Royden had a need to visit his family home, he wanted to find something that he and his brother had buried.
Annita has lived on the land since birth, and she learned when she was young of a prophecy that was told to her parents about her.
A dragon she was going to find a dragon? Of all the funny things for her grandmother to tell her.
There is a pull and neither of them can ignore it. But will it be all that was foretold? Or a mistake?
I absolutely love this authors tales of dragons and their mates. I can’t wait to read the next one.
**I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book**
What I loved about this story that I felt was lacking and dismissive in other full novels in the series was the inclusion of family. While Lily’s family was peripherally mentioned in Night’s Blaze because Kyle played such a pivotal role, most everyone else’s family was pretty much abandoned because there would be too many questions when aging became an issue. Heaven forbid they keep in touch before that happens, but the justification of the danger surrounding them was thin at best. In Dragon Lost integrated Annita’s family really well giving them enough information to feel safe with their daughter following the prophecy while not overwhelming and endangering them.
Annita’s family was fantastic on their own as they played an incredible role and were included, considered. They were supportive and open and as encouraging as they could be. Having something deep and abiding can only be a benefit not just to Annita, but to the Kings as a whole. Isolating themselves from potential allies in any form was an error that they are realizing far too late in the game.
The cavern scene where Royden shows Annita his past is something incredibly unique in the series. No king up to this point has had something so completely untouched, a place or thing that connected the past with the dragon, with the now, and with the mate. Passion did follow the reveal, but it was the wholly unique experience that was moving.
One bit of information on the Others made me think I missed something in the preceding stories, but it was insight only brought up as Royden was telling Annita their story up to that point. Having re-read every story from the entire Dark World series in order over the last few days up to posting this review I know I didn’t miss anything. Anyway, it was a moment that took me out of the story until I realized it was something new.
For such a short story to feel so full and complete with a very different storyline as the series both ramps up and winds down this was so well done and incredibly memorable. Its simplicity and the way it feels out of place is actually its strength as it focuses on the romance and how mates strengthen their dragon kings rather than divides and distracts them from the threat of the Others. For the family aspect alone this has such a high rating for me and I’m ready again to jump into the next book of the series.
The war is getting closer between the Others and the Dragon Kings. This was a short, cute story where another Dragon King met his match. Royden is back home looking for something is brother hid.something is brother hid. Annita has been told by the Seer in her family that she will find a dragon. Quick read that is a great addition not only to the Dark King series but the 1001 Dark Nights series as well.
This was a really cute story and a nice addition to this ongoing series .Royden and Annita were characters that were easy to love and their relationship and mating was a fast one but, it was a heartfelt one.Annita was a self reliant and independent women and one who paid attention to the visions and prophecies that her great Aunt predicted.
A one chance meeting and it was all it took for these two to fall in love. We loved Royden as he seemed somewhat lost and broken and a bit mysterious but, meeting Annita for the first time awakened something inside him that he thought long gone.
Royden and Annita were perfect for one another and the chemistry evident from their very first meeting but, we loved the fact that Annita wanted to know who his was completely both in human forum and as well as a Dragon.
This whole series is rather intriguing and we are loving its character’s and we can’t wait to see where destiny takes these two.
Overall this was a cute and enjoyable read for us and as characters go Annita and Royden were so easy to love.
I love Donna Grant’s dragons, this is a novella that is intense but had everything. Royden an Annita, I so wanted to know about Royden’s story. We get a new couple, Annita who tells him about a prophecy and Royden who needs to find his lost treasure. The world of the dark kings is phenomenal, I always enjoy the stories.
DRAGON LOST by Donna Grant is book 16.5 in the Dark Kings Series. This is the story of Annita and Royden. I have read the previous book which has added to my enjoyment of this one but with this novel, I did feel it could be a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Annita is from a Greek family and a ancestor foretold of her marrying a Dragon. Royden is the Dragon King of the Beiges who has returned to Greece in search of something that is hidden. Annita happens upon Royden when she is exploring sea caves near her family home. Royden knows she is his mate but he is worried about the danger he would be bringing her in to. Enjoyed this quick read and of course this author’s writing!
Annita was told she would meet a dragon someday, and when swimming in the caves along the family beach, she comes across a man swimming — or was he a big beige dragon first? As much as Royden wants to make her believe she was only dreaming, Annita knows what she saw and what her grandmother told her was foreseen for her.
Once Royden finds Annita he feels compelled to stay with her, even though Con, the King of the Dragon Kings (when do we get his story!) is concerned about him and wants to know when he’s coming back. So Royden stays and gets to know Annita, breaking the rules to tell her the history of the dragon kings before leaving. He’s given her a week to decide if she wants him as a mate, which does come with some conditions and some sacrifices.
I got involved with this series reading an earlier novella from Donna Grant in this 1001 Dark Nights series. It’s a great way to get a taste of a series, and see if you might light an author’s storytelling. I found this Dragon Kings series and I was hooked on this world of Dragon Kings with the Scottish accents! They are lots of fun and very romantic, so if that’s your jam, you might like this series.
I don’t read a whole lot of fantasy stories, but I love 1001 Dark Knight Novella’s. I was wary because this is book 16.5 in the series! But its okay..I was able to follow along and read it as a standalone.
I enjoyed the characters and their personalities. Annita is a fierce soul. She fights for what she believes in to her soul. Royden just made me melt. Dragon Lost has a dash of romance, throw in some steamy bits, and a lot of soul. I really enjoyed this book!
3.75 stars–DRAGON LOST is the 16.5 instalment and novella in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult DARK KINGS paranormal, fantasy, romance series and the latest instalment in the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights series. This is beige Dragon King Royden Dreagan, and Annita Dragoumis’ story line. DRAGON CLAIMED can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading the series in order.
SOME BACKGROUND: The DARK KINGS is a spinoff from Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. The Dark Fae and their King Taraeth, along with the Silver Dragon Mikkel had declared war on the Dragon Kings by exposing the dragon’s existence to humankind. The last wars between man and the world of the paranormal saw a great loss of life on all sides but someone or something is determined to push the Dragons back into another war; Mikkel wanted to become King of the Silvers, Queen Usaeil of the Light Fae had set her sights on claiming King Constantine as her mate, and the Dark Fae want the Dragon’s hidden weapon in order to rule Scotland and the rest of the world. With the emergence of a group known as the Others, the Dark Kings are facing several supernatural enemies determined to destroy them all.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Royden and Annita) DRAGON LOST follows beige Dragon King shifter Royden as he searches his cave on the isle of Crete, for a family heirloom lost hundreds of years before but Royden is stunned when a Greek beauty witnesses his shifting, and accepts that there are dragons in the world. Annita Dragoumis has always known her destiny was to find a dragon but our heroine had no idea if the dragon was a fantasy, a reality or a small toy left behind by a heart broken child. Meeting Royden meant her destiny had been fulfilled but Royden struggles with the knowledge that Annita is aware of the dragons’ existence. What ensues is the quick building romance and relationship between Royden and Annita, and the potential fall-out as Annita must chose between her family back home, or starting over with Royden at Dreagan in Scotland.
The relationship between Royden and Annita begins cautiously but there are some details to Annita’s destiny that now even Annita has been apprised. Both her mother and father know some details of the ‘seer’s’ predictions but Annita was never to have known about her future destiny. Royden struggles with his attraction to Annita knowing that the war with the Others could destroy them all but the heart wants his happily ever after, and Royden offers up a lifetime to his future mate. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Annita’s mother and father, and through memories of the past, Annita’s great aunt Chara, a seer who proclaimed Annita’s destiny to find her Dragon King.
DRAGON LOST is a fast paced story line of destiny and love. The premise is engaging; the romance is tender and captivating; the characters are colorful and dynamic but saying that I struggled to understand where Royden’s story line fits into the series other than to gift another Dark King with his fated mate.
I really enjoyed this story. The overall story arc was not really advanced in this novella but it was a very enjoyable story. If you don’t like Insta love/connection then this story might not be for you. The characters are quite well rounded given the length of the story. I would like to see how these characters will slot into the overall story in the next full length book.
The newest installment of the Dragon Kings, Dragon Lost, is a well delivered, exciting read. This may be classed as a novella but be reassured Annita and Royden’s story is a must read. Fate, family and forever, extraordinary characters wrapped in the pages of this fabulous story.
I received an ARC of this book and I’m voluntarily leaving an honest review
This book was short but sweet! You are pulled in from the very first moment and before you know it you are unable to put it down. Be prepared for a very fast ride that you cannot wait to do again!
Dragon Lost gets 4 stars from me because it delivered on the 1,001 Dark Nights theme of entertaining bedtime stories. As a fan of this series, I absolutely want each book related to the Dark Kings saga to be full of all sorts of character and plot detail, but it’s nice to sort of let go and just let these characters “be”, which is exactly what the reader gets in one of these novellas. In this case, there was just enough dragon lore shared by Royden, one of the Dragon Kings, to help a reader new to the series figure out the general gist of things. I liked that it came across in a fluid way, rather than as an information dump. Royden was an interesting character, and his remorse for both the war that was and the war that is coming were recognizable in his words and actions. I appreciated that he was willing to share his story with Annita, all while allowing her the space to figure out if she wanted to ultimately be a part of such an uncertain future. I do wish I’d been able to get more of a feel for Annita and her Seer abilities, but I did like that she is a woman willing to face her fears and brave the unknown. I’m hoping we’ll see more of how she (along with the other mates) plays a role in the battle that is coming.
In Donna Grant’s latest tale, we venture to Greece, a land known for it’s myths and legends. We meet Annita Dragoumis who, when she was a child, overhead her parents discussing the prophecy that says she will find a dragon. When Annita finds Royden, in dragon form, her life changes. Royden, the King of the Beige dragons, returns to Greece looking for something he lost before the dragons left. So why does he let a human see him in his true form? Why can’t he leave & return to Scotland where the Kings are dealing with everything? Can Annita continue on with her life as it is knowing that some myths are true?
Royden & Annita’s story unfolds in a beautiful land whose people embrace what others refuse to believe. Theirs is a sweet love story. Now we just have to wait to see how this will strengthen the Kings?
Dragon Lost is the next novella on the Dragon King series by the lovely Donna Grant. While any of the series can be read as a standalone, I personally recommend reading in the series in order to get the full dynamic of the story.
Royden, the King of the Beige Dragons has returned to his long forgotten home for a even longer forgotten relic , what he finds however changes his life in a way he wasn’t expecting.
Annita has always loved the caves that surround her home, the keep caverns of Greece that she has always lost herself too. From a young age, Annita was told she would meet a dragon, she just didn’t know what it meant…
Until Royden..
Royden and Annita have a spark of fire that can’t be denied, one that flares to life whenever they are together. When secrets are told and the truth is uncovered, will Annita make the right choice? Or will history have a way of biting one in the tail?
As always, I loved every word and binged through it the second I got it! I can’t wait for what comes next!!
I received a ARC as part of Donna Grant’s ARC Angels for a honest review.
I LOVED these characters so much. The only thing I can say negative is the fact it was a novella. 🙂
I loved Annita’s sassy spirit and straightforward personality and Royden was everything you’d expect out of a dragon king. Their story is sweet and I can’t wait to see them again in the upcoming books.
Years ago Annita’s grandmother told her that her destiny was a dragon. While diving in the caves off the coast of Crete, she encounters what she thinks is a dragon, but on second look she see’s only a gorgeous man.
Royden had left Dreagon to come to the Crete for search for something his brother had buried in the caves long ago. Tired when he arrived, he lay down to rest and was surprised by the appearance of a beautiful woman. While he knows he has a duty to protect the dragon kings, he is inexplicably drawn to her. Though he makes an effort to get her to think he was only a dream, Annita can’t seem to shake the vision of the man she is sure she saw in the caves.
As this story is a novella, the relationship happened quickly, but that didn’t distract from the force and emotion of the story. With Dragon Lost, Donna Grant has forwarded the story of the fascinating characters that are the Dragon Kings. Missing a Dragon King story is to miss out on an incredibly colorful, incredibly intense new world that consistently draws the reader into the story.
I received an ARC of this story and voluntarily offer this review.
This book is a Novella in the Dark Kings Series. It is book 16.5. It tells the story of Annita and Royden. Annita is from Crete and has been told that her destiny is to find a Dragon. But what kind of Dragon? Real or fake? Royden just wants to find something his brother hid from him many, many years ago. In a cave that Annita has been swimming to for as long as she can remember her life is changed and nothing will ever be the same. Royden is such an amazing guy and the connection he has with Annita is fast and hard. Like all of Donna Grants characters Royden is the type of man only found in dreams.
I am totally in love with Royden and Annita. As a long time reader of all things Donna Grant, her stories in the 1001 Dark Nights series always pull my heart in immediately.
You can believe from the very beginning they are mates. Royden wasn’t looking for a mate. Annita’s future was foretold that she would find a dragon. Destiny, fate, kismet…You can believe it. This is a romance set in a beautiful location with fully developed strong characters that you fall in love with.
Do yourself a favor and READ THIS BOOK!!
Dragon Lost
by Donna Grant
A prophecy with very little information, but meant to bring two people together. Donna Grant has once again charmed us with this sweet story of finding destiny.
When destiny says your to meet, who’s to argue with that. Annita’s been aware of her destiny since she was a teenager. But, from there she’s unsure with what’s to happen. Because the full prophecy was kept from her, she’s uncertain how it’s to play out.
Royden was back home with for a quick errand. He had to find what his brother took from him and hid. But, upon meeting Annita, she announces that she was to meet a dragon. As he tries to convince her to leave, she bombards him with questions. To continue his search, he uses his magic to put her into a sleep and suggest it was a dream.
Unable to find his grandfathers claw, he might as well find out about this so called prophecy. He’s unsure why he’s in her prophecy, making him worried that this might involve Annita being his potential mate, and that’s something he does not want!
As the two meet again and begin to work through the prophecy, their feelings increase, and his suspicions are confirmed that she’s his mate. Giving her a chance to reflect, he gives her a week to decide. Unfortunately they get their wires crossed, causing heart break.
To find out what happens, you’ll have to read it for yourself.
