Ian Gamble and Kennedy Matthews are the perfect couple! Gamble was all set to get drunk and try to forget for a while but all that came to a halt when he and Kennedy were caught in a fire at the Crooked Angel. It turned out to be suspicious and when Kennedy starts keeping secrets Gamble has to unearth they become embroiled in an ongoing arson investigation involving her brother. Will they survive without getting burned? Oh, this story was full of suspense and so much sexy banter along with so much sexy, sexy, steamy, … , oh yeah, these two are explosive together! This can be read as a standalone but this entire series is so good I recommend each and every book.
Down Deep by Kimberly Kincaid
Station Seventeen #4
REVIEW
Ian Gamble has ghosts and every year he pays tribute to them with a drink…well…quite a few drinks. Kennedy Matthews is bartending the night Ian settles in to drink to his lost comrades and though she keeps the drinks coming she also keeps an eye on him. By the end of the evening the two have walked through fire, almost literally, and are soon to be on the case looking for an arsonist.
This is romantic suspense with an arsonist to find, a brother to help and ghosts to lay to rest. There is action and suspense, an evil villain to thwart, a brother to save, secrets to share and some things to overcome as Kennedy and Ian find their way to a HEA. Station Seventeen still has a number of people needing to find their happily ever after so I see more books in the future to read and enjoy.
Did I enjoy the book? Yes
Will I read more in the series? Yes
Did I learn anything? Yes
What did I learn? Well, I thought eidetic memory only referred to visual input but found out that it can be auditory or kinesthetic after a bit of time with google 😉
Thank you to the author, NetGalley and InkSlinger for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4 Stars
Once again Kimberly Kincaid has brought us a story from Station Seventeen filled with heat, heart, and passion. In this fourth book in the series we get the story of Ian Gamble and Kennedy Mathews. As with all the books you can read this one standalone but do yourself a favor and read this entire series. There is a wonderful twist of romance and suspense that will keep you turning page after page.
Gamble is a firefighter at Station Seventeen who is looking for one night to drown his sorrows and memories. All of that comes to an end when a fire breaks out at the bar Kennedy Mathews manages and Gamble is currently occupying. Gamble gets them out safely but the real trouble starts when the fire is determined to be the work of an arson and Kennedy is not being as truthful as she should be. Caught in the middle Gamble works with arson investigators and Kennedy to get to the truth about what happened that night all while fighting the attraction that is smoldering between him and Kennedy. Can they get to the truth without getting burned?
I highly recommend this one.
Book #4 in Station 17. Absolutely love this series. I loved Gamble and Kennedy. Both have issues.
Kennedy will do anything to protect the people she loves. She didn’t have it easy growing up. The night the fire broke out at her bar and grill things heated up pretty fast. It was intense with Ian too. She knew he was fighting something, and she wasn’t trying to invade on what was going on. But she wanted to help if she could. That wasn’t all that happened that night. It wasn’t good.
That’s when she froze up.
Gamble knew Kennedy was hiding something. It was not good either. He had to get it out of her.
He would help if he could. He liked her, but she was a one time kind of girl.
Full of twist and turns. Suspense and so much more..
Once again , this talented author gives us a story that is not only engaging, but whose characters are complex and interesting.
This book belongs to Ian Gamble and Kennedy Matthews. Ian is a former Marine whose last mission still causes him anguish .He is currently an engine lieutenant of Station Seventeen. Kennedy is the bar manager of the bar the station members frequent. Her one weakness is her brother. Both have secrets and both have had heartbreaks.
When a fire occurs at the bar, the action begins as well as the attraction. Will they be able to uncover the truths and in doing so, will they go their separate ways or will they give trust and love a chance?
Another great addition to this series.
I was entrusted this copy by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This Book Rocked!!
This was probably the hottest book of all the S17 books.
Gamble and Kennedy are each a little battered and a little broken.
They went from denying their feelings for each other to FREAKING FIRE in seconds!
The side story line about the brother and the arsonist was fascinating!
I really enjoyed this one and had a hard time putting it down!
I hope we get more from them!
Holy motherclucker, Down Deep is a firefighting GEM!
Only my second novel by Kimberly Kincaid, Down Deep is the fourth standalone in the Station Seventeen series, and I loved every page!
Ian Gamble is a firefighter with Station Seventeen, part of Seventeen and the Thirty-third precincts chosen family, but as Kennedy tells him later in the book: maybe one step removed.
Because of Gambles past in the Marine Corps, his time overseas and the damage that does to anyone’s mind, he is not able to bring himself any further into the fold.
Kennedy is the manager of the Crooked Angel bar where the majority of the Firefighters, Leo’s, and EMT’s from Station Seventeen and the Thirty-third precinct hang and a former Northie, resident of the inner city, in Remington, North Carolina. She’s good at many things, best of all appearing tougher than she is and avoiding more than the barest of social attachments.
After Gamble helps Kennedy escape a fire set outside the Crooked Angel tensions escalate further when Gamble knows Kennedy saw more than she told police, both are trying to lock down any attraction they are feeling, and Kennedy is trying to keep her kid brother Xander safe.
This book reminds me of probably my favourite Firefighter movie ever, Backdraft, with the tension, a serial arsonist who’s lost touch with reality, and bad guys richer than Croesus. Seriously, who has an Aston Martin in the inner city anywhere?
Kimberly’s writing in dealing with both Gamble’s PTSD and Kennedy’s fears was respectful, insightful, and spot on. The action in this book is fast paced, the suspense enough to have me turning pages faster and faster to avoid missing anything, and the sex is HOT (!!!), 5 alarm, sensual not raunchy, but absolutely beautiful!! A full 6 stars for Kincaid’s Down Deep!
Omg! Kimberly Kincaid sure knows how to get my heart pumping in her suspenseful romances. I absolutely loved Gamble and Kennedy. Gamble and his ghosts made me feel so much for him and his past. And Kennedy was just so strong and so caring. Together they were hot and they gave me all the feels. I hadn’t read this story before I read The Rookie but I really loved seeing how Xander has grown from this story to his very own. I’ve really enjoyed the Station Seventeen series and I can’t wait to read the new Intelligence Unit series next.
This is Book 5 in the Station Seventeen Series
This is the story of Gamble & Kennedy. Gamble is a Lieutenant Firefighter at Station Seventeen. Kennedy manages the bar that Station Seventeen and Remington Intelligence employees go to hang out. Gamble is so deeply troubled from his time in the Marines, that he has survivor’s guilt. Kennedy comes from an extremely bad part of town and had to raise her brother in it, and always has her guard up. This story revolves around her brother, and of course, her relationship with Gamble. There is a battle within each of themselves to be together, but there is an HEA. There are near death experiences, too. This is an extremely action oriented book, as well as all the others in this series. The action scenes in this series are very detailed and well written. You feel like you are a part of them. Kudos to Kimberly Kincaid for a great, great series. Now on to the last novella in this series.
I absolutely LOVED this Station 17 story. It’s more of a thriller than some of Kincaid’s earlier stories but while a former Force Recon marine, a bartender from the wrong side of the tracks and her brother are forced to deal with an arsonist who is is terrorizing Remington, there’s plenty of heat in the bedroom too.
The book stands well on it’s own but, those who have followed the series will love the cameos from the Station 17 staff and the chance to get reacquainted the intelligence unit from the RPD who have played such an important role in previous novels.
Down Deep is a heart stopping, mile a minute barn burner that deals with the bonds of family, both those that are blood and those we accept into our lives that will throw surprise after surprise at you, right down to the final pages.
I you love hot firemen, great suspense smart, tough heroines who give as good as they get, this book needs to go on the very top of your TBR.
Down Deep is the fourth in Kimberly Kincaid’s Station Seventeen series. The series focuses on firefighters in Remington’s Station Seventeen and their compatriots in the intelligence unit at RPD. Ian Gamble’s family not-by-blood was his Force Recon team, and then his fellow firefighters. He doesn’t expect to stumble into a thing with bar manager Kennedy Matthews. But he does understand the depths of her need to protect those she loves, and is floored when he sees understanding reflected back in her eyes.
Ms Kincaid’s penned another page-turning read, and the combination of adrenaline fueled action and steamy passion is addictive! Couldn’t put this one down!
This book is my favorite in the Station 17 series.
Honestly I say this every time but I couldn’t put this down! Loved it.
Ian is an ex Marine that is now a Lieutenant at the local Fire Department (Station Seventeen). Kennedy is the local bar owner from the wrong side of the tracks.
When Ian goes to Kennedy’s bar (which happens to be the hang out for the station) to have a drink on the anniversary of the death of his men he sees her….Kennedy. The tattooed bad ass bar owner.
Kennedy has struggled her whole life. She busted her butt to get where she is now. A successful business owner. She’s not going to let anything happen to her or her business.
When an insane arsonist is running around town trying to destroy everything he can….Kennedy and Ian team up….sort of. They need to find and stop this psycho ASAP. When things heat up in the investigation they also heat up between Kennedy and Ian.
Kimberly Kincaid totally surprised me with this book. It’s a romantic suspense!!! I love them!!! I haven’t read the other books in this series so I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I’m glad to report that I’m going to go back to the beginning and read the rest of the series. Thanks so much Kimberly…..you just made my TBR pile even bigger that it was.

This book was so action packed, it was most definitely a page turner. I loved Kennedy and all her bad-assery. She may not have come from the best side of the tracks, but she worked hard to make her life a better one, all while trying to look out for her brother. She’s a tough cookie, has a big guarded heart, and it’s not until she meets Gamble, that she starts to follow her heart and let some walls down.
Gamble is a big beast of a man. I loved him! One of those, keeps to himself kind of guys that has a heartbreaking and tramatic past he doesn’t like to share with others. I was so happy when he finally dropped his walls for Kennedy and confided in her. They did it together and the two made some pretty steamy scenes!
This book had a great storyline, and while I enjoyed it, there were some parts that kind of dragged a little for me and I had a hard time focusing and would have to set the book down and come back to it. That said, there were some parts I couldn’t read fast enough and practically devoured. It was kind of a mix of emotions for me. Some parts a little slow and others brimming with action. All in all great read, filled with a hot couple, a bit of family drama and then some, and lots of interesting side characters to boot. The ending kind of just ended though, if that makes sense. I guess I was hoping for a bit more, maybe an epilogue, but enjoyed the book nonetheless.

To start with DOWN DEEP has an attractive, attention grabbing cover. Then the description was intriguing. I enjoyed the sassy, strong, bar manager, Kennedy Matthews! Instantly fell for Ian Gamble, former Marine, turn fireman, who had deep secrets to his past. I enjoyed the chemistry of Kennedy and Gamble and the overall story line. It was intense, heartbreaking and a nail biter. I’m looking forward to reading more from this series!
Down Deep
Hot and Fiesty! Gamble and Kennedy are perfect for each other! This is the perfect story of the broody, hot firefighter and the beautiful bartender who sees his demons and wants to help even when he pushes her away. But, she needs him just as much especially when a crazy arsonist drags Kennedy’s brother into a whole lot of trouble.
I loved the story and loved the characters! This book is definitely one you should take the time to read!
Oh wow, what a read this one turned out to be. This was a first read from Kimberly Kincaid and it definitely won’t be my last! Down Deep has totally rekindled my love for romance with a bit of suspense in them. There’s nothing like getting your heart rate going as you go from page to page, waiting to see what happens next.
It has been so long since I’ve had a read like this in my hand. Not only do we get the growing story between Ian and Kennedy, but also the hunt for the psycho and sick arsonist trying to keep the whole town blazing. And those two elements is what truly had me hooked in Down Deep. Being the true romantic that I am, I was hoping to see more of that. Even though there was a few ever so steamy scenes between the two of the tthem, trying to take down the arsonist was the forefront of this story.
With Ian’s military background and the understanding of loss, he has some mental wounds that he hasn’t quite healed yet. And it’s his drive as a firefighter to make sure all of his guys come out when they storm a fire blazing building. To never have to relive a moment like that again. With his constant need to protect everything and everyone he cares about, I loved that he didn’t treat Kennedy like a damsel in distress. Her experience of growing up in the rough part of town, she is more than capable of handling herself.
Down Deep was such a page-turner, it’s pretty easy to consume in just one sitting. There’s always something happening and it intrigues you to keep reading until the end. Even though I yearn for more of the relationship development, it was still a solid read! This definitely won’t be the last time I read from this author.
Down Deep: Fantastic! Loved everything about this book. Ian Gamble is my favorite Hot Firefighter! They were a lot a like in many ways and that’s what brought the story together so well. Kimberly Kincaid did a fantastic job of writing this addition to the series. Love all of the character throughout the series but it was something about this one that really made me fall in love with the big guy! Great Job!
Dangerous, exciting and oh so sexy! With the next installment in Kimberly Kincaid’s ever-hot Station Seventeen series, we get sexy Lieutenant Gamble’s story! I knew when I saw that he was getting mixed up with the sassy Kennedy that it would be a spicy, fun read … and it did not disappoint! This entire series has been a really enjoyable read with close-knit characters, danger and intrigue at the forefront and hot romantic connections galore!
Firefighter Ian Gamble is busy drinking the past off his mind at the station’s favorite hangout, The Crooked Angel when the place catches fire. His experience with fire and danger allows him to lead the way to safety for feisty bar manager Kennedy Matthews. When an investigation leads to an arson call, Gamble is determined to get to the bottom of who is messing with his territory … especially when Kennedy starts acting shifty!
Kennedy Matthews comes from a hard background, and the one person that she would do anything for is her little brother. When she catches sight of the fact that he’s somehow mixed up with a dangerous arsonist, she’s determined to find a way to help him, no matter what. Gamble doesn’t want her putting herself into danger, so he insists on riding shotgun on her adventure … and you know close proximity between two firecrackers like that is going to lead to sparks that will more than sizzle!
