What happens when friendship morphs into something way more with one steamy kiss?
Where has this author been all of my life. I absolutely love her characters and her style. Yes that hunka burning love and all of the men are described as yummie but they also have made some choices in life which weren’t the best, meaning they aren’t perfect. These 3 friends have had different reasons to change the childhood bond they have nourished throughout the years and now it’s Reese and Jenna’s turn, maybe. A story of discovery and acceptance and a love that has strengthened throughout the years. Now if guilt and sins of the father can be pushed out the way it might just work.
I love the intensity of the character, the childhood bond, it always makes love so much more believable when it is developed and worked through to strengthen. It’s a well written story with loads of feels and awww moments and great intentions. I can’t wait to read more about these Men of the Month.
Sucked
Man of the Month: January is Reece and Jenna’s story. We are back in Austin at Fix on Sixth from where we meet Kiki and Noah. This is a first friends, aren’t sure they want to be more than friends, and then the give it a go couple. Reece/Jenna are a great story and sets up well for the additional stories that are to follow.
Down on Me by J. Kenner is the first in an epic series of twelve novels all based on a beloved bar and the efforts of it’s employees, owners, and patrons to save it from closure. Welcome to the Man of the Month series.
An excellent introduction to the series, the scene is set for the “Man of the Month” calendar fundraiser that will be happening throughout each of the twelve books. It also was a wonderful romance of best friends-to-lovers when Reece and Jenna finally took the risk of stepping outside their comfort zones and into each others arms.
The secondary characters introduced here had depth and definitely left me eager to see how each of their stories plays out in future novels. Well-written, well-paced and an enjoyable read!
DOWN ON ME is book one of the Man of the Month series (there’ll be 12 all together!). It’s straight up a swoony, friends to lovers romance, so if this is a trope you enjoy, this one’s right up your alley!
Reece, Jenna and Brent have been besties since childhood (this is NOT a love triangle!). Reece and Jenna begin to see each other in a whole new light as they work together to keep their bar open.
I love it when the cover accurately reflects the characters and this one is spot on! The hottie on the cover is exactly how I pictured Reece in my head. He’s hard working, smart, supportive but also possessive and alpha as heck! Jenna is sweet in a naughty librarian kind of way…a little straight laced on the outside but a little dirty behind closed doors! Ms. Kenner does an excellent job of building up the sexual tension for the first half of the book and then BOOM! Once they get together, their chemistry is scorching hot!
There’s no real angst and not a whole lot of drama. This one’s just a sweet, easy read with two friends learning to trust in the strength of their relationship. Told from dual POVs with a happy ending. I received, read and voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
When you bestfriend for years becomes your obsession you become familiar with cold showers. That is what Reece Walker is experiencing. He knows that Jenna Montgomery deserves better than him and that if he crosses that line it may ruin the one good thing in his life. So when they get together to save their home bar, who knows what will happen. Loved Jenna and Reece, they made my kindle melt. Jenna is a strong willed woman who is struggling what her heart and head wants. Great read and I cannot wait until I read the next book in this new series. Definitely a must read.
3.5 Stars
Down on Me is the first title in the new Man of the Month series. Part of the plot for this title is an introduction to the premise of the series. A trio of friends Reece, Jenna and Brent who have stood by each other since childhood through thick and thin, join together with their long time friend and boss Tyree, to form a partnership to save The Fix, on Sixth.
The partners toss around ideas of how to raise funds in order to save the bar, and Jenna comes upon the concept of promoting the bar, and raising awareness of the situation via a calendar contest.
Spending more time together both Reece and Jenna struggle with their budding feelings that are somewhat deeper than friendship. The attraction and chemistry Jenna and Reece share is intense and undeniable. Whilst I admired and liked aspects of both characters personalities in particular Jenna’s strength, tenacity, drive and sassiness. I found Reece to be quite quick to make assumptions, and could be a bit of an ass at times. His determination, character development, and sexy demeanour that matched the cover perfectly were his saving grace. I also struggled with some of their behaviours and found their internal monologues at times to be a tad repetitive.
Overall though I enjoyed this fast paced, hot, and steamy read and look forward to the remaining eleven titles in the series.
Down On Me by J. Kenner was a quick, fun read and my first introduction into the world of this author’s writing, at least in the case of this book and those to follow and boy was I delighted with what I discovered. This is the first in a series of 12 books, called ‘Man of the Month’ with each book publishing a few short weeks after the other.
It’s told 3rd person POV which isn’t my favorite, but Ms. Kenner managed to break down my dislike for that style of writing. The story carried me away with it’s mostly like-hearted theme.
Reece and Jenna Montgomery have known each other since they were kids. They grew up together and Jenna spent much of her childhood as just one of the guys. She and Reece had one other member of their awesome friendship, Brent, a now single father to five year old, Faith. They’ve always loved each other… like family. But, one drunken night before Jenna was to leave town could have changed everything.
Neither of them had the nerve to risk their friendship or face the humiliation of being turned down by he other. So, they ignored how they felt and went their separate ways.
Reece had always regretted not telling Jenna how he felt when she left for L.A eight months ago, but now she’s back and he has the chance to show her. But, she’s just a friend, right?
Jenna thought time apart would have made what she’d felt the night several months ago, just be a figment of her imagination, but the second she sets eyes on Reece, she knows she was wrong.
Reece is tall and gorgeous, he takes life as it comes, just like his women, but he doesn’t hang around for long. He has a jaded outlook on love and marriage thanks to seeing people close to him get churned up by that institution. It’s not for him. But, can what he feels for Jenna change all that?
Jenna has always looked for love, and even though she never had a father growing up, she wants it all. A husband, a house, the kids and the picket fence. She and Reece shouldn’t work, but they do. They make an adorable couple, and even though Reece is wary of deep feelings, he can’t fight how he feels about Jenna.
When things get heated and a mistake brings everything to a head, will Reece do the right thing?
Can these two take the chance, risk it all and find the HEA they’ve always deserved?
This is the first time I have read this author and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. I am so excited to be reading this new series, Man of the Month, and I look forward to reading all 12 books in this series.
This is a best friends to lovers story and they have a rough road to navigate. There are challenges to their relationship, to their careers and there are family issues. Reece doesn’t believe in forever. He hasn’t ever had a successful long term relationship. He is a chip off the old block, as his father has been through many women that never had staying power.
Jenna is returning home after eight months because her dream job fell through. Before she left, her feelings for Reece changed from wanting to be just best friends to wanting more. Little does she know, Reece has been feeling this way for a while. They dance around each other until Reece makes a move. They try to keep it on the down low but their other friend for the best friend trifecta, has suspected they had feelings for each other and gives his support.
They all put their heads together to try and come up with a concept to help bring in revenue to help save the bar. The winning idea? Have a man of the month contest in the bar to choose the man that will appear in the calendar put out by the bar. Jenna wants Reece to be in the lineup for Mr. January, but he puts a halt to that. Who becomes Mr. January? You’re going to have to read the book to find out how all this plays out! I can’t wait for February!
If you love the friends to lovers’ trope like I do, you will love this one.
Down On Me is first book in ‘A Man Of The Month Novel’ series. The first half of the story sets up the premise of the series while intertwining a friends to lovers romance. The second half delves further into the relationship that left me frustrated with the heroine. I use heroine loosely because of her unreasonable nature put me off.
Let me start from the beginning. Reece Walker who works at Fix on Sixth, discovers the bar is struggling and he and his best friend jump in to help save it. Reece also recruits their other best friend, Jenna Montgomery, who has just returned from Los Angeles after a failed job. Reece, Brent and Jenna are long time high school friends, best friends. Before Jenna had left for LA she and Reece had a special moment. A moment they both put behind them. Now that Jenna’s back they both need to keep their distance because they don’t want to ruin their friendship. Jenna knows that she wants more than Reece is able to give. When Reece decides he can’t stay away can Jenna accept his limitations? All while trying to save the Fix on Sixth with a small remodel and a Fix on Sixth’s Man of the Month calendar model contest.
Down On Me did a good job prepping us for the upcoming books in the series. In the end I’m happy that Reece and Jenna have their HEA. We’ll see what February brings. 4 Stars
WHEW… I am going to love this series! What great characters to start off the New Year with! The Story line and characters will keep you interested and wanting more… Cannot wait for the other Man of the Month BOOKS! So looking forward to this series!
I can not fault J. Kenner’s writing from the moment you open that book you are drawn in. I have read all her books and don’t have a bad word to say about any of them. This is one of my go to authors.
I can’t wait for the rest of this series as I was screaming out for more. Reece, Brent and Jenna have been friends for a long time and they made a pact that none of them will date their friend Jenna, but now Reece can’t hide his feelings for Jenna and what Reece doesn’t know Jenna feels the same and instead of acting on them Jenna tries to push him away.
I loved the chemistry between the characters, they were well developed and you were made to feel you were part of their world.
Give this book a read you won’t be disappointed
J Kenner has once again written an enjoyable story that has left me wanting more. This is the first story in a 12 book series and was a great introduction to a fantastic series. The characters were all likeable and the storyline was captivating. I cant wait to read more of this series and find out more about the other characters.
Oh my, what a great start to this new series by J. Kenner! In this first story, we’re introduced to Brent, Reece and Jenna, who have been best friends for a long time. Reece and Jenna start to feel “more than friends” feelings toward one another, but both are afraid of endangering their long standing friendship if things don’t work out. Loved the friendship dynamic of the three, and the corresponding relationship they have with The Fix on Sixth’s owner, Tyree, whom we first met in Wicked Torture (Noah and Kiki’s story). We also meet-up with some of our past peripheral characters from the Wicked Nights series who will play starring roles in future calendar months.
This story contains all the hot and spicy elements we love from Julie Kenner, and I love how she ends this story; with a sense of completion, yet, a lead-in to the next book in the series. Love the concept of the series and can’t wait to see how the campaign to save the bar unfolds!
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
A fantastic friends to lovers romance that’ll burn you up…
It’s times like these that I ‘m so grateful that there are twelve months in a year. I don’t quite know how Julie Kenner comes up with these ideas, but all i can say is that I am super duper glad she does. I’m not going to lie, I was a little skeptic of what this series would entail, but after Down On Me, I cannot wait for the next book in the series, Hold On Tight.
Like I said before I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the Man of the Month series, however from what I’ve gathered, after reading Down On Me, is that it will take some of my most loved tropes and spin them into steamy, sexy, super hot plots. Going into this book I was a little apprehensive, I’m not a massive fan of third person narrative. This is a personal thing, and in all honesty, it doesn’t reflect badly on the story. At all. I was actually pleasantly surprised at how easily I got into the story despite it. Plot wise, this is a friends to lovers romance, however it is a slow burn in terms of how quickly the protagonists get together, not just sexually, but also in terms of allowing themselves to admit to their feelings. Saying that, the progression from there is straightforward-ish and I think that the way in which it’s followed through makes it a rather unique take on the trope. I really can’t fault the plot development or the writing. For me they are both bang on the money.
Due to the third person narrative, I didn’t think that I’d come to love the characters as much as I did. The reality really surpassed my expectations. I loved bot Reece and Jenna, they both had their less than great moments, but at no point did I ever feel like I disliked them. If anything my appreciation of them grew the farther I got into the story. I really loved how the friendship evolved, but it never interfered with their friendship group. I think for me that was something that really made the story different, as well as the way that despite their relationship, the underlying and ongoing plot of the series was never undermined. For me Reece was a great hero. He’s a real fix it alpha male, and I liked that he never handled Jenna with kid gloves. You know, he said what he meant and meant what he said, and she Jenna was very much the same. Their back and forth through the story is just freaking hot. The chemistry between them is undeniable and inescapable. It’s like a volcano, even when erupting the heat, fire and pressure build to new heights. That office scene…oh. my. goody. good. god. that scene is just PHENOMENAL. It is hot and it is arousing and at the same time it’s so emotionally charged. I just…speechless!
Overall, I loved Down On Me. I thought that the narrative would really bring it down in my estimation, but I was completely sucked in from cover to cover. This is one of those books that’s just unputdownable. The drama isn’t far-fetched and over the top, but yet you’re constantly eager for more. It really is a fantastic start to a promising series. I’m not quite sure who’s story Hold On Tight will focus on, but all I can say is that I really cannot wait for Brent’s story. Bring it on!
4 They Can’t Fight Their Attraction Any Longer Stars!!!
This is the first book in this new concept series by Ms. Kenner and it’s a great start to a hot and sexy set of twelve books. Reese and Jenna have been friends for so many years and both of them are reluctant to risk that friendship by admitting their overwhelming attraction to each other.
What’s a man to do to get the woman of his dreams? Well, along with fighting to save the bar he manages with his friends The Fix on Sixth he battles his nerves of going to Jenna and succumbing to her beauty and pull of his heartstrings. Ms. Kenner definitely doesn’t disappoint in the heat of this book that’s for sure! These two, once they succumb, are SIZZLING!!!
It’s definitely not an easy road for Reese and Jenna, but they are the only ones that can decide what their future looks like and if they’re willing compromise what they envisioned it looking like. Spencer’s book is next and I just know it’s going to be another sexy read!
I’ve never read J. Kenner before and decided to take a chance when I saw a post for her Man of the Month series. Down on Me is book number one and I was pulled in from the start of the book!
We immediately meet Reece who is trying to forget about the one girl he wants, Jenna, while having a little fun with someone else. Reece has been feeling a certain way about his lifelong friend recently but knows that if could potentially mess up the trio of besties, Brent, Jenna and Reece.
Brent, Jenna and Reece have been together through a lot of different things and have always remained best friends, up until 8 months ago when both Jenna and Reece saw each other a little differently. Both have chosen to keep quiet and not tell each other until one night, everything comes to light.
The story centers around The Fix, a local bar which Brent, Reece and Jenna try to help become a more prominent fixture in Austin before it ends up closed for good. All three each bring something to the table and know with the right promotions and marketing, business will be booming. And so the Man of the Month contest was born…now just to convince the guys to participate 😉
Down on Me is the start of the series and you are given plenty of little hints about how it will all come together in the rest of the series. I’m looking forward to all the adventure and sexy times in all the books to come!
I was so excited when I found out that J Kenner had a new series and she definitely started the series off with a bang!! This first book is a friends to lovers story that will have you anxiously reading to see what happens next. Reece has grown up thinking that marriage was a sham and he was destined to be Mr. One night stand, then he realized that the woman that would change everything had been in front of him his whole life. But when their views on the future clash so spectacularly, they have to decide where to go from here.
This book speak for itself when you read it but I feel have have to say that I loved it. I had a hard time taking side between Reece and Jenna because I could completely relate to both of them. The writing made it easy to get involved and stay hooked. I highly recommend that you get started now so you can be ready for the rest, of what I am sure is going to be, an amazing series!
