Dorian hate the humans. That is why he hadn’t woken since they sent the dragons away. Now Con has woken him to get an artifact that they think can tell them more about their new enemy. Alex may have grown up with money but it has also been a thorn in her side. Everyone wants something from her but never just her When Dorian shows up she thinks she might have finally meet someone who sees her for who she is, not what she has.
This story focuses on Dorian. He despises humans and has been in a deep sleep for a very long time for that reason. Con needs him however and he is off to collect what is needed to help his brethren.
Alexandra is beautiful, smart and rich. However, she is nothing like Dorian thought.
His heart and soul have a change of heart but will it be too late?
Another fantastic story and I love seeing characters from previous books.
The chemistry between Dorian and Alexandra is quirky, loving, and hot!!
Great world building and characters; a lovely story
This series is on my TBR list, but I’d only read two other novellas before this one. While technically you can read this as a standalone, I think you would enjoy it more with the background of earlier books to build on. Note I read this as part of the 1001 Dark Nights Bundle 23 and a version of this review will be included there.
I did feel a little lost in the beginning with some of the setup because I wasn’t familiar with the characters or events mentioned. Once Dorian met Alex though, which happened early on, none of that mattered, and I remembered just how good this author is and why the series is on my TBR in the first place. Plus, if you stick with it, eventually most characters are introduced and artifacts are explained.
With great world building and characters, a nice plot twist and just the right amount of steam, this is a lovely story about two lonely souls connecting in spite of themselves. 5 stars

Dorian is one of the Dragon Kings and he has a painful past with humans. He is awakened and charged with getting an object from heiress Alexandra Sheridan. The Dragons are in trouble without it. Alexandra is lonely and also has a painful past. The couple meet at a charity auction, Dorian wins a date with Alexandra. This is a short but good read. I will be diving into other books in this series by this author.
Donna Grant’s Dragon Kings is a must read for Romance readers. She has built a world full of incredible characters and I for one wish I could jump into her books and never leave.
This book and the whole series of Dragon King books are fantastic. You get so invested in all the characters and their lives it’s hard just waiting for the next book to come out
I have read the whole series to date and each one is wonderfully written and entertaining. The characters are believable and you never know what’s going to happen.
If you read this series of books by Donna Grant you should start at the beginning so you can help the rest of the readers on her fan page figure out the mysteries. She has a reading order list on her fan page to help you keep track of what you have read and what you need to read.
The was a great short-story addition to the series. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Dorian’s hatred for humanity has kept him isolated in his mountain for millennia but an artifact’s protections make it necessary for him to awaken. Face to face with his anger and thirst for revenge, he’ll have to learn control it or he might just lose the one being that could soothe his soul and grant his heart peace. Alex’s honesty and penchant for eschewing the attention her wealth brings really endeared her to me. I felt she was genuine, forthright, strong-willed, and fierce once her heart made its decision. She was also compassionate, empathetic, and endlessly feeling which allowed her to be the balm Dorian’s soul needed. Together they were wonderful, both passionate and intelligent. Without reading any of the rest of the series I’d have to say that you wouldn’t be completely lost, but there are so many relationships and connections and references that you’d be better off if you did. As a standalone it was alright, but as a part of the Dark Kings series, it was fantastic.
I received a free copy of the book from the publisher.
It’s not everyday you meet a dragon. A real life dragon. Though Alex didn’t expect to meet one either! That was one of the parts I chuckled at when she put two and two together. Due to being born into wealth Alex doesn’t have a boss to report to. She has lots of charities she donates to and interacts with as well as various boards she sits on. When she meets Dorian after he buys a date with her during a charity fundraiser auction she can’t deny the attraction she instantly feels.
Dorian isn’t what he seems of course. He’s a dragon. Alex hold a relic that could be a key to a war brewing between the dragons and the fae. He’s definitely an interesting dragon.
Many things are happening in this story all at once. I enjoy how these Dragon Kings interact with each other and assist one another in their common goal. Adding Alex to his mix is not something Dorian counted on but definitely turns out to be beneficial to all of Dragon especially Dorian.
You can read this novella even if you’ve not read the other books in this series. You’ll be able to jump right in here and then continue either before or after. I hope you enjoy these dragons as much as I do!
You guys know that I love me some Dragon Kings and this 1,001 Dark Nights Dragon King Novella did not change that at all. I loved meeting a new King and learning his story. I could have totally done full length book for Dorian but Donna pulled off his story seamlessly even in the shortened format. As always you can jump right in any where with a 1001 Dark Nights Novella and not feel like you are completely in the dark. I will say that with the number of books that have come before this one in this series there is a lot of history at play but instead of feeling lost this book will just make you want to go back and start from the beginning so you can get to know all these Kings and their histories!
I am particularly in love with this story because it is clear we are getting to a point where Rhi’s elusive Dragon King is going to be revealed and I honestly don’t know if Donna is just playing with my feelings and twisting my heart up in knots just to yell “Gotcha!” when that book finally comes out or if she is well and truly leading to the one King I have fallen in and out of love with over and over, have wanted it to be him and wanted it to be the farthest thing from him every other book. We are getting there, and our answer is coming and I honestly can’t wait.
Dorian and Alex’s love is fast paced. I wouldn’t call it Insta, but this is a novella so things do happen at a clipped pace. It is hot, steamy, and oh so emotional. I love both of these characters equally and they make a great addition to the storyline.
Grab this book up whether you are a long time Dragon King reader or if this is your first experience. I can promise you it will be an experience well worth taking!
~ HAPPY READING ~

Can’t wait to read the next book… DRAGONFIRE 10/30/18
3.75 stars. This was a good addition to the Dark Kings series! This was Alex/Alexandra and Dorian’s story. Alex is a wealthy woman who inherited millions and is orphaned and lonely with no friends or family. Her family has left her many historical artifacts as well. One item is a very important relic that the Dragon Kings need to help fight their enemy. The king of the dragon kings, Con, awakens Dorian from his thousands of years sleep to send him to New York to get the artifact from Alex. Dorian doesn’t want to steal from Alex, so he tries to get to know her first, buying her in a bachelorette charity auction. When they get to know each other, they find they have a lot in common, with losses in their pasts and loneliness. They begin to fall for each other, but can their love survive when Alex finds out who Dorian really is?
I liked Alex and Dorian. They were a good match, if both a little unmemorable. Still I did enjoy the story in the book, as well as the ongoing story arch of the series. This was a quick, easy read. I love the world-building in this series, as well as the suspenseful atmosphere it has. Overall, this was a good, easy read. I definitely recommend this paranormal romance series!
So… I’m on the fence about Dragon Night. On the one hand, if you’re unfamiliar with the Dragon Kings world, it’s a great intro to the series (as is the norm with 1001 Dark Night novellas). But because it has so much info stuffed into it, it is a bit overwhelming if you haven’t started from the beginning of the series. In addition, Dorian and Alexandra are such intriguing characters, both with backgrounds that are so tragic and interesting, so it seems a bit of a shame that this is a novella and we don’t have the page space to delve into their stories more. That being said, I really did enjoy the book, the story is super interesting, it just felt like a bit of a whirlwind to me. It did serve the purpose of making me want to read the series from the beginning at some point in time, though in a world as vast as the one created by Donna Grant, I know that I’ll have to wait until I can fully commit to diving in. 3.5 out of 5 wine glasses.
4.5 stars–DARK NIGHT is instalment 13.5 in Donna King’s contemporary, adult DARK KINGS paranormal/fantasy series, and the latest instalment in the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights series. This is coral dragon Dorian, and billionaire philanthropist Alexandra Sheridan’s story line. DRAGON NIGHT can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading the series in order.
SOME BACKGROUND: The DARK KINGS is a spinoff from Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. The Dark Fae and their King Taraeth, along with the Silver Dragon Mikkel have declared war on the Dragon Kings by exposing the dragon’s existence to humankind. The last wars between man and the world of the paranormal saw a great loss of life on all sides but someone or something is determined to push the Dragons back into another war; Mikkel wants to become King of the Silvers, Queen Usaeil of the Light Fae has set her sights on claiming King Constantine as her mate, and the Dark Fae want the Dragon’s hidden weapon in order to rule Scotland and the rest of the world.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Dorian and Alexandra) DRAGON NIGHT follows the building relationship between coral dragon Dorian, and billionaire philanthropist Alexandra Sheridan. A Fae artifact, dating back to the last war between dragons and human, has been located in New York. All attempts to purchase the object have been met with negativity and refusal by the current owner, billionaire philanthropist Alexandra Sheridan, and she has no intentions of giving up any part of her family collection. King Constantine needs to awaken one of the remaining sleeping Dragon Kings, in an attempt to procure the unknown object but the dragon in question despises the human race. Enter Coral Dragon King Dorian, asleep in the mountains for millions of years, and the dragon sent to get up close and personal with the object’s current owner. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Alexandra and Dorian, and the potential fall-out as Dorian is targeted by an unknown assailant.
DRAGON NIGHT is a revealing story line where Dorian confesses a little more about the last great war between the dragons and humans, and the ensuing aftermath wherein the Dragon Kings were sent to sleep. The Druids and Dark Fae appear to have aligned themselves with a powerful foe; Queen Usaeil is not above playing dirty to get who and what she wants; and Rhi is caught between allegiance and love.
Donna Grant’s DARK KINGS is a captivating and intriguing series that continues to build with each successive instalment. Along with the author’s Reaper Series, the potential for war, and the list of combatants is growing in possibility and numbers. The relationship between Dorian and Alexandra is one of immediate attraction, and Con’s acceptance of humans for dragon mates is going much smoother than anyone could have imagined.
4.5 stars
Con has reluctantly awoken Dorian from dragon sleep to obtain an artifact with his ability. Dorian hates humans and wants nothing to do with them. He has been asleep since the dragons were sent away. Being sent after an artifact owned by Alexandra Sheridan doesn’t change his opinion until he spends a day with her. Alex changes his perception and allows him to overcome his grief after thousands of years.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. Since Dorian is a new dragon to the story I didn’t expect to like him as much. I was pleasantly surprised when I found that I loved both them and didn’t want to put the book down.
I really can’t wait to get Rhi’s story. We keep getting closer to finding out who her king is and i am anxious to see what will happen between them. I also can’t wait to see what is going to happen with the confrontation of Usaeil.
