It takes a special kind of magic to hide in plain sight. A new series by USA Today bestselling author, Sarah K. L. Wilson. I’ve been hiding all my life but now I’m doing it for my country. My partner in crime?A chameleon dragon who takes things way too seriously. They keep telling me that the world hangs in the balance, but I try not to take things like explosions, spies, and illicit magic too … but I try not to take things like explosions, spies, and illicit magic too seriously.
After all, I get to ride a dragon!
That is … when she lets me.
Perfect for dragon lovers everywhere, DRAGON CHAMELEON: ROGUE is episode one of a brand new series set in the world of DRAGON SCHOOL. It’s the perfect beginning for readers new to this fantasy world but still contains hidden gems for long-time fans. Enjoy!

Rogues’s Quest was absolutely terrific, and possibly even better than Sarah K Wilson’s Dragon School series (although maybe that was just my pleasure at being back in the glorious, dragon-filled world of both series which I have missed since Dragon School ended).
Tor is an absolute delight to spend time with – smart and sassy and a little bit too cocky for his own good. There was a fabulous gap between his expectations and what the reader knew which kept me smiling all the way through. Tor has a lot of learning to do and I can’t wait to watch while he grows.
Highly recommended!
New series from Sarah K.L. Wilson and follows after Dragon School. Loving it so far. Have read Books 1 & 2. Each story is novella length with cliffhanger endings, so be prepared to commit to the whole series. It’s fun reading and worth it.
This was a great fantasy. If you love dragons and magic, then this series is a must read. I can’t wait to read the next episode.
I would say this us for a younger audience, probably young teens. That being said, there is a lot happening. It’s reasonably short. It teaches loyalty, friendship, trust, and other values. There are dragons!
Fun first installment in the series about new dragon-rider Tor, a teenage thief and survivor, and his dragon Saboraak. Witty and entertaining all the way through. A few parts felt a little repetitive, but overall a great original adventure just waiting to be embraced. Dragons, magic, danger… what’s not to like? I will be picking up book 2 to see what happens to Tor and his new friends next.
That was a fun read. I loved it. I am not a dragon person in general yet I loved the world and the characters. It was easy to imagine and slide through. I’m hooked in the world and will continue the series. I also can’t wait to see what will happen in book two, but I have 2 reservations that if they weren’t there, this book would have become my new favorite Indie.
1- There were three important scenes where the situation was defused by what I consider a plot device. Things that happened that made the protagonists life either which I felt came out of nowhere just to help the story move forward without Tor having to do anything.
2- The story was predictable and none of my predictions proved me wrong.
3- there were certain speeches that didn’t need to be in the story and having it there made me cringe what the thing happened after, while if it wasn’t there, I would have found it a surprise.
With that said, I would like to repeat that this was an enjoyable and easy read for me, but I’m someone who also enjoys the journey.
A great start to a new Epic Fantasy!
This book picks up where the last Dragon School Book Ends, so the situation is clear to those having read the previous series. However, the focus, or “Hero” of this book appears to be Tor, a ragamuffin who had been promised a place in the Dragon School when Hubric returned for him. However, due to the war from the preceeding series, circumstances have altered plans for Tor.
Initially, Tor is not very likeable, as he has been hardened by street-living in a war zone which is now only rubble. There are glimpses of the kind of young man he COULD become, if given the basic necessities of life, love and guidance—all of which are missing in his life. Even in this episode, we see some improvements in his attitudes, but major changes await. A key player in his development may well be a dragon!
In so few pages, a major story has a basis laid that promises a good adventure for the reader. I find myself, as with the initial series, eagerly awaiting the next episode.
What a great continuation of the Dragon School legacy. Must read them all. Though this new hero
Takes some getting use to. But what a great character arch this is going to be.
A female dragon and a trickster human male
Tor wants a dragon of his own. He teams up with Saboraak and she is not what he expects in a dragon. They make a great team. The characters are well developed. I really enjoyed this book. The series promises to be interesting. I can’t wait to see what those two get into next. They now have three new comrades to worry about also. This is a fun, easy read.
I have been binge-happy lately, getting really into book series and not able to put them down. Probably at the top of my list of binge-worthy series is Sarah K. L. Wilson’s Dragon Chameleon series, set in the same world as her fabulous Dragon School series (which I’ve re-read more than once and highly recommend). I’d read one of the Dragon Chameleon books before and loved it. When the latest, City of Ice, came out I just had to start from book 1 and binge read through the whole thing. That book 1, Rogue’s Quest, was the perfect way to start a sequel series, placing it clearly in the works of Dragon School (but in a way that totally works as an intro that world for readers who don’t plan on reading that series) while introducing Tor (a wonderful scoundrel of a character) and – most importantly – his dragon partner, Saboraak, the dragon chameleon and the spy mission handed over to them by Hubric. I love the totally different “voices” of these characters and, especially, how Tor and Saboraak interact. Added to a pretty darn exciting book this definitely drew me in and started a new addiction. That addiction only worsened with book 2, Paths of Deception. The action heated up with this one bit, to me even more importantly, the character development went into overdrive. It was a total pleasure watching Tor evolve over the course of these pages – an evolution that was perfectly done. Added to yet another great plot and a cast of great characters (especially Shabren, Bataar, and sisters Zyla and Zin) and I couldn’t wait to dive into book 3. Luckily I had that book 3 (the reason I started my binge read, after all). City of Ice was, quite simply, superb. Things are looking pretty bad for Tor, Saboraak and their friends (especially Bataar) but I wouldn’t count them out. Once again an exciting story, and once again loads of fun watching Tor develop into a superb character. Really that character development, and the character building of the cast in general, is what made this book and the entire series so special. It already had a great story arc and individual book plots full of action, adventure, wild twists and turn and pretty darn nicely done humor. I’d have given the series a five based on that, but the character development is what makes this series truly exceptional. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. Each of the books in this series definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that this series is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. A recommendation – and five stars – that I’m happy to apply to this first book in the series.
Wow I am loving this new Series, its fast paced and action packed. Tor (trout) and Soboraak are great there bantering with one another makes me laugh. But they are there for on another. There being chased. The have some friends there also helping. This read is none stop action that really keeps you turning those pagez because you can’t wait whats going to happen next. This Author hits a home run again. A definite recommend. A Must read Dragon series.

Dragon Chameleon: Rogue’s Quest is book one in Sarah K.L. Wilson’s new spin-off series from the Dragon School serial. This story picks up after the destruction of the cities and follows a young vagabond by the name of Tor. He’s waiting on his friend to come and take him to a better life, but something isn’t right in the world. He sees something strange, learns something terrifying and now he has an opportunity for a new life…a change has come, but danger lurks at every turn.
Dragon Chameleon Rogue’s Quest is a good start to this new series. We are introduced to new characters but a familiar storyline as this is still in the Dragon School world. I’ll admit that my mind kept wanting to make the main character a girl, but I soon got past that and accepted it’s a male main character this time. I have to admit that I love the dragon interactions between the characters. The humor is fantastic. I have to say that the old purple dragon has the best sense of humor. The storyline is well paced and definitely had me page-turning in certain scenes and situations.
Mind you, this is a serial so the story is short, but it is well done. I’m eager to read the next book in this series to learn what happens next with Tor and his new companions. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. If you read Sarah K.L. Wilson’s Dragon School series and enjoyed it then, by all means, grab this book up! A new journey has begun and you don’t want to miss out!
4.5 stars. Think before you leap.
I really liked it. I hadn’t even read one page and already I was fully captivated. I read the Dragon School series and this is set in that world. I don’t think this stands alone though. Better to read the Dragon School series first, to fully understand this world of dragons and Magikas etc. Complicated if you have no prior knowledge. This is episode one of a new adventure.
Because this story is set in the same world as Dragon School, I automatically started comparing. And I have to be honest: I had to get used to Tor. I loved Amel but I have to shake that off. Tor isn’t as likeable but he is funny, independent, and a real con artist. But also arrogant and headstrong, big mouth, big attitude. But secretly he has a good heart. Amel had a way of really talking (telepathing) WITH her dragon. Tor is more distant. He thinks about his dragon in the third form, example: “What was she saying?” They don’t get along immediately and that made for some funny conversations.
I did very much like the dry, honest sense of humor Saboraak (the Chameleon Dragon) has.
It was adventurous, fast-paced, and entertaining! Things happened so fast! Danger coming from everywhere! I do think a little more information would be better for those who haven’t read Dragon School. I really really really liked it, but for me, it hasn’t yet reached the high level of Dragon School. That series deserved 6 stars, but I could only give it 5. To show the difference, I decided to give this 4 stars, but it’s more 4.5 stars.
Dragon Chameleon: Rogue’s Quest is the first book in a new series from the incredibly talented Sarah K L Wilson. Set just after the wonderful Dragon School Series ended this book sees a familiar character take on a new apprentice Tor; and introduces us to a new Dragon. Saboraak already has my heart. This book will hook you from the start and I impatiently wait to find out what happens next. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
I don’t like the start of this one as much I as did with the Dragon School series. A lot has to do with that I don’t like Tor the main character. He’s arrogant, annoying and unlikable. I am hoping he becomes a better character in the books to come but if he stays this way I won’t finish reading this series. I loved Dragon School and a lot of that had to do with Amel and Raocolan. Lets hope the series gets better.
*I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
Tor has been waiting on Hubric to return and keep his promise, but has almost given up hope. Imagine his surprise when the old man actually shows up. Saboraak has gotten herself in a bit of trouble and is rescued by Tor and Hubric. Very unlikely pairing, but so interesting thus far. I can’t wait to see what these two get up too and how their personalities change and grow over time.
I really enjoyed reading this book. This is the first book in the newest Dragon School series, and this time around you meet Tor and the female dragon Saboraak. I’m definitely ready to embark on new adventures with this pair. If you are a fan of fantasy, dragons, and adventures, you should invest in this series. You can read it even if you haven’t read any of the books in the previous series without risking any spoilers (though I still recommend you read the first set if you haven’t already).
