So I went on an Elder Race re-read binge this weekend with everything Dragos and Pia! I freaking LOVE this couple so VERY, VERY MUCH!!!!!
If you have read this story, the very first book in the Elder Races series, count yourself blessed because Ms. Harrison weaves a tale so profound and deep about the Wyrs, you can’t help but fall in love with all of them. I cannot count how many times that I have read this book, it is my go to read for feeling good about love and relationships and how a couple should totally feel about each other. In this book we have the beginning tale of Pia and Dragos and the following stories that discuss Pia and Dragos life, gets better with each one. I re-read them all this weekend and found out some things that I obviously missed or forgot the first couple of times. I can honestly say I’ve re-read this at least 7 times and I’m still surprised at tidbits of information that I missed. Kudos on a job well done, Ms. Harrison. 5 Rip- Roaring, Beautiful Love, Alpha Dragon Mated to his Fierce Heroine, Breathing Fire Down Your Throat stars!!!!!
This is one of my go-to re-reads. It is the first book in her Elder Races series. Love Thea Harrison’s world-building.
Hands down my most favorite paranormal series. I prefer my authors not to spell everything out for me like I’m stupid…and Thea Harrison never does…she expects her readers to be smart enough to catch up…plus her vocabulary is amazing for a romance author… I pretty much walk away from every book learning a new word. Dragonbound is the first book in the series and is a story about Pia and Dragos. Likeable woman lead, great alpha hero that struggles with his own emotions. The book (and series) also has amazing world building, great political intrigue with the different powers/leader groups, good Alphas, but also strong heroine’s who arent just flat paper characters. Covers all sorts of fantasy/paranormal genres…dragons, various were-creatures, gin, witches, vampires, the fey, elves….. Audiobooks are read by Sophie Eastlake…who is also amazing. This series, and one other, are the only two I have ALL the books AND audiobooks too. I can’t even count how many times I’ve re- listened Dragonbound….
Best first paragraph ever.
I love everything I read from this author. These dragons are hot alpha and far too easy to get addicted to. I want more books Thea!!!
I have read this book several times over! I have the talking book version and the narrator used several different types of language differences to distinguishe different feelings coming from the different characters. Even reading it in book form, I still those inflections in my mind. Great book!!
A perennial favorite – manages to marry mythical creatures and modern history in a wholly believable and entertaining way, and populate it with unique and relatable characters.
Wonderful how the characters play off each other. Very good character backgrounds. Plot development, world building, and reveal pace kept me interested in every page. An emotional rollercoaster.
A domineering dragon who’s in charge of everything and a half-breed who made the mistake of telling an ex boyfriend one of her secrets. He uses this to blackmail her into stealing from the domineering dragon. Pia knows she’s dead. Dragos is going to rip her apart – literally. She runs but he follows her. Harrison has created a unique and imaginative world which sucks the reader in and doesn’t let go. Additionally, her characters are complex and flawed. The story was engaging containing all the great things about a romance – arguments, hot sex, and deep love (though neither are ready to admit it) – and all the great things about fantasy and science fiction. You’ve got the modern world as we know it but there are dragon shifters, elves, dark fae and intrigue. I got seriously annoyed when people interrupted my reading of this book.
I thought this was an excellent shape shifter romance. The author did a brilliant job of planning out the story so that all the plot threads wove together and there were no moments where the reader said ‘Um, what?’ Small details early on in the story helped to make sense of bigger changes later on, and everything stayed ‘in character’. I thought the plot was unique and enjoyed the ongoing game of solving one mystery only to uncover another that drew us on.
The author put a huge amount of effort into creating a world of magic with appropriate rules, and although some things weren’t spelled out to the reader, we were able to understand that there was a complex system that had definite rules, and that the author wasn’t just making it up as she went along and going with what was convenient for the characters at the time.
Dragos had a fearsome reputation, and a common mistake of authors is to tell the reader that the hero had earned such a reputation, but not let us see it for ourselves. While Dragos made a great romantic hero, there was also enough of the fearsome predator still about him (particularly in battle scenes) that we were able to believe his reputation had been fairly earned.
The side characters were brilliant. I loved the gryphons. I want to read Rune and Grayson’s books next, but I see the next one is Trick’s. Either way, I’m definitely reading more of these.
Since I have read this one 3 or 4 times, I think its safe to say that I’m a fan! I really wish that Thea Harrison’s revisionist history was real because she has created a fantastical and well thought out universe. Dragos may be the ultimate alpha male, but the love of his life isn’t your average wilting violet. Pia is full of spunk and surprises! I love this one sosososososo much!

Review:
I liked this book, i liked it better than I thought I would.
I liked the writing style, I was quickly drawn into the story. I quickly found myself connecting with the characters, liking them.
What is this book about:
This books is about a woman named Pia. She was blackmailed into stealing from an ancient being, a ruthless dragon. And he isn’t happy.
She has always been told to lay low, run if necessary, don’t get attached. But what happens when you try to outrun a dragon. And more importantly what happens when you get caught…
What did I liked about this book:
I liked the premise of this book. It took me a while to really get all the terms straight, to get all the races straight but I got there in the end.
I liked Pia, she had some great one liners. It has funny.
I liked her banter with Dragos, it was funny.
I liked how protective Dragos became of Pia. Very alpha male. I liked that Pia wasn’t afraid to tell him to piss off when he crossed a line.
At some point it felt a bit long but it never got boring or to the point to me wanting to quit. Overall it was a great story and I really liked it.
Rating:
4 I really liked it stars
Thea Harrison’s Dragon Bound (Elder Races Book 1) starts the adventurous, hilarious, and steamy Elder Races series. Dragons like to imagine they are apex predators, until they meet their mates, who show them who’s really boss. 😉
I am reading this book again. I fell in love with the Pia and Dragos. I have read all the elder races books . Not the great american novel, just a fun book.
