When desire bites, there’s no patience for a slow burn. While all seems quiet in Gladium Province, the Morgon Guard—the global justice force for the dragon hybrid race—knows their enemy is rebuilding its forces in the underground. Valla Moonring, an assassin for the Order of the Morgon Guard, is ordered on a mission into the Wastelands of Aria—a formidable, icy wilderness fraught with all manner … fraught with all manner of dangers, including outlaws, deadly weather, and big-game predators.
To her great distaste, she’s partnered with a Nightwing Security operative, Conn Rowanflame, a Morgon with the aggravating ability to get under her skin. While she takes her mission seriously, Conn’s confident charm throws her off balance, a dangerous place to be in conditions like these. Especially when cold nights require close contact.
Sensual attraction binds them ever closer, igniting a passion of unexpected force—the soulfire. But when the hunters become the hunted, their bond could prove perilous. Even fatal…

The man who owned me, body and soul, was magnificent and powerful and alpha to the fucking core.
Another epic tale from the fabulous Juliette Cross!!! I love her world of magnificent dragons and the morgon dragons are so captivating,I just can’t get enough!! This is conn rowanflame and valla moonring’s story. Conn is a top nightwing officer of his clan and a natural born flirt who can sway any woman be it human or dragon, but with valla all he seems to do is get her hackles up. Valla is a strong independent woman who is one of the top officers in the morgon guard ,so when her brother has her team up with the handsome flirty firedancer Conn and quite mysterious bowen hunterglide on a mission to find out the location of the blood king not only will these three find out more about each, but the walls that valla has built around her heart will come crashing down. This is a beautiful love story and the chemistry between valla and conn is as hot as a dragon’s fire!!! One of the reason’s i love julette cross’s books is her storylines and characters are so interesting ,even second characters who’s stories are but a pen stroke away are compelling like bowen and a new one Bastien Silverback I really like this outlaw badboy and i Can’t wait for this sexy as sin dragon’s story!!! So many awesome dragons and dragoness!! And I also love her creatures that show up like the wulving razor who is so friggin adorable ,but deadly!! 5 must read!!
I had missed this world SO MUCH!!! It had been a while since I read the first book in this series. But once I started this one, it was like I’d never left.
I was back in…way in… loving everything and everyone. Seeing all the characters from the other books was such a pleasure and so fulfilling, making my heart happy. I had missed them.
Conn…such a sweet talker, a player, yet he wants Valla. Badly. So he tries to behave. But how can he behave when he wants to be so naughty with her. And there’s this burning ache in his chest screaming at him that he needs her. A lot.
Valla is fierce, independent, a serious badass, doesn’t need anyone…especially someone like Conn. She’s never had to depend on a man before, so no reason to start now. But dang…he sure does make it hard for her to ignore him, and not imagine him doing naughty things to her.
Their chemistry was HOT. I could feel it sparking when they were near each other. Their passion was delicious and I loved them together.
More mystery and suspense had me flipping through the pages. Never a dull moment! More deliciously rich descriptions pulled me into this amazing world of sexy Morgon men and beautiful and fierce women that own their hearts. The talented storytelling of this author blows me away more and more with each book of hers I read.
I couldn’t wait to dive into the next book, Dragon Fire! I think Kieren’s going to be my favorite.

Man, I loved this book. This book was pretty violent, considering what the Larkosians and the Blood King are doing. I loved the connection between Valla Moonring and Conn Rowenflame. Valla is a kick a*se ass*ssin in a special division of the Morgan Guard only for Morgan women, is extremely strong and independent to a fault. Valla has hated Conn from pretty much the first moment they met, for some reason he just rubbed her completely the wrong way so to make matters worse her brother Kol, who happens to be the leader of the Morgan Guard and he’s Valla’s superior gave orders to Valla that her and Bowen Hunterguild travel through the Wastelands of Aria to go to the Syren Sisters’ and find out any information on the women who recently left and joint the Larkosians with a member of Nightwing Security since it’s a joint mission and he’s chosen Conn. Valla basically undermines Kol’s leadership by asking him why it has to be Conn since they don’t get along but Kol tells her that since they have a traitor they’ve known Conn the longest and know that he’d never be the traitor so Kol trusts him, meaning he’s the best for the job. On their journey Valla and Conn are flirting/bickering constantly. Man, their chemistry is off the charts. This book doesn’t just focus on their love story as they’re trying to stop the Larkosians from taking over the world but you can still feel the connection between them and I liked the pace that their relationship moved and that they both didn’t accept their feelings for each other straight away as it wouldn’t be either of them, they both needed fight and passion. Even though Valla denies it throughout the book but Conn is exactly the Morgan for her and her for him, they just work. Conn took a lot of knocks from Valla in this book and her brother Kol witnessed the worst one. I’m looking forward to reading Kieran’s story next. I’d recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.
Juliette, just keep these amazing books coming! People we have another badass heroine among us and her name is Valla, who just happens to be the younger sister of Kol and she’s an assassin. And as stubborn as a bull, pair that up with someone that’s just as stubborn, you’re bound to have some major tension ignite between the two.
Gahhhhhh, loved this addition to the Vale of Stars series. Valla is definitely one of the fiercest of them all and being raised by Kol, she’s not exactly in touch with her emotional side when it comes to love. She was taught to be independent and to never rely on anyone. But sometimes that road can be a lonely one to walk and Conn does his best to show her that. Conn and Valla are such a delight to read about and they’re absolutely hilarious together. I kept wishing so hard that Valla would just give in to what could be between them. All they need to do is be honest with each other and share how they feel, although I feel like Conn was a bit more open about it, anyways.
I really loved Conn and his personality as a whole. He definitely knows how to kick up the charm and it’s something you can’t resist. What was Valla thinking?! I was game for the constant pushing of Valla’s button, it was so evident that he wanted her to just give in and we were all rooting for him.
I don’t know what it is but I’ve been loving watching these fiersome and alpha men fall in love. It definitely makes my heart feel all warm and fuzzy.
Besides all the awesome tension and romance, the underlying story continues. More questions are answered and some crazy revelations are brought up. It’s so darn intriguing and I’m just dying to know what will happen next.
Cross, you’ve done it again and again with this series. It has easily become one of my favorites for this genre!

4.5+ Stars
OMG!!!!! *yanking out hair* How could this have ended as it did!!!!??
Dragon in the Blood was so, so good. Gah! I need the next one in the series like, yesterday.
I don’t recommend reading this as a standalone, as the story arc begins in the first book and it’s totally awesome. Also, as I’ve mentioned before, catching up with the introductory novella-series, Nightwing, is the best way to immerse in this marvelous Morgon-world.
Before starting this book I knew I was going to get a kick-ass heroine. And Valla absolutely delivered. She was fierce, focused and willing to risk her life to protect others from evil. The fact that she was raised by her older brother Kol, meant that she was not overly in touch with her emotional side – she could do denial like a pro – and this got a bit on my nerves. That said, her overall kick-assness, sense of justice and the soft heart she hid behind killer swords made up for that.
Conn was a pleasure to read about. He was charming, fun and had an overall chillaxed vibe about him but, at the same time, he was all alpha, bossy, and protective Morgon hunk. I completely loved the way he went about getting under Valla’s skin, he loved to poke her, rile her and butt heads with her. It was so much fun to see these two drive each other crazy!
Their chemistry and attraction was undeniable, although Valla gave it a good try. The sexual tension between them was palpable, and when they do get together, well, Conn wasn’t a firedancer for nothing.
With lots of action and intrigue, romance and sexiness, heartbreak and hope, the storyline unfolds and gets more complicated. With unexpected twists and turns, Dragon in the Blood will keep you glued to the pages.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book*
Dragon in the Blood by Juliette Cross is book Two in the Vale of Stars series. This is the story of Valla Moonring and Conn Rowanflame. This book can be made into a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Valla is Kol’s sister who we met in the previous book. Valla was raised by Kol and became a strong women who became an assassin for the Morgon Guard. When there is a new mission that needs a women to go with others to the Wastelands of Aria, Valla is on board. Conn is one of the others that will be going which her brother thinks can help keep her safe. Conn has made several attempts to get to know Valla better but she does take well to his attempts. This trip leads them to more than finding answers about the evil blood King…it leads them to not being able to fight their feelings any longer.
Along with being an exciting read, I enjoyed the bickering/play between the two a lot.
Enjoyed this story!
Another great read from a great author. In the 2nd book of the Vale of Stars series we get to know Valla Moonring and Conn Rowanflame. Raised by her protective and domineering older brother, Valla isn’t your typical heroine, instead she is an assassin for the elite Order of the Morgon Guard. And she can kick butt!! Conn has his hands full with his attraction to her during a dangerous mission they are assigned together. His protective instincts tend to step all over Valla’s toes and he has to learn to back off and allow her to use her strengths and training. Together they traverse the wilds of Aria, a forbidding icy world full of hidden dangers and surprising helping hands. Keep reading for the next adventure of the Morgons in the Gladium Province.
Dragon in the Blood is a wonderful and exciting book about humans and Morgons, the delicious dragon hybrid race created by the author. The Morgons know their human enemies have gone underground to rebuild their ranks. When Morgan assassin Valla Moonring is dispatched to the Wastelands of Aria, she’s paired up with Conn Rowanflame, a Nightwind security operative. Valla is a strong, independent character who takes her job very seriously. Charming Conn gets under her skin any moment he can, throwing Valla off her game. When their chemistry ignites and their bond strengthens, it puts them in extreme danger.
This is another great novel and once I began reading, I was hooked. The story is engaging, and the characters are wonderful. I enjoyed the interactions between Valla and Conn. I love the tension the author builds up between the hero and heroine of her stories. I love both Valla and Conn. The way they are written is swoon-worthy.
Dragon in the Blood is a riveting, fast paced story told with passion. I love Juliette Cross’s writing style and the way she tells stories. Her ability to create paranormal stories with romance, action and a solid plot is what keeps me coming back.
