How do you screw up your life in three steps? Easy. Step one: Graduate from college with no prospective jobs lined up. Step two: Move back home with your parents because no job unfortunately equals no money. Step three: Forget to Facebook stalk the guy who broke your heart before accepting a job in a town that has a smaller population than a frat party on a Wednesday night. I could quit but … night.
I could quit but living with my parents forever didn’t seem like a solid life plan.
Jase Hale was the golden boy. Our boss thought he was beyond talented. The receptionist sent him more flirty smiles and baked goods than was considered normal for a woman old enough to be his mom.
I tried to avoid him and his undeniable charm at all costs.
He did everything he could to get under my skin.
Every encounter left me reeling.
Every smirk made my stomach flip.
I assumed he was playing with me, just pushing my buttons like always, but when he lifted me onto my desk and shut me up with his lips on mine, I was more confused than ever.
It didn’t matter that he was trying to prove me wrong. Having my heart broken by the same jerk twice in one lifetime wasn’t an option.
He only got one shot with me and he sure as hell didn’t order a double.

I so loved getting to know Sophie and Jace more in this book. And it was absolutely perfect. Although the first and last part tore my heart to pieces the middle and the very ending made it all better. I couldn’t put this book down!!! Once I started reading it I had to finish it. And let me tell you this is one hawt book!! I thought it was going to set my kindle on fire. I can’t wait for the next book because I am absolutely loving this series!!! – By Tina
Double Shot is one of those books that you know you would enjoy but somewhere along the way you realize that this is not the one you are going to enjoy as much as you hoped.
I like Jase and Sophie and I did like their story but I, however, didn’t necessarily love it.
The story was fun and had all the markers for a quick and easy read with minimal angst, which my angst-loving self enjoys. The banter was fun, I loved Sophie’s humour and I loved her relationship with her family.
I think my main issue was development. I needed more from Jase and Sophie — a deeper connection to be formed. It felt like instead of meaningful moments, that showed the progression from enemies to lovers, was lacking and rather filled with sex. The chemistry was spot on, don’t get me wrong, but I’m at that stage in my reading where I want deep meaningful conversations rather than just sex one page after the other.
As I’ve already said, the story is good, but that pesky “more” was lacking, otherwise, this book had the full potential to be a 4 star read.
Anyway, this is my first Holly Renee book. There are more books under her belt and I won’t be hesitating to pick one up.
3 Stars!
A Double Shot is what I need of this book! Jase and Sophie I love them!
Double Shot was a quick, easy read, that had drama, angst, and hotness to keep me going. Jase is Sophie’s brother’s best friend, he loves her, she loves him but he hurt her when she was younger and she doesn’t want to give him another chance. Trucker is the only family Jase has and he didn’t want to ruin it by dating Sophie.
“He only gets one shot with me and it sure as hell wasn’t a double.”
Sophie gets a job working at the same place Jase does, and Jase just happens to be her new boss. The attraction, and chemistry they have for each other is undeniable even for them.
What happens when Sophie gives him another chance and he makes her in front of everyone? Will she go back for that third shot or call it a night?
Holly made me laugh out loud, made me want to smack both Jase and Sophia, but left me feeling satisfied with what I just read.
Every book I read by Holly is better than the last, and I should say I have loved every single one!!!
Double Shot by Holly Renee was a fabulous read!
I have been a huge fan of Holly’s writing since her very first novel. Since then, I have only fallen more and more in love.
Jase is a character that you can’t help but swoon over. He is so sexy, and captivating that you will constantly find yourself wanting to know more and more about him. You will not only be drawn in by his persona, but also by his backstory and drive to be a person that is respected.
I highly recommend Double Shot to everyone. Holly has written another must read novel.
5/5 Stars!
The main character is sassy and has no filter! Jase, who is the mysterious “hot guy” best friend from Bottoms Up, finally comes to light in this book. Kept me turning the page and laughing the whole way through.
Enemies to lovers is a trope I am always down for. Because hello anger->steam->romance who doesn’t love a good turn around??
This book is one of the absolute best that I have read and I absolutely love Holly’s writing. She develops such amazing characters and circumstances surrounding those characters. Not only do those character have their quirks but they are super realistic and like your reading about a friend. Not just some character in a book!
These two didn’t have the biggest hate for each, which in fact was a bit hard to have much to hate each other. You can’t help but love when two people come together under circumstances that would normally consist of just avoiding each other until you can’t anymore.
An office romance and brothers best friend is the perfect way to have a romance turn out. Jase was such a great character and I loved how much he was such a driving force in this book!
Jase and Sophie had some seriously amazing chemistry between the two and the steam only made it better.
I really loved being able to see them get married. It was such a sweet time and I just swooned all over the place with their love and being able to share it with friends and family!
Thank you so much to Holly Renee for the free review copy in exchange for my honest review!
Buona lettura!
Double Shot is book 2 of the Rock Bottom series, a series of interconnected standalones. I have not read the first book, Bottoms Up, yet, but that did not affect my enjoyment of Double Shot and I didn’t feel like I was missing anything by not having read the first book. Double Shot focuses on Sophie and Jase and is written in 1st person POV of both of the MCs. It features some of my favorite tropes: brother’s best friend, enemies to lovers, and an office romance. This was a really good read. The story was interesting and kept my attention. I loved the banter between the characters and found myself giggling while reading some sections. The sexual tension between Jase and Sophie was off the charts and it was great seeing how their relationship changed and progressed. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a lighthearted, entertaining read with a little angst that has a HEA.
Double Shot was an enjoyable enemies-to-lovers / brother’s best-friend romance that I have been waiting for since Bottoms Up.
Jase Hale and Sophie Moore have had feels for one another since high school but because Jase is Sophie’s brother’s best friend there has always been a line Jase wouldn’t cross. Until one night on Sophie’s 18th birthday when things went south and Sophie started to hate Jase. Now years later, Jase for some reason (we know the real reason why) decided to hire Sophie’s as a favor to his best friend. Was this a mistake or just the opportunity they needed to quit being enemies?
The bantering, the flirting and sexual chemistry were on fire between Jase and Sophie. Plus you get ALOT of office sex! You get to see some of the other characters from Bottom Up and we get Tucker and Kennedy’s wedding in this book. I can’t wait to see what is up with Brooke and Liam.
Double Shot is a great brother’s best friend/office romance. The story was easy to follow, fun, and steamy. The characters were likeable, and their chemistry is undeniable. I liked seeing Sophie’s brother Tucker and his girl Kennedy. You can read their story in the first book Bottom’s Up.
I enjoyed reading Jase and Sophie’s story.
Another fab book by Holly Renee. Once again devoured in one sitting!
Her books just hook you. I’m a huge fan of enemies to lovers.
Can’t wait to see what’s next.
Double Shot might be your shot at falling hard and fast for this author’s irresistible characters.
Who is ready for a raging inferno of chemistry, passion and wonderful characters? Holly Renee
has loaded you a full dose of all three with her new release Double Shot, book 2 in the Rock Bottom Series featuring a combination of a Best friend’s sister and office romance. Now, the synopsis reads as if it’s a enemies to lovers story, but let’s be honest, no one could resist the urge and pull of temptation between these two characters.
Jase and Sophie are pure perfection. Their chemistry is undeniable from the start and hard to resist. Although these two sure “tried” to stay away from each other, it was clearly inevitable their romance would come to fruition giving readers like me, the ultimate weekend read.
If you have never taken a chance on Holly Renee don’t miss out! Double Shot might be your shot at falling hard and fast for this author’s irresistible characters.
4 Double Stars!!
I absolutely loved loved the first book in this series and had been waiting not so patiently for one of Tucker and Kennedy’s friends to get their story. Tucker’s sister and best friend Jase. They were hardly in book one, so I had no idea what to expect going into this.
When Sophie turned 18 she threw herself a party at one of her parents houses. When she had enough liquid courage she made her move. She’s been in love with Jase for as long as she can remember but he’d looked at her as his best friends little sister. But, tonight was different. When they’re alone and both let their walls down and give into their feelings, Sophie’s brother Tucker comes looking for her. Jase freaks out and ends up leaving her alone. Sophie’s never forgave him and wants nothing to do with him.
Now that she’s graduated college and moved back home she can’t find a job. Her brother gets her an interview, but doesn’t let her know Jase has given her the opportunity to interview. Sophie’s pissed but she needs a job. The minute she sees him her thighs and jaw clinch together and her heart speeds up. Sophie will stay away from him as much as possible.
Jase has regretted walking away from Sophie all those years ago. The minute he sees her he knows being around her everyday at the office just might give him a heart attack. But, he wasn’t lying when he said she was the best qualified for the job. He’ll just stay away and continue showing his boss he made the right choice when he left him in charge.
Jase and Sophie did their best to stay away from each other. It just continues proving to be difficult. Sophie’s team leader is a jerk and Jase helps her with a few things. Maybe they could just be friends.
Until a kiss leads to more and these two can’t seem to keep their hands off of each other. It doesn’t matter if they’re at the office or home. If their close to each other it ends up with them tangled in the other.
When Sophie’s brother comes back to town to get married is when the test of them will be. When, how and who will tell Tucker and what will the outcome be. There’s still another obstacle in their way. Will one of them run away or stay.
I read this in one day. These two really were great together. They spent years not speaking for nothing!!! All dumb reasons. I get why Jase ran, Tucker’s his own family and he didn’t wanna loose him. As much as I wanted to smack Sophie I had to keep reminding myself she was only 18yrs old and embarrassed I do get it.
All in all this was a good read. But, the one thing I had things that weren’t believable. All that sex they had in the office. He’s her boss and if these two weren’t doing each other, they were arguing or ignoring each other. I’m not sure how nobody heard any of that. Other than that I really liked this.
Now, if Holly goes back to both Tucker and Kennedy’s roommates and friends. Bc, their stories I’ve been anxious for lol.
If I could give Double Shot more than the allotted five stars I would! This story literally has ALL the feels!!! Sophie wanted Jase to be the one. He didn’t want to lose her brother as a best friend, in turn making her feel embarrassed and awkward. For years they’ve played the hate game with each other, and then he offers her a job.
The realization and awakening that these feelings of hate over the years are actually masking their unrequited love for each other, combined with eye opening moments, and emotional love scenes make Double Shot a DEFINITE MUST READ for 2019!
Grab your favorite drink, pull up a chair, and get lost in love with Jase and Sophie!
”Falling for Jase would be like slipping into a lovely kind of déjà vu. He was like a drug. Addictive, dangerous, and destructive.”
Double Shot was my first book by Holly Renee and for sure it wasn’t my last. I really enjoyed reading Jase and Sophie’s story. It was entertaining with a great flow of the story, a perfect mix of humour, steam, friendship, family and character development. The characters are easy to connect with and the chemistry of Jase and Sophie was more than obvious. I loved the way how easy they fell back into old habits and their easy friendship before their fall out.
The only thing I wished Holly Renee would have dug a little deeper into was Jase’s relationship with Tucker and the “WHY” he was afraid in the past to loose Tucker as his best friend.
”He was my boss, he was my brother’s best friend, but I had never craved a touch so much until I felt his. It was insane, but sanity felt overrated.”
Double Shot is a gorgeous love story and a great way to spend a summer breath spring day enjoying your time with love blooming around you.
”He was surrounding me, his lips still devouring mine, and nothing about us was logical.”
** Spoiler Alert **
Jace is managing “Norman Architecture” while his boss Mr. Norman is recovering from surgery.
His best friends sister, Sophie is about to come in for an Interview but he hasn’t seen her in 8 months and he is nervous. They’ve been arguing for 5 years because he ran away…. he couldn’t lose his best friend Tucker so he took the easy way out. He knew he hurt her…. but she was only 18…. she wouldn’t hold a grudge…. would she?
Sophie is a wreck… could she get through this interview without Jace seeing how effected she is by him? He is so handsome but she won’t give him the upper hand. She will be strong… she will show him who she is… she doesn’t need him anymore. He made his choice 5 years ago. To hell with him…. or so she thought…..
Jace is captivated by her beauty but he cannot be with her. She is his employee but she has him tied up in knots. He needs to get laid… he needs to forget what she feels like… get her out of his head…. yeah right! The heart wants… what the heart wants.
Sophie needs to forget him altogether but how can she do that when he looks at her the way he does. Does he finally see her as a woman? She knows about his reputation. Can she survive another devastation when he walks away again?
There is so much to say about this book but you need to read it. Tuns of story! A must read.
This is the second book i have read by Holly Renee and I love that this book has a duel P.O.V. like the first book in this series, i laughed uncontrollably. The amount of humor had me rolling off my bed in fits of laughter. The characters were well thought through. The story line was fantastic. Very well written with just the right amount of passion, love, lust and and devastation. A page Turner all the way.
Well done Holly on a fantastic book. I cannot wait to read your next book. 5 out of 5 hearts
I love the tension of off-limits, we can’t be together, brother’s friend , workplace romance type of stories. I also love the angsty moments that rip your heart open where everything good seems to unravel with a single phone call, unasked questions, and the misunderstandings that come with jumping to conclusions. Those are the reasons I love this story!
With that being said, I have a couple if things that I struggled with and held me back from a higher rating. This is the second story in the Rock Bottom Series and I almost felt a little lost. The character depth just wasn’t there for the main or the secondary characters and I was a bit disappointed. They almost felt like cardboard characters who are easily dismissed because they aren’t important enough to go into detail about. In Bottoms Up we got a full-on feel for every character, their background, their friendships, their looks, everything. You cared about each character. But with this story it just wasn’t there. It’s only a skim-the-surface type of descriptiveness for characters. If you are reading this as a standalone you’ll be more lost than I was, having read the first book.
The relationship between Jase and Sophie is iffy for me. Sophie will be the first to say it’s just sex and I agree with her. It is just about the sex. I struggled to really see a true connection between them other than the one time in his bed. But then she shuts down again. I love a good sex scene (and believe me, there are many!) but I love a true, deep character connection that I can feel even more.
It was difficult to rate this one because I loved it as a story but it could have been so much more.
Double Shot is Jase and Sophie’s story, if you remember from the last book, Sophie is Tucker’s sister and Jase is his bff. So when you put it together this book is a romance between brothers best friend … eeek! Can’t say no to that, and when you throw in the office romance, well sign me up.
Jase and Sophie’s attraction is undeniable, their chemistry and banter is gonna have you laughing and swooning at the same time. They knew it wasn’t a good idea for them to be together, but can you really stop the heart from what it wants? Seeing their love flourish was the sweetest thing.
This was a fast pace read, I enjoyed it, it gave me a happy feeling once I was done. I also loved how we got to see the other characters from Bottoms Up. Great read.
4 Stars
Moving back to live with her parents is something Sophie thought would happen after college, but with no job prospects she has no choice. When she accepts a job working for Jase, her brother’s best friend, things get even more complicated. When the high school feelings she had for him resurface will they fat e what’s between them or continue to deny them? Jase and Sophie are perfect together. I love how they’re chemistry is explosive. I can’t wait to read more from this author!
Sophie and Jase used to be friends. Best friends with her older brother, Sophie always tagged along. But, when she wanted more on her 18th birthday, Jase backed away thinking he was doing the right thing by his friend as well as by Sohpie and their relationship changed forever.
But now, Sophie needs a job and the architecture firm Jase works in is hiring. Both know its a bad idea to work together, specially since Jase will be her boss, but neither has a real reason to say no to the plan.
As things between them start to heat up, both Jase and Sophie struggle to remain professional. As lines are crossed, they’ll need to determine if they’ll give a relationship a try or keep things strictly sexual.
Double Shot included three of my favorite romance tropes all in one . . . enemies to lovers, second chance and office romance!
There is something about an office romance that is just spicy and smokin’ hot . . . and it’s the possibility of being caught by your peers at any moment. I loved how Holly Renee worked this trope in Double Shot. While both wanted to keep things sex only, they immediately fell back into how comfortable they were spending time together as friends as they were so many years ago. When their second chance goes wrong, though, they’ll have to decide if it’s worth it to try yet again.
Double Shot was crazy hot, funny and very sweet. And, let me just say that drunk Sophie is completely adorable! 4.5 stars!
