“Follow the adventures of a news-photographer-turned-private-eye as he seeks truth, justice, and an affair with his ex-wife” (The New York Times) in this hilarious caper from bestselling author Carl Hiaasen.R.J. Decker, star tenant of the local trailer park and neophyte private eye is fishing for a killer. Thanks to a sportsman’s scam that’s anything but sportsmanlike, there’s a body floating in … there’s a body floating in Coon Bog, Florida—and a lot that’s rotten in the murky waters of big-stakes, large-mouth bass tournaments. Here Decker will team up with a half-blind, half-mad hermit with an appetite for road kill; dare to kiss his ex-wife while she’s in bed with her new husband; and face deadly TV evangelists, dangerously seductive women, and a pistol-toting redneck with a pit bull on his arm. And here his own life becomes part of the stakes. For while the “double whammy” is the lure, first prize is for the most ingenious murder.

Really over-the-top plot but makes you laugh out loud
My first Carl Hiassen book. At first I wasn’t sure I would like it but I found myself unable to stop reading! Lots of twists and turns and I really liked the characters. I usually read cozy mysteries but this is NOT a cozy mystery by any means but I think it was better than Jonathan Kellerman!!
Enjoy
Carl writes some zany, funny, entertaining stories.
I’m a fisherman so Double Whammy was right up my alley. Good suspense
With this book Carl keeps you wondering what’s next. He catches the flavor of our great swamp and every thing else that makes Florida such a great place to live. Just find a comfy place to settle into and prepare to be entertained.
Carl Hiasaan is crazy funny, I need a dose of his fiction every now and then.
Carl Hiaasen’s books are a hoot, I have read many of them, if you like murder mysteries that make you laugh Hiaasen is your guy.
Always enjoy Carl Hiaasen’s books this one was no different!
Always love this author. Quirky characters and story lines. Great read
Love books set in the Florida swamps
I live in Florida . This author nails it in describing a state that is also a state of mind.Florida is funny and so is this book.
Highly amusing writing style. Great chanceracters. Almost believable.
Action packed including a bit of Florida folklore and history.
I love all his books!
When you need a summer or beach read — with some laughs — Carl Hiaasen is the way to go. He writes funny, twisted stories — all while skewering Florida’s politicians and developers for concreting over the state and over-building.
A fun read
Hiaassen’s books are filled with wonderfully flawed characters, really dumb bad guys and lots of action. They make me long for an unspoiled Florida, and I don’t even live there.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book!
You have to love Hiassen. His stories are witty and entertaining and his characters are quirky and multi-dimensional. Like Elmore Leonard, who also wrote books similar in sub-genre, Hiassen writes books that you can’t put down.
How much fun can you ask of a book? This one sure delivered. Skink never lets you down.
