I need to explain that I have not read anything paranormal before. So let me tell you know what happened?! I loved it. Annita and Royden relationship was enjoyable and captivating and I wished it to be much much longer.
I’ve been avoiding these types of books because my TBR list is already a mile long but after finish this story it’s going to be even longer than it is because I’m (obviously) missing out

Dragon Lost is a novella set within the Dark Kings world and part of the 1001 Dark Nights compilation. Even though this is a novella and this quite an easy quick read, I still find it highly entertaining and Ms Grant did a wonderful job writing us the story of 2 lovers finding each other and their place in resolution of this saga.
Ryoden and Annita were pretty well fleshed out given its constraints as a novella. Annita came off as a strong partner for Ryoden, indeed an asset to him. Royden, Dragon King of the Beiges returned to his ancestral home in Greece in search of something that was hidden. He didn’t expect to find his mate Annita in the caves and from the get go their attraction was intense. There was some background info for those new to this series so that you will not get lost.
All in all, it was a satisfying read and I couldn’t wait for the next full length novel to come out.
This was the first book I have read by Donna Grant but it will not be the last. I really enjoyed it. I am a sucker for Dragon shifter stories and this one did not disappoint. Annita, philosophized to meet a dragon. Royden, on a quest to find something that was lost. Fate brought them together but now they have to decide if their love is worth pursuing. This was a quick read that was captivating from beginning to end.
A short tale in the Dragon world of destiny, prophesies and a bond that cannot be ignored. Annita has known since she was little that she would meet a dragon, though when was not known. She loves her home, the ocean and the caves that surround her. One day she sees something that should scare her. Yet the fear is not there. Fascinated, she throws herself into the mystery that is Royden. Royden only came to his home to find something of importance to him. He never expected Annita. Their attraction is intense. He can’t help but show her everything. But will it be enough for his mate to choose him? No action in this one, just a little love between a dragon and his mate.
Annita has always known that her destiny involves a dragon. Her aunt foretold that she would find a dragon, but as the years passed and no dragon appeared she thinks that it might be a mistake. While swimming in the caves near her home she stumbles upon a beige dragon, who quickly turns into a man. Royden just wants to find an item his brother hid from him and go back to Dreagan, but instead he finds a beautiful woman who says she was destined to find a dragon.
I enjoyed this quick Dragon King story. Annita and Royden had a sweet romance that I enjoyed and wanted more of. I do wish we had seen a little more action in this book. There were a couple times when I thought there was going to be some big thing happen, or some more information about the item Royden was searching for but it never happens.
Overall, this was a nice addition to the series. I do wish it had been a little longer though.
Thank you Inkslinger and the author for a complimentary copy. I voluntarily reviewed this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Dragon Lost
A Dark Kings Novella
By:Donna Grant
*REVIEW*
Dragon Lost is a 1001 Dark Nights Collection novella and part of the Dark Kings series by Donna Grant. The story is paranormal, but it also has elements of romance, drama and intrigue. This is the tale of Royden, a dragon king, and Annita, his mate. They meet when Royden returns to the place he was born. It’s basically insta love, but in this story it seems more about fate than something silly, so it works. In this scenario, insta love is appropriate. They are mates, after all. Royden and Annita have a romantic engaging story that reads quickly. I enjoyed reading Dragon Lost, and I will read more of this series. A nice addition to the 1001 Dark Nights Collection!
Dragon Lost is a love story between Annita and Royden. It had been foretold she would find a dragon and that is exactly what she did. Annita had a blind trust in Royden from the start. I particularly enjoyed her moxie and verbal sparring with him. I found the book contained a complete, fascinating account of the Dragon King’s history and could easily be read as a stand alone novella. But be prepared to be drawn into a world of dragons, druids, fae and love never ending. Fear not as there are Dragon Kings a plenty throughout Donna Grant’s exciting Dark World series. I purchased my copy off of Amazon and give my honest opinion.
Annita is destined to find a dragon, little does she ever suspect it may be a real one. Royden has spent eons away from humanity, it’s time for him to come out. A short novella with a peek inside the elusive King of the Beige’s and his foretold mate. Even though the page count is not long, it is filled with fabulous character development, witty banter, and excitement. We are ramping up for the conclusion of this series, and Dragon Lost is a great way to build on that. Definitely worth your one click!
This novella is book 16.5 in the Dark Kings series and it is Annita and Royden’s story. Annita was told that she would meet a dragon as part of a prophecy foretold by her aunt who was a great seer. Not putting much faith into thinking dragons were real, Annita did not know how to reconcile her aunt’s vision with reality. However, everything she believed fell away once she encountered Royden in the caves near her family’s home. Royden is King of the Beige dragons who returned to the caves seeking an heirloom from his family’s past and is startled by Annita. While admiring her gumption, he is unsure if it is wise to let her remember their interaction so he lets her sleep it off. Unfortunately, neither one is prepared to let the other go and what follows is a look at how they came together. As part of the 1001 Dark Nights collection, this fits in nicely as it will entertain readers. I was hoping for a little more drama as the storyline lent itself to have more included but instead fell a little short. There were snippets of a possibility of Annita coming into seer powers but it was not really addressed and I hope that future books with Annita and Royden will add to their story. I volunteered to read an advance copy of this book.
Annita was always fated to meet a dragon but she thought it was going to happen soon. She meets Royden while swimming and he turns out to be a dragon shifter. Royden never expected to meet this entrancing woman. Now the two have to decide if love is worth fighting for or just to let it go. A quick, good read.
Another fantastic addition to the Dark Nights collection!
Donna Grant was a new author for me when I started this novella, which in IMO, is the idea behind the Dark Nights collection.
As readers, we get a chance to dip our toes into a new author’s universe.
Meet some of their characters.
Get a taste for his/her writing style.
All in a complete short/novella length story that promises to entertain and delight.
Annita was such an easy heroine to like. She just rolled with the adventures as they were happening. She lived by the belief that you can either embrace the unknown and see where the journey takes you. or you can duck and cover … but then you will always be asking “what if?”
Royden was a more subtle soul. Years of loss and “what if’s?” had left him a bit wary and skeptical. But Annita called to him on an almost primal level.
He couldn’t walk away.
He didn’t want to walk away.
This is a life mate story so the chemistry is there from the moment our couple meets.
A sweet romance where the past and present collide.
I acquired the first book in the series as soon as I closed the pages on Annita and Royden.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
The Dragon Kings are at it again! This novella features Royden and Annita. It was foretold she find a dragon. What type she didn’t know. Until she saw him in one of her caves.
He was surprised she wasn’t scared of him. Her prophecy intrigued him. Was she for real or was she part of the Others? Scary times for the Kings as they decipher who’s friend or foe.
Their love story is quick and easy. It will give you all the feels of a Dragon King novel but with out all the drama that usually unfolds. This will wet you whistle until the next novel releases!
Dragon Lost is a novella in the Dragon Kings series. While it does not advance the plot line of the overall series, it does provide a mate for an elusive King. Set in the isle of Crete, the scenery is breathtaking. Royden returns to his ancestral home of Crete to find something long lost. Instead of finding the object his brother had hidden, he found his mate! Annita’s great aunt foretold the bond between Annita and her dragon. So when Annita found him, she knew instantly that he was her destiny. But life sometimes puts hurdles in the way. This was a delightful short tale of love and trust. My only complaint is that it was so short.
Royden is the Dragon King of the Beiges. He returns to Greece, his ancestral home, to search for something hidden. Royden did not expect to find his mate instead. He worries about bringing Annita into his world and exposing her to the Dragon Kings’ enemies. Will Royden give Annita up to protect her from harm? Or will their love prevail?
Annita Dragoumis is from an old yet prosperous Greek family. As foretold by a seer ancestor, her destiny is to find a dragon. Annita stumbles across Royden while exploring the sea caves near her family estate. What sacrifices will Annita’s destiny demand? Can she leave Greece and her family behind to be with Royden?
I cannot remember if Royden made appearances in prior books or not. As with Annita, the story was just too short to properly gauge his personality. I admire how Royden did not want to lie to Annita. He and the Dragon Kings use lies to protect their existence. However, even before Royden realizes Annita is his mate, he finds the idea of lying to her distasteful. What I like the most about Royden is how he gave Annita the space she needed to make her decision. He did not crowd her or demand that she to choose him. Royden understood what Annita was giving up to be his mate.
I really tried to like Annita. However, I felt there was not enough details in the story to get a feel for her personality. I like how Annita took her late grandmother’s advice on fear. Instead of allowing fear to dictate her life, she meets it head on. The only nitpick I have with Annita is her entitled attitude. It felt like she thought since it was her destiny to find a dragon, Royden should instantly trust her, especially with Dragon Kings’ knowledge.
DRAGON LOST is a novella in the 1001 DARK NIGHTS compilation. It is also book 16.5 in Donna Grant’s popular paranormal series, DARK KINGS. The story can stand alone since it does not really advance the series’ overall plot. It is an adequate filler to tide fans over until the next upcoming novel.
DRAGON LOST is a short tale about two people finding what they needed when they least expected it. I cannot wait for the next installment in Donna Grant’s world.
