Born with a secret power he must hide… that lurks within him, always threatening to reveal itself. Instead, he dedicates himself to serving as an officer in the king’s army, to battling pirates and imperial conquerors. He longs to become a soldier as respected and renowned as the legendary General Zirkander.
But his country is in need of more than a soldier.
After disappearing for over a thousand years, dragons have returned to the world. A few of them are willing to be allies to mankind, as they were millennia before, but far more want to destroy or enslave humans and claim the world for themselves.
There are few people left with the power to fight dragons. For reasons he doesn’t understand, Trip may be one of those people. But if he chooses to learn more about his heritage and the power he can wield, he risks losing everyone he loves and everything he longs to be.

This author’s only desire seems to be an action packed adventure with great characters. They avoid the current effort at disguising porn, gore and other agendas that many so-called fantasy writers use. After reading book one I bought the set!
Whenever a books characters and the world they inhabit leave me wanting more, I consider it a good book. It’s a great book if I just have to have the next one. Loved these characters enough (especially Jaxi) that I want to check out the original series.
Very hard to put down
An exciting read. I enjoyed rereading it a year later.
Dragon Storm by Lindsay Buroker is the 1st book in a 5 book series called Heritage of Power. A few days ago I began reading Book 1 and I couldn’t stop! Now I’ve read all 5! Each book in the series is a page-turner! It has lots of action and adventure with witty banter and romance. It’s full of rich world building and fabulous characters. Trip is a wonderful male hero and Rysha is pretty awesome too. My favorite dragon is definitely Shulina Arya. She has so much character! Lindsay Buroker is an amazing storyteller.
In my opinion, it is hard to beat a Lindsay Buroker book for pure entertainment. Her writing is smooth, her characters are intriguing, and there is always a spice of romance. The book is short enough to read over a weekend, but long enough to feel satisfying and complete. Highly recommended.
Good read! I just finished the second book and can’t wait for the next one.
First in a new series, Heritage of Power, which is a wonderful fantasy adventure, with sorcerers, magical soulblades and pilots fighting against marauding dragons. Trip is a pilot with magical skills that he’s just learning about and trying to keep a secret, since magic and “witches” are feared and reviled in Iskandia. Rysha is a young noble born lieutenant chosen to accompany several pilots, including Trip, as well as other officers on a mission to close a portal that is allowing dragons to enter their world once more, after centuries of their banishment. Trip is chosen to carry a soulblade named Jaxi during the mission, a sarcastic, bossy, intrusive voice in his head, that also wields great power that will assist them all. This is the first in a new fantasy series, that has the author’s usual humor, action, wonderful characters and fantastic world building which I have enjoyed in all of her previous work that I’ve read. This world was originally described in the Dragon Blood series, which I still need to catch up on, but you can read this new series without having read that one first.
I loved the plot (more dragons invading and making lots of trouble) and the characters. Trip is wonderfully naive and Rysha is brilliantly naive. Kaisha is her usual unique self and — oh, just read the book. It’s great!
