Doctor Max Jacobson, whom the Secret Service under President John F. Kennedy code-named “Dr. Feelgood,” developed a unique “energy formula” that altered the paths of some of the twentieth century’s most iconic figures, including President and Jackie Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis. JFK received his first injection (a special mix of “vitamins and hormones,” according to Jacobson) … Jacobson) just before his first debate with Vice President Richard Nixon. The shot into JFK’s throat not only cured his laryngitis, but also diminished the pain in his back, allowed him to stand up straighter, and invigorated the tired candidate. Kennedy demolished Nixon in that first debate and turned a tide of skepticism about Kennedy into an audience that appreciated his energy and crispness. What JFK didn’t know then was that the injections were actually powerful doses of a combination of highly addictive liquid methamphetamine and steroids.
Author and researcher Rick Lertzman and New York Times bestselling author Bill Birnes reveal heretofore unpublished material about the mysterious Dr. Feelgood. Through well-researched prose and interviews with celebrities including George Clooney, Jerry Lewis, Yogi Berra, and Sid Caesar, the authors reveal Jacobson’s vast influence on events such as the assassination of JFK, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Kennedy-Khrushchev Vienna Summit, the murder of Marilyn Monroe, the filming of the C. B. DeMille classic The Ten Commandments, and the work of many of the great artists of that era. Jacobson destroyed the lives of several famous patients in the entertainment industry and accidentally killed his own wife, Nina, with an overdose of his formula.

You never hear about the backdoor lifestyles of your most prominent people. This book was very enlightening. I never knew that famous people would trust a doctor like this, but “image” is everything. It’s not true…what you don’t know, won’t hurt you. Read it and be informed!
Sad that there are Drs around like that. Amazing what rich people can get.
Too technical for my taste.
This book was a good read and I learned some new information; however, I am somewhat skeptical about some of the incidents presented as fact. Just didn’t feel there was enough sourcing to believe some of the incidents reported.
Conspiracy theorists will find it to be a page-turner, the rest of us will be entertained and find some thought-provoking fodder.
If accurate this was downright scary. It was hard to believe so many well known people were doing drugs like this. Never knew who would show next when you turned the page.
I’m not sure how reliable the “facts” of this are.
An unknown story of JFK Sad but true
I was shocked and saddened to learn the truth about the use of methamphetamines by celebrities and politicians (eg. JFK). The physician who administered these drugs was (at least initially) apparently ignorant of the addictive nature of the amphetamines and was irresponsible in his treatment of many of his trusting patients. However, the author’s apparent firm belief in the conspiracy theories surrounding the Kennedy assassination caused me to doubt some of the other “factual” information presented in the book. It’s certainly worth reading but I would suggest a degree of skepticism should be applied.
A little too on the far out side…….like the killing of Kennedy, but interesting reading.
This book makes some very serious allegations that I have never heard from before and I was a young man growing up when these things were purported to happen. It’s an interesting book yet a little bit of a stretch for me to believe it.
This book was a true eye opener. Hard to believe that things like this really go on. It was the kind of book where you want to know the truth, but then feel sad when you find out.
Fascinating historical account of the man who gave Kennedy, and many others, methamphetamines. Sort of scary, but pulls together many accounts of the Kennedy assassination. Well written and very engaging.
I had no idea how compromised our country was in the Kennedy Era or why. So many important people in positions of authority addicted to methamphedamines and requiring injections on a regular basis just to function. And how compromised they became. It does add another leg to consider for the conspiracy theorists. All in all it was informative and terrifying to read how vunerable we as a nation were.
I read it in just a couple settings. Made (makes) a person wonder about the people “leading” this country.
Lots of historical and interesting facts here. If you want to know more about the assignation of JFK, you will enjoy this rather grisly accounting.
This is a true story of a doctor who promoted his own questionable remedies. He inspired a few laws regarding addictive drugs. He also forced medical boards to take a more active role in monitoring doctors.
Wow! So many important people were involved with this tragic “doctor” before the FDA was involved. Shocking!
Amazing account of major celebrities and the POTUS this “doctor” shot up with methamphetamine he called vitamins for feeding good energy.
I knew that amphetamines were used from before WWll. I had no idea how pervasive of an epidemic it was and maybe still is. The author makes a solid case for a lot more famous people in all walks of life were propped up on a regular basis with these drugs. Kennedy being the most famous. He then digresses into how some of these people died like Kennedy and Marilyn Moroe. There is much dispute in the deaths of those two people. However, the stating of how they were assassinated as a fact and not one of several theories is not substantiated. I don’t know that anayone could prove these theories today, but no one can say you know for a fact how they died and who killed. them. I would have just said they died under disputed and questionable circumstances since it is not the key point of the book. But yes you should read this book and it gives you some incite into the modern day opioid epidemic we are engulfed in now.
