This story follows rookie hockey player Landon Covington and the team’s charity organizer director Aubree Derrick. While celebrating their mutual friends Owen and Becca’s joint bachelor/bachelorette party in Vegas…these two find themselves spending a lot of time together. Eventually we find out these two were hitched while in Vegas! Aubree is embarrassed about the situation but Landon sees it as an opportunity to get to know one another and give this a true chance.
Landon was not hard to swoon over whatsoever. He was so sweet and thoughtful. He gave every thing he did his all. I admired him from the very beginning. Landon had a secret he’s been keeping from his fellow teammates and friends, he was a virgin. Landon wanted to focus on his hockey career and was waiting on the right person. I found this so sweet and it fit his personality perfectly.
Aubree, on the other hand, took some time for me to bond with. She was a workaholic and loved every minute of it. Aubree’s parents divorced when she was quite young so she saw her mother trying relationship after relationship constantly. This left an impression on Aubree that her mother needed a man to fulfill her and she was determined to make her own way without leaning on anyone. This proved difficult for her marriage to Landon. He wanted to give it his all while Aubree always kept him at arm’s length to protect herself.
Seeing these two stumble through their predicament was entertaining. It was hard at times because Aubree didn’t seem to always give it her and she also held back information at times that I didn’t agree with. However, by the end of the story I loved these two and their relationship. It was an adorable story and quite steamy I might add! I loved it!
Wonderful romantic comedy.by Kendall Ryan! It was so much fun seeing Bree and Landon as they got to know each other. Swoon-worthy novel!
Romance needs laughter and who better to give us a combination of the both better than Kendall Ryan!
Landon and Aubree are just hot! He’s younger, she’s older! He wants to settle. She’s standoffish! But their path to love is filled with heat, passion, humor, anger and fun! Once again Kendall gives me a book to swoon for!
Plenty of fun and sweet moments
I just needed such a read to lighten the mood and to bring more drama and angst on top of everyday life. This was very light and fun read for me. Maybe not much of a substance or tangle or complicated emotions but as I said these are also a good qualities for someone who isn’t looking for a book that would consume one emotionally. Very funny characters with really good chemistry.
It was lighthearted, fun read with younger man pursuing slightly older woman. Some twists and turns thrown their way that only added to the appeal. I loved when both protagonists relaxed how they could banter together bringing me a great time full of humour , fun and later on steam and hotness.
Sports romance
Age gap
Older woman/younger man
Virgin hockey hero
Vegas wedding
Down and Dirty is book 5 in Kendall Ryan’s Hot Jocks series and was a total treat! Landon and Aubree were adorable! Despite their age difference these two just fit. I loved watching them navigate their attraction, connection, and differences. All which took their story from hot to sweet to more. This was a fun, quick and sexy read and definitely recommend.
Narration was performed by Jacob Morgan and Emma Wilder and need I say more? Jacob Morgan is the perfect Landon. He’s sexy yet sweet and you just can’t go wrong with that voice! Emma Wilder is quickly becoming one of my favorite female narrators. She has a more mature sounding voice that fit Aubree perfectly. They this audiobook even better!
I absolutely love Landon. This book was thoroughly enjoyable. All the boys make an appearance in this story. I couldn’t stop reading this story—looks over at clock 3:30am.
I loved this story and it came at such a perfect time! I loved Landon SOOOO much! His alpha-ness was just what I needed. I wasn’t a big fan of Aubree at the beginning just because she was so anti-Landon because he was younger than her. Although FINALLY she was able to accept that Landon was it for her. Period.
Landon is different from the other guys on the team. He’s not the guy to be into puck bunnies, although his attention has always been caught by Aubree. So who wouldn’t be excited when she flirts with him? Aubree decides some flirting isn’t a big deal, Landon is hot and she likes to flirt. Until she wakes up and realizes what happened.
Aubree was against the marriage to Landon but I’m so glad that he stuck with it. It would have been so easy for him to call it done and end it but he didn’t and that’s why I love Landon so very much!
Kendall Ryan does it again with Book #5 in the Hot Jocks series. Even though it is book 5 it is a stand alone. Down and Dirty is a lighthearted fun read about a younger man and slightly older woman with a few fun twist thrown in to the mixture. I loved the banter between Landon and Aubree. It is a great read full of heart, humor and heat. Happy Reading!
This is the first book in this series where I just listen to Landon and Aubree’s story of a younger/older troupe and it is one that I enjoyed and could not put down. The narrators Jacob Morgan and Emma Wilder did a great job on portraying their characters.
Landon Covington is the rookie from the Seattle Ice Hawks and he tends to get pranked on many occasions by his teammates. This time around his team got him good during a trip to Vegas where he ends up married to Aubree Derrick who is a career-driven woman with dreams of being something more in her current position. Needless to say waking up married was not in her plan and has thrown everything off course. Landon is a hottie who will have you swooning and have you questioning the unexpecting mistake that was made.
Since the start you can feel the hesitation from Aubree and the determination by Landon on trying to make his marriage work. Opposite attract that have a growing chemistry that will have you wanting to risk for more. The banter and the names they call each other to make the situation more real. The question is whether their new found status will work in the long run or it something temporary that is new and exciting. Needing to separate how everything started is the challenge that they have to face. This listen will have you rooting for Landon and Aubree’s relationship in hopes for a happily ever after.
Overall an ok read. Really liked Landon, not a fan of Aubree. Basic plot, older woman Aubree (30), marries the rookie on the team, Landon (23) during a drunken weekend in Vegas. Plot twist, Landon is a virgin (he’s done everything but the deed). While Aubree is horrified and wants to get an annulment, Landon wants to give it a go and date his wife. They agree, but Aubree keeps some major, life changing news from him. Bottom line, Landon was a pretty mature sweet guy and Aubree is an immature, neurotic mess.
****** AUDIOBOOK REVIEW ******
There’s something about being with a best friend that just checks everything off in a relationship and if that relationship has some sexual chemistry as well, I’m not sure what else a real and lasting relationship needs. I love books that have this underlying issue… friends that could and should be more if they weren’t scared of losing a friendship and creating something so much more than they thought possible. Landon and Aubrey have such an awesome story to tell! Landon is just so adorable! He can’t be anything but a figment of my imagination! He’s definitely the more fanciful one. Whereas, Aubrey is way more hesitant and I totally get why! It’s like Kendall Ryan flipped the switch on us and gave us a swap of sexes! I loved it!
Of course, Jacob Morgan and Emma Wilder were the best narrators. I loved that Morgan has this deep tenor. It helped Landon come off as a fierce male. I think he needed that bit of hardness added and Morgan played his emotions and really fun personality perfectly. I enjoy listening to Emma Wilder so very much! She has such a fun and happy voice but she pulls off every emotion with her voice. I love listening to both these narrators and even more when they’re together.
“He tastes like red wine and bad decisions, and although I haven’t had a sip of alcohol since last night, one taste of him and I feel instantly drunk.”
Down and Dirty is the fifth book in the Hot Jocks series and the story of our rookie, Landon “Lovey” Covington and Aubree. If you had been following this series, you’d know these characters from previous books.
Although the story may start as a “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” type, the main characters tried to make their marriage work. What I really loved the most is that Landon proved to be the one who pursue for the marriage to work more, so unlike to what you would usually hear from this kind of situation. Not only that, Landon isn’t the typical jock. He is sweet and old school that is very refreshing from our usual staple of smug, manwhore kind. Aubree is career focused, independent woman. Her pasts taught her to be self reliant and wary of relationships, that settling down is not in her cards. I would say that they are perfect fit for each other despite the drama and fear of failing. Overall, another great addition to the series and looking forward to the story of their Captain, Grant.
This is a Vegas wedding gone wrong for one but right for the other. Landon, although he is the youngest and the rookie on the squad, he’s the most level headed. Aubree on the other hand would like to end this marriage ASAP. But Landon convinces her otherwise.
I don’t want to say too much. Just that Landon is my favorite and that you need to read this book! All hearts and swoons on this one.
If you like the “woke up married in Vegas” trope, this is a cute book. Aubree is 30 years old and works for the foundation arm of a professional hockey team. Landon is the 23 year old star of the team. They are in Vegas together and wake up married. Aubree wants a quickie annulment but Landon has other ideas. He wants to give the marriage a chance and he’s willing to woo Aubree. A sweet, hot read from Kendall Ryan.
I highly recommend this entire series, I love all the characters & their love stories!!
An engaging page turner – an older woman younger man romance – a fun steamy book five in the Hot Jocks series! The story line is well-developed, emotionally deep, well written, and relatable with adventure, witty banter, friends, humour, drama, and ups and downs. The characters are likeable; their chemistry is off the charts! Definitely recommended.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I really enjoyed this younger man and older women storyline. What happens in Vegas, does it stay in Vegas? Landon is definitely swoon worthy, sexy and sweet. Aubree struggles with what happens in Vegas but can’t deny their chemistry. Absolutely loved Jacob Morgan and Emma Wilder’s narration. Definitely worth the read/listen.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the books in the Hot Jocks series by author Kendall Ryan. Yes, these are a bunch of sexy hockey players, but Kendall manages to make it more than your average sports romance. DOWN AND DIRTY, the fifth book in the series, has plenty of steam, but, even better, a hero with a heart of gold.
Landon Covington is what I’m guessing is a pretty rare breed when it comes to hot young hockey players. Sure, he’s young and on his way up in the ranks, but he’s also sweet, smart, and harboring a secret that makes him stand out from his peers. And he’s also just what Aubree Derrick needs in her life. Now, if he can just convince her…
I enjoy an age gap romance, and one that’s of the reverse variety is a nice change. Aubree and Derrick may be separated by years, but they’re in the same boat when it comes to romance. Both have been so busy with their careers that their love lives have taken a back seat. Until…that weekend in Vegas that refuses to stay in Vegas. Fun, sexy, and sweet, with just a touch of drama, Landon’s and Aubree’s story is the perfect addition to the Hot Jocks series.
FIVE HOCKEY STARS for Aubree and Landon !!!
“Down and Dirty” is a hot sports romance book with an age-gap trope (older woman and younger man).
This book is a quick read and I really enjoyed reading it.
Kendall made me laugh a lot through the whole book with her characters and their dialogues.
I can’t wait for another book in this series!
If you love previous books from this series, you need to read this one!
I want to start out with you really can’t go wrong with a Kendall Ryan book. They are always well set up and the stories flow smoothly. That being said, this was a bit different. He’s younger (but more mature). He’s uncertain (and a virgin) and she’s more experienced. They‘ve known each other a while and have chemistry but whether they will actually get together is in some doubt in the beginning. Neither seems suited to the other for anything long term. But they give it a shot and end up married. Now they have a whole new dynamic that they’ll have to deal with in the midst of real life.
This was a bit of a twist and even though the will he/won’t he was well handled, there wasn’t a big deal made of the age difference with might have explained her reluctance to stay married but didn’t seem to have anything to do with the story. Still it was a fast fun read with enough steam to keep you sweating and enough fun to keep you laughing. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).
