Apparently, it can get worse. Who would have thought? A new series by USA Today bestselling author, Sarah K. L. Wilson. I’ve been taken prisoner by an enemy army with no idea about what happened to my dragon, Saboraak, or the people who fled the city. I hope they’re all okay. But of course, I can’t just enjoy eating gruel and being pulled around on a cage on a cart. I have work to do and people … around on a cage on a cart. I have work to do and people to save.
It’s a tough life saving the world, but someone has to do it.

Suspenseful
Tor. Cranky, but with a heart of gold. But: wait a minute! Tor being civil and thoughtful to Bataar?!
It got suspenseful right away. But Tor is getting overly confident. And while that befits a leader, it makes him vulnerable as well, as he hardly listens to good advice.
I missed Saboraak!!! She only played a little tiny role in this installment and I missed her dearly!!! In my opinion one of the best things about this series is the communication between Tor and Saboraak, their banter, their connection.
Still a good episode!!! I believe this series will speak to girls and boys alike as well as older ya. (Meaning me, I’m in my 40s but I love reading ya!)
Sarah K. L. Wilson’s Dragon Chameleon series is a wild ride full of fun. I ran through the last three of the books (Golem Siege, Memory of Mountains and Color of Victory) in one massive binge. No surprise really, as these books are so addictive that there’s no way you can simply stop at one. I love Saboraak the dragon as much as I love Tor. Their adventures are pretty spectacular, in books that are perfectly written and filled with wonderful and well-crafted characters. I’m going to miss them but am happy that they got the treatment they deserve. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. Each of books 10 to 12 (and reallly each of the other books in the series) definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that each of these books is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
As the series nears the end it is apparent that war seems inevitable. All the moving parts of the enemy have finally come to light, and it all seems too much to defeat. We find Tor in another very precarious situation, but with each new layer of danger he surprises me. He is stepping up and seems to be realizing that it is time to help his people. I am still being surprised as I read each book in this series. I am looking forward to the conclusion of this series. I find myself rooting for Tor and all of his friends. I would recommend this book
Dragon Chameleon: memory of Mountains is the penultimate episode in this wonderful series. Tor is held captive whilst Saboraak is desperately fighting elsewhere. Tor cannot hear her and has no idea if she has even survived. Things are looking bleak but Tor is learning more about his powers and what they can do with the help of new allies. Another dramatic cliffhanger paves the way brilliantly for the dramatic conclusion to this series. I cannot recommend this book and series highly enough.
TITLE: “A Ko’roi…is destined to sacrifice himself for the people…to put the nation ahead of himself.”
SETTING: Episode 11 finds Tor & Bataar as captives in a cage, from which they escape briefly, only to be recaptured and left to die in the cold. Rescue comes from a group new to us, the Ko’Loska chapter of the Ancient Order of Balance, from whose hands the metallic machines were stolen. They want to help Tor stop the Magika and recover their stolen items. An older female, Gran Ti’wilren, uses her knowledge to help heal the young men, and also instructs Tor on proper use of some of his power. Back to the battle they all go, only to have Eventen who has Zyla as his captive, eventually put a stop to Tor’s releasing the souls. Gran effects Tor’s escape back through the Door of Heavens to…?.!?
Tor learns from Gran what it means to be Ko’roi:
“Ko’roi is not a king…[but] a Ko’roi is destined to sacrifice himself for the people”……“What do you think a good ruler does? Every day is another sacrifice! Every moment, another choice to put the nation ahead of himself”.
Wise words, this time from an older woman, rather than his female dragon, help Tor understand the role in which he finds himself, and shape his thinking about his purpose of being chosen as Ko’roi. If taken to heart, Tor can use his powers for the benefit of his people, replacing the oppression they are under currently. The battle still rages back and forth between Tor and the Magika, but Tor now has more control over his powers to fight in this war.
CRITIQUE: Our story is moving towards it finale, with Tor beginning to understand his role as Ko’roi. We see Tor reaching a level of maturity as he applies the wisdom he has received over the course of the story. I appreciate the lessons in moral leadership that are given in this episode, which would benefit all of us, if rulers put welfare of people ahead of personal interests. The various threads of the story are being pulled together, in preparation of completion. (Unfortunately for the reader, this means the end of this delightful journey is near.)
While the series is winding down, there is no shortage of action. Tor has much to do and little time to act. There is much at stake and luckily he seems to have found some new friends. I love how much Tor had changed over the course of the series.
