Solomon Sanders doesn’t have time to fall in love.Until a stunning, skittish, single mother forces him to pause and recognize just how empty and hollow his busy life has become. From the start, it’s been ingrained in Solo’s DNA to fight.Fight for what he believes is right.Fight for the people he loves.Fight for the traces of good in a place which tends to be filled with a variety of bad.Fight for … tends to be filled with a variety of bad.
Fight for survival, so at some point, his life will quiet down and find a normal pace.
He wasn’t ready for the impact his secretive, shy, obviously out of place new neighbor was going to have on him. And never in a million years was he prepared to fall head over heels for her and her young daughter.
Now, he’s facing the most important, and the hardest fight he’s ever fought… the battle to win Orley’s damaged heart.
Orley Vincent’s heart is full of fear, leaving no space for love.
Until a big, brash, brawler of a man forces his way in and makes her realize facing her fears is the only way she can ever be free.
From the start, Orley was groomed to believe she wasn’t good enough.
She wasn’t the perfect daughter. Or student. Or girlfriend.
But, she has always been the best mother she could be to her daughter, Noble.
Keeping Noble safe has always been the one thing she was determined to do, which ironically, is how she ended up on the wrong side of the tracks, living next door to an unlikely hero. Orley’s a woman on the run. She had no idea her frantic sprint was going to land her in the tattooed arms of a man ready to teach her how to fight for herself… and for love.

Jay Crownover does it again! I love that she writes a book as she goes for her newsletter subscribers….it’s both joy and torture everytime I get a notification for more chapters. Nothing beats holding the actually paperback in my hands. I loved this story and all the little notes and glances of old favorite characters.
I absolutely loved Downfall by Jay Crownover. It is a must read for sure.
Solo & Orley are so perfect for each other.
Finding trust and love in one of the roughest cities is a true adventure.
Jay Crownover never fails to pull you in and take you on a wild & sexy ride.
Another bad boy in the point really does have a heart. At least not until Orley crashes into his life! And not to mention, the sweet little girl. Solo did his best to keep his head above water so he could care for his mama. He didn’t think he had room for any more people in his life, let alone two. And Orley was hiding and didn’t trust easily. But Solo made her feel safe. I loved how these wound hearts, mended together! Definitely another must read from Jay.
I loved Solo and Orley’s story, once again Jay you wrote a amazing book. I couldn’t put it down. I saved it for my flight home, I told my husband don’t bother me I’m reading my Jay book, put on some music and got lost in Solo and Orley’s story!
I loved this book! Solo is a fighter. Orley is a single mom to Noble. She is running. She goes to the city and rents next door to Solo. He is a fixer and he sets out to help Orley and her daughter. He has no time for a relationship. But slowly these two work their way into his heart and his home. Can they both overcome Orley’s past? Can be read as a stand-alone. 5 stars
Absolutely amazing!! I love a great single dad story and this one captured my heart and help into it for the whole ride. Another great book from this author who delivered everything you want in a great story from start to finish. An absolute must read!
A rough copy of this book was released a couple of chapters at a time in Jay Crownover’s monthly newsletter. I read every chapter as it became available, and then reread the book in one sitting when it was published. I know for a fact I’ll be reading it again before the year is out. It’s that good. Jay always writes the perfectly flawed hero to match the perfect damsel, in this case one who is slightly distressed. Solo didn’t want to be anyone’s hero, he didn’t have the time for starters, but when he helped Orley one dark night, he was opening himself up to be a lot more than a knight in shining armour. Solo and Orley are complete opposites, brought up on different sides of the track. When Orley finds herself living in one of the worst parts of the city, she soon finds out that without friends to help and lookout for her she won’t survive whilst bringing up a young child. Enter Solo. Wonderfully written characters, the good, the bad, and most definitely the evil ones, because, let’s face it, they’re all in here. There are even a few familiar faces from some of Jay’s previous books. Overall, a wonderfully written, highly entertaining, highly addictive read. Proof that opposites really do attract. I loved it.
I loved Downfall! The storyline is very interesting and keeps you wanting to know more about the characters. And speaking of the characters, I love Solo, Orley, and especially little Noble! Solo is such a great guy and so easy to like. He looks like this big, scary guy, but he’s really a teddy bear at heart. Orley is a sweetheart and such a great mom. I enjoyed seeing her feisty side come out too. Noble is the cutest little almost 4 year old, I loved reading about her. I also loved all of the Point references, they made me smile. This was a wonderful book and I wish there was even more!
I’ve been pretty distracted lately and didn’t realize Jay Crownover even had a book coming out. I love all Jay’s books, but The Point is my favorite place to be. So glad I got to go back there. Downfall was another 5 star Crownover book, just like all the ones I’ve read before.
You know that feeling you get when you read a book, the one where you’re transported into the world in which you are reading? Well, Jay Crownover does that effortlessly in Downfall. It takes place in my favorite world of hers.
Downfall introduces you to Solo, a good man that lives in a dangerous world. Solo, one of my new favorites of Crownovers men, lives his life with every moment spoken for; work, train, fight etc… he rarely has a moment to spare, but that all changed when Orley and Noble came barreling into his world. And, this was an amazing story.
Jay did it again. I started reading this in her monthly newsletters then stopped because I wanted to wait until it was all together and I am so glad I did. Even though Jay doesn’t name the city previous readers of her books know right where they are. Orley and Solo’s story was their own but it was nice to see other unnamed characters pop in.
Whenever I read a book of Jay’s I have to prepare myself for it. I could never pick up one of her books to read on whim. When you read Jay’s books you have to pay attention, fully comprehend everything because her words are very descriptive and deep. I always feel as though I’m there in the story because of how well she puts her story together.
I truly loved this one. Solo is my new fav. He’s badass with a damn good heart and has no problem showing either side. Love the dynamic between him and Orley, and I loved how Noble showed no fear being around big badass men but still threw a tantrum like the 3 1/2 year old should when she was told no dessert.
This was a great standalone as well as an addition to the Point.
I received a copy for review purposes.
Let me tell you all that I am OBSESSED with Solo. Ladies you need to get your hands on this strong, sexy, gritty, caring man. I was hooked from his first night in shining armor moment and then my heart melted a bit when she was dancing with that cute little girl. Orley is feeling the weight of the world on her as she fights with everything she has to make the best of the life that she has found herself in for her daughter. I was drawn into how her story peeled back to give us an idea of how she went from well off to fearing for her safety when she goes outside after dark. These two are drawn together and when they come together it’s FIRE!
This is the first book I’ve read by this author, I have many more on my Kindle but I just can’t find the time to read them but I will definitely not be putting her on the back burner anymore! She has fallen from a gated communities with multimillion dollar mansions to the slums of the inner city. Orley just wants the monsters to stop hunting her for her three-year-old, Noble’s sake. She really has no life skills or knows the way the world works. She meets Solo on a particularly trying day and he saves her and Noble. Orley and Solo develop a relationship that goes beyond friendly neighbors, but Orley is still holding back parts of her past and why she ran. Will Solo be able to save her and Noble when her past finally catches up with her? There are so many twists and turns in this book it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I highly recommend this book!
Orley and Solo were the icing on top of the decadently fabulous cake that is The Point. You know that it’s gonna feel like shame and regret eventually, likely when it settles on your hips, but it just doesn’t matter. Why? Because you get to taste the beauty that Jay Crownover brings into the grit and grime of this city and its people. So….maybe it’s more like that magical zero-calorie cake we’re all hunting for? It’s definitely possible!
Orley is living as well as she can in a foreign lifestyle, thanks to that which she had to escape. Her entire being is focused on keeping her daughter, Noble, safe and hidden away. She’s sure that she’ll never get ahead, but then she meets Solo. Solo is the knight in Mopar armor that Orley and Noble not only need, but easily love. Together, they find their way to family and happy in the way that only people of The Point can.
We catch up with a few of our favorites along the way, as well, and every person who steps into the fray, even without being named via their given name, helps to make for an even better story about love, redemption, and just how far Solo will go to save his girls and his most important reasons for living. Well done, Jay. Well. Done.
4.5 Stars
I really enjoyed this one. I when I mean I gobbled it up that’s honest truth. I couldn’t put it down. I loved the characters so much. They had such raw emotion. It grabbed me right int he heart. Solo, man you can’t help fall for that guy. He’s life has been on the tough side and has made him a hard man, but he has such a heart of gold. He has such a protective side when it comes to those he cares about. Orley and Noble turn his life completely upside down. I loved the scenes between Noble and Solo. They really warmed my heart. This is a great book because it really shows you you can’t judge a book by it’s cover especially when it comes to people. A real good message with a book that doesn’t let you go until you finish it.
Downfall by Jay Crownover was hands down a winner. It kept me enthralled and I couldn’t put it down till the last page. The characters were engaging and captured your heart. You find rooting for them against all the odds life keeps throwing at them . Solo is the hero every girl needs in her corner and Orley is the girl every guy needs standing beside him. They give you hope for your own happily ever after.
If you’ve read any of Jay’s Point books you have to read Downfall. If you haven’t read those or any of her just books for that matter, you can still love this one. You get a great story with secrets, suspense plus a hot guy who thinks he’s a loner finding everything he never knew he wanted.
Jay Crownover is was one of my favorite authors. I loved Solo and Orley. Their love was unexpected, Orley is hiding from someone or something. No one writes about a tattoo guy like Jay. I absolutely loved Solo and Orley’s journey to one another, it was filled with obstacles. I loved every word.
Downfall is Jay Crownover’s newest standalone set in The Point. If you haven’t read that series, you will not be lost, but you should read it because it’s awesome! Jay’s writing is fantastic as always and her characters quickly become friends you can’t help but care about. Solo has lived in The Point his entire life. He works hard, plays harder, takes care of his mom and protects those he cares about. He may work for and be around the dangerous men of The Point, but he’s not bad. He was raised with morals and a heart. His new neighbor is not from around here. She’s innocent and fresh and a young, single mother. She’s running from something but he can’t figure out what. Orley needed to escape her old life and take care of her daughter, Noble. She’s hiding where no one will look for her. But she’s down on her luck and every time she needs help, Solo is there to save her. He’s big, tatted up and quite scary looking, but she’s not afraid of him. She trusts him even though she’s not sure why. He makes her feel safe. Noble is instantly taken with him, I mean, his name is Solo and she’s the biggest Star Wars fan there is even if she’s only three years old! Every time Solo is with her daughter, Orley just melts. This big, strong, scary man is wrapped around Noble’s finger. He’s sweet, gentle and loving. They go from strangers to friends to much more. Solo is the first man to make her feel safe, loved and protected. Orley showed Solo what he was missing in his life. He needs her more than air now. When her past comes back to get her, will Solo keep his promise? This story was everything! It gave me all the feels: lust, humor, sadness, suspense, love, friendship, loyalty and justice. I loved the slow dance that was Solo and Orley’s relationship. I also loved seeing other residents from The Point and being reminded why I loved them all. Jay once again shows us that just because you live in a bad place and have to do bad things to survive doesn’t make you a bad person.
