always relate to the our heroine being alone or outcasts, I love the fact that Anya has a great love for her family and even more that she has another female as her person. Debbie Cassidy does a great job of in this book demonstrating that family and friendship come first. While I enjoy the romantic (can we say that, not sure in this case lol) aspec of the story, I could not be more happy with the Helgis character. I have to admit that I had to reread certain chapters for clarification but still a good book.
I was gifted a pre-copy if this book for my honest review.
Love this author! All her work is amazing. The fmc for this series is kickass!
Gawd. That. Was. Freaking. AWESOME! Mad Max mixed with magic on steroids. I loved how Anya fights. And I loved the reveal regarding Dante! I am looking forward to the next book so much!
Dragon Trial is definitely an interesting read, perfect if you love shifter books. It did take me a little while to get into but once I was hooked it was hard to not want more. I’m interested to see where Anya and Vesper’s relationship (can I call it that? A little bully romance? Lol) goes.
I absolutely loved Dragon Trial!! Just when I think I have found my favorite series by Debbie, she comes up with another one. This is why she is one of my top favorite authors. She never disappoints, always entertaining me.
In the Dragon Trial we are introduced to Anya. She is a young woman living in the outlands with her family and sidekick Helgi. Anya and Helgi get by with the odd jobs that they do. But when her father wants them to move, Anya and Helgi have one more job up their sleeve to help for the journey. Little do they know that this last job is not what it seems. When she is captured along with Helgi, some mercenaries and a stranger their lives take on an even more dangerous turn. Forced into the Arena where they fight to the death. But there is more going on with the Draco, for these are not just games. Their scientists want the winners for something bad. It is up to Anya and the mysterious sexy stranger to figure out what that is before they loose their lives.
I tell you guys, I loved this!! The characters are well written, the plot was so dang interesting I did not stop reading until the end. I just could not put down my kindle. Once you get invested in Anya and her story, you are not going to want to stop. My suggestion, make sure you have a good couple of hours of peace and quiet. This story is one I highly recommend.
This book is the first in yet another series by this very prolific author. I am not complaining, mind you, because I generally am immediately drawn into any book by this author, and this latest is no exception. One of the aspects of this book I really loved what the friendship between Anya and Helgi. There aren’t enough girl friendships in UF/RH books, and I don’t know why. These friendships help make a main character more realistic, IMO, and less like a woman who doesn’t like other women. Anyway, this was a great book with a unique universe, and I loved how Anya was also not the “perfect” woman; she loves to fight, drink, and her body is not “womanly.” Don’t think unattractive, BTW. I was intrigued with her past, and how it was revealed a little at a time, but there are still more secrets everywhere. I can’t wait to see what’s coming next. Highly recommend! I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
OMG what an amazing read this is! A fantastic start to the dragon guard series that is so exciting and intense you will not be able to put it down! With a kick ass female mc who takes no crap, doesn’t shy away from a fight, who is loyal and stands by her best friend , a fantabulous and gripping storyline and best of all there’s dragons my ultimate favourite! This story is intense and the world building incredible, when’s the next book out???
When I saw a new book by Debbie Cassidy I knew I had to read it, and when I read that it had dragons in it? Wow, just wow and it does not disappoint. Anya is one tough girl who has one weakness, people who need help and her family. When she finds herself in a horrible situation, she finds help from the one thing she has always been taught to fear. I am so excited to see what happens in this series
This book was an awesome start to a new series by Debbie. The world building was great and gives a great mental image when reading. I also love the new twist on Dragon and human relations. The FMC, Anya, has been through alot in her youth but she is very smart, compassionate and pretty darn tough. I can’t wait to see how her story unfolds with the Dreki Lords and what her key role is. Also can’t wait to find out what the anklet is suppressing as well as what Azazel’s role is in this story. Awesome book and can’t wait for the next one!!
I had the privilege and pleasure of reading Dragon Trial in a multi-author box set a while back and I was immediately hooked on this new series. I am thrilled to see that Cassidy is publishing this book separately, as well as continuing the series. It is amazing and I can hardly wait to get my hands on the next books!
As with standard Cassidy style, the characters in this book are unique and intriguing and the storyline will suck you in and have you anxiously wanting more. This new world is fascinating and exciting and the characters are full of life, charming, and resilient.
Anya is a young woman living in the Outlands with her family just trying to survive and take care of her them the best way she knows how. She has plans, big plans; saving up to get her family away from their current surroundings and move them to somewhere safer and more prosperous. She has her double-headed ax, Jezebel, her dune buggy, Juniper, and her friend and sidekick, Helgi at her side. They work together, play together, brawl together and stick together through thick and thin.
When Anya’s last job takes a turn for the worst she is separated from her family and along with Helgi, some mercenaries and a drool-worthy mysterious stranger they are forced into literal life and death scenarios in the Arena, as the entertainment for the Draco, or dragon bloods. Her eyes are opened to several truths and she finds many things are not as they seemed.
Getting free and back to her family is all that matters but the stakes become even higher the more information is revealed. With her new-found knowledge and allies, she has some hard decisions to make. However, whichever path she chooses her family and their survival is all that matters to her in the end but first, she has to survive the Dragon Trial. This is a brilliant new world created by Cassidy and I cannot wait to see where Anya’s knowledge and skills take her in this new adventure.
