Sparks fly when the hot-shot divorce lawyer meets the high-powered wedding planner. The only question is, what kind? If you ever get married, remember my name: Max Henderson. In my line of work, you acquire a certain perspective on supposedly everlasting unions. . . . 1. Pre-nups are your friend. 2. The person you married is not the person you’re divorcing. 3. And I hope you didn’t spend much … And I hope you didn’t spend much on the wedding because that was one helluva waste of hard-earned cash, wasn’t it?
But some guys are willing to take a chance. Like my brother, who thinks he’s going to ride off into the sunset with the woman of his dreams in a haze of glitter on unicorns. And the wedding planner—the green-eyed beauty who makes a living convincing suckers to shell out thousands of dollars on centerpieces—is raking it in on this matrimonial monstrosity.
The thing is, Charlie Love is not unlike me. We’re both cogs in the wedding-industrial complex. As the best man, I know her game—and I can play it better than her. But after one scorching, unexpected kiss, I’m thinking I might just want to get played.

A Lemmon Recommends title! https://www.jessicalemmon.com/all-posts/Lemmon-recommends
Hero Max is sharp and shrewd on the surface and achingly romantic deep down, and so is this story. Down with Love is perfection—I have a new favorite Kate Meader book!
Charlie’s sassy determination met Max’s undeniable sex appeal and charm to create the most spectacular fireworks. Down with Love is the kind of story that gives all the feels and leaves you wanting more.
Previously I had only read Kate Meader hockey sports romance series books but that would have been a huge mistakes because Down with Love had me hooked more than the books in Meader’s Chicago Rebel’s series. Once I started Down with Love that was it, and I know I won’t nor do I want to wait until Jan-2019 for Illegally Yours, book 2 in the same series. Before they are aware of the others occupation Max and Charlie are drawn to each other & have instant chemistry. But after they are aware of the others occupation, it becomes a `fight till the end’ with each trying to ‘one up the other’ and it real makes this book one tremendously funny read! LOVED IT! The plot was believable but oh so crazy, the cynical divorce lawyer AKA the forever bachelor vs. the fairytale planning wedding coordinator. But, what makes this book is that it is not only told from dual POVs but includes tremendous laugh out loud, witty yet sarcastic banter! A wonderful rom-com that you won’t want to miss in your Kindle library because yes you will want to read it again it was that engaging & funny! If you can’t tell by now, I definitely recommend one-clicking Down with Love!
Aw! I loved it. Max is such a smooth-talking cocksure man. He is also sweet, funny, and smart. He also has a clumsy side. It’s really an amazing blend. He cracked me up. He definitely has a way with words. Charlie enjoys his words as well. His sweet ones. His filthy ones. His arrogant ones. Especially when she got to throw her own back at him. Which is one of the reasons why I loved her. She knows how to put him in his place. She also knows what she wants and doesn’t need. She also knows what she deserves. Together, these two are hilarious, sexy, beautiful, and a bit crazy.
Overall…it’s a wonderful start to a new series! I do love my lawyers and this group is so much fun! I can’t wait for Lucas’s story. The bloody Brit is going to make me fall.
“—desire, doubt, nausea, and need.”
I happened upon Kate Meader by accident and dove into her Chicago Rebels series after being intrigued by the synopsis. I was hooked, coming back again and again for more. I jumped on this book without even reading the blurb, just excited for whatever story the author wanted to tell.
When I first met Max his issues were very apparent. He was cynical and judgemental about the horrors of matrimony. It’s true that with his career as a divorce attorney he’s seen the worst of failed marriages, but he’s also witnessed a few successful ones. So, when his brother shared that he was getting married, he struggled to show support rather than disdain.
Charlie can’t deny her physical attraction to Max, but when he stopped flirting and showed his true colors her hot temper came out to play. If she’d known how much that turned him on, would she have done things differently? What fun it was to witness their banter as they argued about love. Her belief and his doubt that it existed.
In the meantime, their lust was never in question. My only question was how long it would take for them to give in to it. I was impatiently waiting in the wings, encouraging them to take a chance. Being inside both of their heads was an interesting place to be. I giggled and sighed as she pondered having a Max-gasm and he admitted to himself, “I want to jump heart first.” But will he? Which will win the Love Wars, his head or his heart?
Hilarious, hot & heartfelt! I was captivated by this fast-paced, funny, sexy book from the first page. Everything about this book was fantastic, and I’m already panting to get my hands on the next one!
This is the start of what seems like it is going to be a really sexy and enjoyable series! I loved this book, it is full of so much heart and soul and love which is ironic given the title! What better opposites to pit against each other than a super sexy divorce attorney and a very sassy wedding planner. It’s such a great match! Talk about opposite ends of the love and happily ever after spectrum. Smart, witty and sexy dialogue with some very steamy depositions between Max and Charlie certainly made this a light and easy read that I couldn’t put down.
I was lucky to get an ARC of this book from Netgalley!
Loved this well paced story with its witty banter, great chemistry and steamy scenes. Looking forward to reading the other books in this series!
Down With Love is the first book of a new series and I loved it. Kate Meader pulled me in from the first page. After reading the blurb for this book I knew I was going to love it.
Max is a partner in a law firm specializing in divorce. He believes in pre-nups and does not see himself ever getting married. When his brother is getting married and hires a wedding planner he is not going to make it easy on her.
Charlie loves to make peoples dreams come true and have the perfect wedding day. She never expected to meet the ever cynical Max. The banter between these characters was on point. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
Kate Meader does opposites attract with wit and plenty of heart. A laugh-out-loud read.
Kate Meader writes the best banter I’ve come across!! Max and Charlie’s snarky quips had me cracking up so much, I woke my husband up, lol!
I loved Max and his dislike of change, along with Charlie and her hot and cold personality. The sexy tension between the two was obvious, but it was Max’s romantic tendencies that melted my heart and had me smiling, especially when he was frustrated by his lack of progress! And I loved the parent units. They were the best. Two sides of the same coin, showing the work that marriage takes during the ups and downs.
My happy hands can’t wait to grab the next book with Max’s partner, Lucas, to see what kind of mischief he gets himself into.
Wow! Kate Meader delivers a knockout punch with Down With Love. It has romance with some steam, comedic interludes and thoughtful insight into relationships, both newly forming and long term marriages. At the heart of this story are Max, a divorce attorney, and Charlie, a wedding planner. Not just polar opposites, but living on different planets. One is a cynic while the other helps couples plan the beginning of HEA. The author made me laugh at the banter between Max and Charlie (as well as the baseball game insults to the umpire), stamp my feet (figuratively) at their hardheadedness and grow mushy when each confront their real feelings. Kate Meader delivers a superb book worthy of 5 stars!
I loved reading Down with Love by Kate Meader, book one of her Laws of Attraction series, which is about sexy divorce lawyers and the women who can’t decide if they should kiss them or kill them.
This story focuses on what happens when a hot-shot divorce lawyer, Max, tries to work with a high-powered wedding planner, Charlie. Max has a jaded view about marriage since he assists and advises people through their divorce and life after. Charlie is helping Max’s brother and his fiancée plan their wedding, which will occur in short time period. Plus Charlie believes in the fairy story of happiness, at least for the couples she works with.
I enjoyed how Max and Charlie were more alike than different, despite their jobs being at opposite ends of the marriage spectrum. Charlie wanted to find love but has yet to find the one for her. When she shares a kiss with Max, both are shocked at the sparks that occur. She is determined that whatever this is between her and Max can only be a fling. Max is surprised to find he’s interested in romance with Charlie. Now how can he convince her?
Ms. Meader wrote a wonderful and emotional story that is not to be missed. She drew me into the lives of her characters, making me forget the world around me. Down with Love is filled with witty banter, sexual chemistry, fun dialogue, and endearing characters. I highly recommend this book to other readers. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Opposites attract and chemistry explodes! With the latest series from Kate Meader, she gives a quirky twist on rom-com a try … and doesn’t disappoint! Her characters are fresh and entertaining, the story line was attention grabbing enough to entrench us quickly and keep us entertained throughout. I will admit to loving the drama of her sexy firefighters and hockey players slightly more, but I can dig the rom-com on occasion.
Max Henderson makes his living based on the ugly side of love. As a prestigious divorce attorney, he’s seen just how bad it can get between two people who swore to be each other’s everything just a short time ago. He’s cynical enough about the institution of marriage that you’ll never see him anywhere near it!
Wedding planner Charlie Love just happens to be planning a wedding that he is going to want to be involved in. He might not agree with it all for himself, but he’s going to have to bite his tongue and agree to the things she and the bride and groom plan. Along the way, an attraction flares between the two of them and he just might find himself looking forward a forever after all when it’s all said and done.
This is a first read for me by this author and man did I love this book. I laughed so hard and so much! Lol This is the story of Max Henderson and Charlie Love. Max is a divorce attorney and has seen and heard it all. He meets Charlie, the wedding planner for his brother’s wedding and is less than thrilled at the idea of matrimony but quietly intrigued by Charlie. Both Max and Charlie have been burned by previous relationships but Charlie has an optimistic view on a happily ever after. This was an entertaining read for me and I loved the banter between the two, I will continue to read more by Ms. Meader. 4 solid stars****
I loved the chemistry between Max and Charlie! The dynamic between them made for a interesting plot – will they? won’t they? can they make it work? It was great to see the the background of these characters be slowly revealed their motivations. It was steamy and drama in all the right places! I love stories that get me into the characters and it definitely got me invested in them. HEA!
I seriously smiled the entire time while reading Down with Love. It elicits non-stop laughs and big, happy sighs due to its clever humor, top-notch banter, sizzling sexual tension and heartfelt romance. Charlie and Max are absolutely perfect together from the moment they meet and draw battle lines based on their professions and opinions of marriage. Neither particularly wants to be attracted to the other, but there is no denying they have chemistry in spades. As they circle and resist each other, they realize they have more in common than they imagined and begin to appreciate their differences. Down with Love could warm the coldest heart and induce the most stoic person to grin. I can’t wait for more of this series from Kate Meader.
