Born with a secret power he must hide… that lurks within him, always threatening to reveal itself. Instead, he dedicates himself to serving as an officer in the king’s army, to battling pirates and imperial conquerors. He longs to become a soldier as respected and renowned as the legendary General Zirkander.
But his country is in need of more than a soldier.
After disappearing for over a thousand years, dragons have returned to the world. A few of them are willing to be allies to mankind, as they were millennia before, but far more want to destroy or enslave humans and claim the world for themselves.
There are few people left with the power to fight dragons. For reasons he doesn’t understand, Trip may be one of those people. But if he chooses to learn more about his heritage and the power he can wield, he risks losing everyone he loves and everything he longs to be.

Still set in Ridge’s and Sardell’s world. Love most of her books.
Dragons have been extinct for many years. There are rumors that some are back. Sidetrip, Trip for short, fancies himself as one of Iskandia’s best pilots, he also has hunches. Those hunches usually end up being the smart thing to do. They also get him in trouble with his commanders. He and his friend are about to be transferred to the capital where they become members of one of the strangest groups yet.
Lots of sexual innuendo, action and revealings. The story starts in the middle of action, well flying to investigate something anyway. My only complaint is that I wish the story continued long enough for the team to get back to the general and report. Makes me wonder if they make it back?
Great story with lots of realistic humor. The author must have either been in the military, or known several people that were.
I love the world that Buroker has created in these stories. Between “Heritage of Power” and “Dragon Blood”, you will find characters that you fall in love (and sometimes lust) with. I am a huge fan of Lindsay, and I believe the interpersonal conversations that her characters have with each other (and sometimes swords and dragons) is brilliant. I was hoping for more “Dragon Blood” novels, but this book and the rest of the series, was even better. I highly recommend it for Fantasy lovers. Please bear in mind, this is excellent, excellent light fantasy, not deep, dark brooding epic Fantasy such as “Malazan Book of the Fallen” would be.
Love this series!
This is an excellent story. There was real depth to the characters. Although this is supposed to be for teens or young adults, the situations we each are living day to day make this an wonderful escape even if I am neither of those.
My kind of book. Makes you want to read.
Lovely
I will read anything written by Lindsay Buroker. Never disappointing.
So good I had to buy the rest of the five book series. Note..after buying book 2, I found the five book s in one package!
Lots of variety for a quick read and imagination use.
I especially love stories about elves. I have a sample for more of this series. I have found it harder to review from samples. Thanks . Loved the rounded out characters: background & characterization. The world building was seamless. Thanks.
A alternate world fantasy with dragons, action/adventure and romance. The story moves right along without noticeable slow spots, I liked it well enough to have finished the next three sequels!
Lovely story I love everything about flying all situations had a realistic ring to them

Liked it
I really don’t like the series when I have to get the next one to finish the story. This series should be interesting, but I probably will never know.
A light but engaging read. I thoroughly enjoyed this series as an escape from stressful reality.
Enjoyable
