ImogenThere is no way we can still love and cherish one and other. When I married Theo Walsh, the rough, bearded townie who worked construction on my family’s summer house, I’d found my happily ever after. That was before the fighting. Before the jealousy. Before the infertility. We’ll be divorced long before death does us part. But to secure my place in the family dynasty, there is just one more … part.
But to secure my place in the family dynasty, there is just one more hoop I have to jump through. And I need him to do it.
Faking the marriage we once thrived in will gut me.
Especially with the secret I’m carrying.
Theo
I would have sacrificed for her until the end of time.
My job.
My home.
My happiness.
I’d given it all up to marry her. That’s how much I loved Imogen Weston, the daughter to one of the world’s richest families.
From the day we met, I’d done nothing but try to live up to the man she expected to be with. And now, I was done.
Sure, I’d complete this one final ask of hers, even if it destroyed me.
But I’ve made her promise the one thing that might save me. She swore that after she got everything she ever wanted, she wouldn’t look back.
I made my wife vow to leave me forever.

HEAVYHEARTED & FULL OF REGRETS!!
This one had my heart from the get go because of everything that Imogen & Theo went through with each other. I can’t imagine giving up the person I love most in the world because together you felt like you were only causing the other immense pain and grief because of what you couldn’t give them or a life that you felt like you were keeping them from.
Marriage is an intense, messy and chaotic world where only two people should truly exist. Except in Theo & Imogen’s world…there are so many people with high expectations, hidden agendas and not always the best intentions. It’s not always easy to stay inside your own little bubble and not let it be punctured by the outside world. My heart hurt for these two and everything this couple went through.
Sadly, this one lost my interest a couple times. I think that it was mainly any time that Imogen’s family came into the picture. Those situations often led me to not like Imogen herself during those moments and the person that she was in those moments. I truly loved who Imogen was when it was just her and Theo. I swooned over Theo often, he was just so charming at times. Their love story was very sweet.
This was quite an emotional ride. Imogene and Theo are in love and married and through the stress of many things including infertility their marriage is crumbling. It is real life in a way, but I really wanted to reach into my Kindle and strangle Imogene quite often. she was selfish and I had to take a break from the book for a bit when she really frustrated me. But the book was well written and I came back and had to get to the ending. Her family was awful and I am sure they made her the way she was but she still made me so mad at her. Great writing
I loved this story! Carrie makes you feel the emotions of her characters amazingly!
Follow the story of rich socialite Imogen, and her regular ole blue collar husband Theo, as after five years of marriage, Imogen feels like she’s holding him back and hurting him so she leaves. Theo isn’t ready to give up, she’s his soulmate and won’t let her go without a fight. It’s not easy with her families interference, and other obstacles that come their way!
I won’t give much more away in this review, but I’m telling you, you don’t want to miss out on this story that will give you all the feels, you will feel their emotions, just a great all around story! 5+ stars for this, grab this book asap!!
I was really excited to read this one! It showcased the angst of some of the struggles a real life couple could go through.
Though I must say that I was a bit dissapointed because I felt that the story had the potential to be so much angsty than it was. But I did enjoy the heartwrenching moments Theo and Imogen experience. I felt every emotion you can possibly think of.
I loved Theo to pieces. He is such a dreamy man. He is caring, sweet, charming, kind and so in love with Imogen, who, I must say, is undeserving of Theo’s love. His heart is so big and so pure while Imogen, to me, is just downright selfish. I couldn’t connect with her even though I really tried. I understood some of her motives and actions, but not the majority of them. I hated how she kept hurting Theo over and over for her own benefit and how easily he forgave her. He deserved so much more.
A heartbreaking story with the most swoon worthy hero.
This book!!! Omg this book. This book had me sobbing into my pillow while my husband slept beside me because you it was that emotional and that amazing!
For the first half of this book I wanted to reach into the pages of the book and slap Imogen right in the face! I was so angry as her actions and how she was treating her husband when was only trying to love her. Once Imogen finally got her act together and realized that she was making some really poor choices I found a love for her that was buried deep within.
I loved that this story was not all hearts and flowers. This was about the real struggles that marriages have which is refreshing and true to life. Carrie managed to capture the truth that lots of married couples have, some that end happily and some that don’t (fortunately these two got their HEA).
5 stars for this out of the box romance about fighting for love instead of falling in love.
This was a powerful and emotional book. YOu fell in love with the characters, and felt the pain they went through. I have never read a book that started out with a character wanting a divorce, but ofc theres always a first. We finally get a look at why Imogen wants the divorce. Her and Theo’s relationship is on the rocks and with the infertility process, just adds more to it. To Imogen, her family is important and willing to lose Theo for them. That’s when THeo fights hard to make her see, what is right in front of her.
YOu want to cry even just a little bit, read this book and I promise you, you will fall in love with Theo and you will feel for him through it all.
Down We’ll Come Baby is exactly why Carrie Aarons is one of my favorite writers. She has now given us a beautiful, emotional story about second chances.
This isn’t your typical love story. It begins with a break-up, not a couple falling in love. Imogen and Theo fell hopelessly and passionately in love with one another pretty quickly. They each knew they had found their soulmate from the very start.
“It’s not something many people forget, that second in time when their person was the one.”
The problem was these two came from very different backgrounds. Theo lived a pretty simple yet happy life. Imogen came from a very powerful, very rich family. You can imagine that her family wasn’t too keen on their marriage. When you add in a fertility issue with those differences, and you can see that Imogen and Theo are struggling, forgetting that all-consuming love they had for one another. Their love story is trying to find their way back to one another.
Both characters were very real, and their emotions were very raw. Aarons shed some new light on divorce for me…she made me see why divorce can sometimes be so painful. I know it is, but she shows the emotion in a very different way. Through Theo and Imogen, she illustrated a couple who were two halves of a whole who knew each other’s deepest secrets. They knew what made the other tick. When they separated, all that love and emotion was stripped away. They have to face living a life with only half of their soul. That raw emotion pulled me in so deeply into their romance, especially when I read how they fell in love and their life before the breakdown of their marriage.
Aarons also portrayed two very real people with very real flaws. They were not perfect. Each one of them didn’t fully appreciate and understand the sacrifice they made for one another. Yet, that didn’t take away from me absolutely adoring each of them and wanting them to find their way back to one another.
Aarons has already shown what a versatile writer she is, but she gives us more than just a book, she gives us a story that wraps you up and doesn’t let you go. Everything connected…the characters, the plot, and even the very words she used. The setting is near the shore, and that makes up so much of who Theo is. She weaved all of that into the story seamlessly through her imagery with phrases like: “ships righting themselves, storms, and rough waters.” It was just a beautiful book! It’s because of her amazing storytelling that always keeps me coming back for more!!!
Down We’ll Come, Baby by Carrie Aarons was absolutely phenomenal!
As soon as I picked this book up, I was hooked. Imogen and Theo are two characters who will not only captivate your attention, but they will also steal your heart. Their relationship will have you mesmerized from the very first page. I never knew how everything was going to turn out for them. The only constant whilst reading, was that I was constantly rooting for them to be together.
This has quickly become my favourite book from Carrie Aarons. I am definitely going to have to get my hands on a paperback copy to add to my collection and shelves.
Down We’ll Come, Baby is an emotionally heartbreaking and heartwarming novel, that will leave you an emotional wreck. I absolutely recommend it to everyone!
5/5 Stars!
I truly hate when I don’t write a review right after I finish a story. Down We’ll Come Baby deserves the adrenaline feeling type review because my emotions were all over the place. This story felt so real from the start, a marriage that is torn by too many circumstances. Imogen a woman of wealth falls for Theo, a blue-collar worker. Carrie Arrons had me falling deeply in love with these characters, one more than the other at times. The subject matters in the storyline are very strong, infertility, money, parents respect, self-worth, and the fight to save a broken marriage.
It seems as if Aarons held nothing back in this story. The tears, heartbreak, anger, desire, love, and the want for acknowledgment that are written on the pages were easily felt as a reader. My review may be short but that is because this is one of those books that needs to be read, it’s perfectly written and leaves a lasting impression.
5 Star Must Read!
I was saw this cover and then the blurb and I knew I had to read this book. This was a new author for me, and I enjoyed the story mostly.
Imogen our heroine was a bit too much for me, she was very very selfish and I could understand losing yourself when you get hit by tragedy , but she didn’t even try she just left. She went crawling back to her slimy family, who only cares about money.
Theo was the rock in this book, I loved him and Imogen should have worshipped him instead of giving up on him. This was a bit tough in that I have lost a child myself and I know that feeling of devastating heartbreak.
This couple was beautiful together, and it really makes you root for the couple to pull through and get past the pain.
Messy, heartbreaking, painful. These aren’t the words one wishes to use to describe their marriage, but they are the words that Imogen Walsh and her husband, Theo, are using. At a difficult time in their lives they should be turning to each other, but Imogen is searching for fulfillment at her family’s company, contemplating turning her back on the Walsh name and embracing all the expectations that come from walking back into her family’s fold. Theo is left feeling much like the sea, crashing and flowing, but never really reaching land. When a chance at the forever love they once wanted presents itself again, Theo and Imogen must choose to either embrace fear or risk losing true love for good.
I have never been married, I have never come from a wealthy family dynasty, and I’ve never faced the trials and tribulations that Imogen and Theo faced, but I feel like I have after reading Down We’ll Come, Baby. Carrie Aarons weaves a heartbreaking tale of love, loss, and the powerful sense of duty one can feel. Imogen is a woman who made a choice for a love, a woman who is now reconsidering what love means for her in the face of pain and the offering of wealth and status. She’s a difficult heroine to like, a villian more so than a hurting wife. She is at the center of this novel and while one could easily dislike her, it is also very apparent that she is grasping at straws as her life tumbles in on her. Theo, the handsome, rugged construction worker and husband to Imogen, is the best part of this novel. His love is unwavering, his heartbreak is palpable, and the steps he’s willing to take to make things right, to have love, is just incredible. His love for Imogen can only be described as all consuming passion.
Down We’ll Come, Baby is an unpredictable romance with so much angst your heart won’t stop hurting until the very last page. It features realistic marriage hurdles and while I didn’t always connect with the heroine, it has a couple that discovers just how much they’re willing to fight for love. It is another well-developed novel from Carrie Aarons, an author whose character development and interactions I always love. It’s painful, it’s steamy, it’s romantic, it’s a book you must read if you love romance with a touch of reality.
ARC provided.
I received an ARC in return for an honest review. I was a little skeptical when I started this story. The thought of starting at the end of a relationship was a little unusual for me. I have to say I really did enjoy the story and felt the heartbreak of these two characters. Their story just proved that no matter how perfect two people can be for each other, outside influence and loss can break even the strongest of relationships.
Roller-Coaster ride of emotions, is what I am calling this! New to me author and book, and I am hooked!!
What an emotional love story. Theo was just amazing from beginning to end. Imogen wasn’t bad but it took a lot for me to warm up to her. My feelings for her were up and down but poor thing had no choice to be the way she was because of her family who I despised.
These two were going thru a rollercoaster in their relationship and Theo never gave up. They were from completely different sides she was a multi millionaire and he was a blue collar with no family but he was the sweetest and did anything for her. Imogen had her moments when I was so proud of her, times I felt sorry for her and times I wanted to shake her. But when she finally came to her senses I loved it!!!!! When these two finally straighten out their relationship they were a stronger duo. I loved these two!!!
Imogen friend Nicole was very funny. This book showed that all the money in the world doesn’t buy happiness.
Intense and pain are the words I would use to describe this love story. And it is a love story, make no mistake.
What happens when a couple is from completely different worlds and struggles with infertility? How do they manage through it when they are obviously seriously in love with each other? Theo and Imogen are the perfect couple. Ridiculously deep in love but struggling. Imogen’s wealthy upbringing and Theo’s working class self clash but only when they step out of their personal bubble.
This was rough to read because the author does such a good job of painting their anguish and filling in their past with such incredible adoration. You can’t help but keep turning pages to see how (or if) they are going to figure out how to put everything else aside and focus on the love they share.
Recommended if you need a step away from traditional romance formulas and a great read!
Imogen and Theo are from different backgrounds. Their marriage is on the verge of collapse from several issues. Theo was a good man and tried everything to please Imogen. I felt that Imogen was selfish and didn’t deserve him. This story had so much angst and I didn’t care for the heroine.
I received a copy of this book and am leaving a review.
Wow, just… I’ve read every single one of Carrie Aarons books. Some have been funny, some haunting, some emotional, some tense and a bit suspenseful… they are always great stories with layered meanings. Down We’ll Come, Baby pretty much follows this same rules, great story with layered meanings, however, it was so raw and heartbreaking. It made me feel anger and, I actually felt like I disliked a character. I’ve never really felt displeasure or a character of hers before but I really didn’t like Imogen. She was so weak-minded and superficial. She seriously did not deserve Theo.
Are you wondering why I continued reading a book where I didn’t relate or like one of the main characters? I don’t feel like I had to like her when I was so gone for him. I think this book really shows us that life isn’t perfect. People aren’t perfect. We all make mistakes and honestly, not everyone is likable. One of the things I enjoy best about Mrs. Aarons books is that they always feel plausible. So yes, Imogen might come off as incredibly self-centered and self-absorbed… but can’t we all be?
Down We’ll Come, Baby is just what I have come to expect from Carrie Aarons writing. It’s deep and meaningful. She gives us stories that make us pause and ponder on the situations. This is really one of the deepest, rawest, and must angstful feeling books that Carrie Aarons has written. She really touches on so many things… love, loss, family, expectations, different lifestyles, having children… just every day obstacles. Aarons writing is gripping and flows so smoothly. The way she describes her scenes and set up the story just seemed to flow. As always, I can’t wait to see the next place Carrie Aarons will take me!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
A book that deals with a marriage breakup and infertility that was at times a difficult read.
Previously when I’ve read books like this my sympathy is always with the woman. Whilst I could sympathise with Imogen it was Theo who stole the show for me. Theo was a man who had and would do anything for his wife but I found her selfish and at times bratty. No love story or marriage is perfect and theirs certainly wasn’t but I wanted to shake some sense into Imogen.
reviewed by Sweet Spot Sisterhood
Since I enjoyed one other I read from this author I thought why not another. In this Theo and Imogen take you on their ride that is first smooth then life gives it holes and hoops. Right when you think that is enough more comes along and you have to get that second wind. This one will take you through alot with them but you will still have some blood left so you will be drained a bit more. Me the reader I do feel more for him then her but it still gives me alot to chew in this one. This one just reaffirmed that this author gives you the best when you open up one of hers.
3.5**ARC REVIEW**
Imogen found Theo by chance and it was an instant attraction. They come from two completely different worlds but early on they feel they have found each others soul mate and they can beat the odds against them. The odds… Imogen’s circumstances. Until tragedy strucks and Imogen see’s things totally opposite from what they are and gives up on her marriage and more importantly on Theo.
It was a bit hard to relate with Imogen, I felt she was pretty selfish and oblivious to situations surrounding her. Theo for me was an amazing partner and I felt like he was taken advantage of way too much… He would give and give….
Until Imogen comes to her senses and realizes her view on her marriage, Theo and her family are not what she was thinking all along. She begins to weigh the situation.
Will Imogen give into her love for Theo and their Marriage or will the circumstances with her family overshadow that love….
